Daniel chapter 10
We present much of our study of Daniel 10 as speculation, simply because the events that Daniel saw in the visions are for the latter end.
Certainly
there is nothing
wrong with speculation for it promotes thought and consideration,
but
it is not given to us
His servants to try to outguess our Father,
but
rather to watch and wait
patiently because all things shall be fulfilled according to His
timeline,
not ours.
We have now come to the exciting 10th chapter of Daniel where Daniel is given a "revelation (Dan. 10:1)" concerning a war he saw taking place on the Tigris River in the first month of the year, which for those who understand our Father's solar calendar always begins on the Vernal or Spring Equinox* which falls on the 20th-21st of March.
This is really interesting because here in this 10th chapter we have the time of year, the location of the Tigris River, the event of war, and even the players involved.
For that reason, we will be presenting as speculation for your consideration that the events given in this 10th chapter have happened and been happening in real time, right before our very eyes, even as we have been studying this great Book of Daniel.
Our Father has been so good to us in that He has given us the outline and overview of His plan for the final hour of this earth age even as Daniel was given to understand the awesome image of Nebuchadnezzar concerning the New World Order in these last days and to understand that it is brought down by the stone cut out without hands, which is Yahshua Messiah, Jesus Christ.
He was further given a vision of the four beasts concerning the sum of the matter in the 7th chapter (vs. 1), which again is the New World Order culminating in its take over by the supernatural (the little horn, Satan, and his angelic host) and then he saw the "end of the matter" when the saints of the most high take the kingdom and possess it for ever and ever.
Now consider a point of logic.
If we are in fact in the final generation, and we are, because Christ gave us the key to determine when it began when He told us to learn the parable of the fig tree, then when we read the prophecies in Daniel and elsewhere in our Father's Word concerning the time of the end, we need to be looking at (watching) currentevents, for Jesus Christ told us that all these things shall become history in our generation, i.e. when He said, "this generation shall not pass away till all these things be fulfilled" (Mat. 24:34).
You
either believe the words
of Jesus Christ that they will come to pass, or you don't.
Therefore let us keep an open mind and consider what we read in this incredible 10th chapter of Daniel with what has and is taking place at this very time, for we have a perfect fit, a perfect overlay.
So let us ask for wisdom and guidance in both our teaching and understanding of His Word, and let's begin our study with Daniel chapter 10 verse 1.
Daniel 10:1
In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.
Also, the "revelation" Daniel received in verse one occurred in the third year of this king Cyrus and it is the last date given in the book of Daniel, which is a benchmark giving us the time and the location of the vision of the warfare Daniel saw.
To wit, Dr. Bullinger points out in the Companion Bible that "the time appointed was long" should read "but concerned a long warfare" or "concerned a warfare, a long way off".
That is because "time appointed" is the Hebrew word "tzaba" which is generally rendered "host" or "army" and is used here as a figure of speech, a Metonymy, for warfare.
And would you believe that we are going to find out in the fourth verse that this warfare took place on the Tigris River in the first month of the year!
Hey, that should perk up our eyes and ears in light of recent events, wouldn't you think?
There is no way that you cannot take a second look at this being that the timing, and the location, and the event of war, and even the players here in Daniel chapter 10 coincide with what has been happening on the Tigris River in the land of old Babylon recently.
Talk about an exciting time to live!
Now, we know that there is war in both heaven and earth and we know that Michael is soon going to cast out Satan and his regime from the gulf in heaven to this earth.
It should become apparent that this 10th chapter is given to us to remind us how close we are to that day when we see the type take place, and from our "understanding" of what is happening on a spiritual level, we might be strengthened to endure that which is yet to come to pass according the prophecies of Daniel, which is the entering in of the little horn, antichrist, the abomination who makes desolate!
So make sure what you see happening before you on the physical plain you are able to "see",also, on the higher spiritual level as well to know and understand how late we are in the season, as in how "nigh we are".
Let us also remember the symbology we were given back in chapter 8 telling us who the two horns of ram were that stood by the river Ulai, the pure living water.
Do you remember?
They were the kings of Media and Persia. represented today by America and Great Britain
We were also told that the king of Grecia was the he goat.
Well, we are going to see the leader of the kingdom of Persia as well as Grecia in this 10th chapter and there is no real basis giving us cause that we now should change the interpretation that was specifically given to us of who they represent.
Nevertheless, we have seen that Daniel was given a revelation concerning the 70 weeks and he understood the first 69 concerning the birth of Messiah.
It was that last week, those last 7 years, that he did not fully understand and now two years later from the events of chapter 9 he is being shown some specifics of what shall come to pass and befall his people in the latter days.
Also, 73 years have now passed since Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were deported and Daniel is 89 years old.
[2] In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks.
In other words, this mourning or lamenting was on behalf of his nation that he loved so much which we find documented in the last chapter.
Daniel 9:5 We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:
Remember he also studied and learned from the book of Jeremiah how long that captivity would last.
This captivity was a type of the spiritual captivity to which will befall our people in the last days.
[6] Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.
Now notice how dedicated Daniel was in his mourning for this period of three whole weeks:
Daniel 10:3 I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.
[4] And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel;
And as we just read, Daniel has been by the side of this great river Hiddekel, which is the Tigris river of today that delineates the border between Iraq and Iran, the location where from the years 1980 to 1988 a bloody eight year war that took place that cost the lives of over one million people.
We also had Desert Storm 1 in this same region.
That war was never really finished in the sense that it ended with a cease fire, not a surrender, and not with a regime change.
Well, that has all changed now as the two horns of the ram, Ephraim/Great Britain and Manasseh/USA, passed over the land and the Lord gave both the capital and the kingdom into their hands.
By the way, Baghdad sits right on the Tigris river in that land of old Babylon!
* Those with eyes to see will find it interesting that the desert storm was held back "12" years before hostilities starting up again several years ago for that is the number of governmental perfection used in Revelation chapter 7 where the four winds are held back until the sealing of 12,000 from each of the tribes of Israel is completed.
Passover is always on the fourteenth day of the first month and from then until the 21st day of the first month our people were to eat unleavened bread.
Exodus 12:18 "In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even."
"24" is also the number of the priesthood even as there were 24 courses of the priests and 24 elders.
Nevertheless, the time of year given in verse 4 brings us up to date to the time and season we are in right now.
[5] Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz:
[6] His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.
[7] And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves.
They knew something was up, that a great earth-shattering event had taken place, but they did not “see”, as in understand, the significance of what was happening and thus they become quite anxious, which is what "a great quaking fell upon them" means.
[8] Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength.
[9] Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground.
To that end, there is one thing that will surely pick you right up and put you back on your feet and into Father’s Word, and that is to be touched by the understanding of what is happening at this very hour and to see that which is written come to pass before your very eyes.
That helps to strengthen our faith in the confirmation of seeing and knowing that our Father’s Word is true and accurate down to the very minutest of details… and that which is written always has, is, and always shall come to pass exactly as it is written.
You can count on His Word which relative and right up to date for our day and you can trust in Him for He has all power in both heaven and earth and is in total control of His plan.
Furthermore, He is so good to us in that He has foretold us all things and reveals His plan to the minds of those who seek wisdom and knowledge.
[10] And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands.
But he shall stand upright when he hears and understands the words Gabriel, the man of God, is going to say to him.
What does that mean to us?
It means that we should hear his words too and stand upright also.
[11] And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.
Imagine how much comfort that much have brought to Daniel in hearing those words!
That should take the minds of those with eyes to see to Revelation 3:9-10 where it is written concerning the church of Philadelphia, the church of the brothers and sisters, the sons and daughters of these last days, that God loves so much because they love to study and keep His Word!
Be comforted also by those words.
Notice in verse 11 that Gabriel was "sent to Daniel" to give him understanding and as we will also see, to strengthen him.
So Daniel is now standing, but he's totally awe struck by what is happening and thus he stands trembling.
[12] Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God , thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.
Again, our Father loves His children very much and we learn from that which is written here in this 12th verse that He hears our prayers even before we are done praying them.
So be patient and wait on the Lord for He has great purpose in all that He does!
[13] But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
Remember also that the subject of the revealing to Daniel (vs. 1) concerns warfare which he saw while he was by the side of the Tigris River.
And then Michael came to help him or better yet to take over and relieve him.
If you are privileged to have a Companion Bible, Kregel Publishers, follow the marginal notes relative to what is happening here and you will find that the phrase “I remained there” means “I was superfluous there”, meaning that Gabriel was no longer needed.
So “he left him there”, i.e. Gabriel left Michael there with the kings of Persia.
The word "with" is "etsel" in Hebrew.
with, 'e?tsel ay'-tsel, Hebrew 681; From H680 (in the sense of joining); a side; (as a preposition) near: - at, (hard) by, (from) (beside), near (unto), toward, with. See also H1018.
Remember that the ram stood by the river Ulai, pure water, symbolizing the Word of God.
Question: Do you not think that if the ram's horn prayed for guidance and direction from Almighty God, that He would hear his prayers and give him help to strengthen him?
Look up Strong's definition of the Hebrew words #5975 & #5048 translated "withstood" in verse 13 and consider what Gabriel and Michael were doing "with" the kings of Persia.
withstood, `amad, aw-mad', Hebrew 5975; a primitive root; to stand, in various relations (literal and figurative, intransitive and transitive) :- abide (behind), appoint, arise, cease, confirm, continue, dwell, be employed, endure, establish, leave, make, ordain, be [over], place, (be) present (self), raise up, remain, repair, + serve, set (forth, over, -tle, up), (make to, make to be at a, with-) stand (by, fast, firm, still, up), (be at a) stay (up), tarry.neged neh'-ghed, Hebrew 5048; From H5046; a front, that is, part opposite; specifically a counterpart, or mate; usually (adverbially, especially with preposition) overagainst or before: - about, (over) against, X aloof, X far (off), X from, over, presence, X other side, sight, X to view. You can call it speculation if you like…
but I tell you this,
even if you consider this solely as a type and an overlay,
you should be touched and strengthened by it.We also find in Daniel 11:1 where Gabriel inserts a parenthetical statement while talking to Daniel, telling him that two years prior in the 1st year of Darius the Mede (Cyrus) that he "stood to confirm and to strengthen him", and now he has come to show Daniel the truth.
Daniel 11:1-2 (Also I in the first year of Darius the Mede, even I, stood to confirm and to strengthen him.)[2]And now will I shew thee the truth...Now Gabriel is going to do the same thing to Daniel, i.e. strengthen and confirm him by showing him the truth, i.e. giving him understanding of what is to befall his people. By the way, do you not also find it very interesting that from the beginning of the war in Iraq until the fall of Baghdad on the Tigris River when the "image" (statue) of Saddam Hussein was taken down, was exactly 21 days? This was same amount of time Daniel was "mourning" and the same amount time Gabriel was with the prince of Persia until Michael came!
Anyway you want to look at or speculate concerning the prince of Persia noted here in chapter 10 (for we formerly taught that he is a type of Satan because Gabriel is an angel who would not be fighting against a flesh man, though he is here confronting Daniel to strengthen him, isn't he?), let there be no doubt that the land of Babylon of today has been given into the hands of the latter day type of the kings of the Medes and Persians which we were given in chapter eight are the two horns of the ram, Ephraim and Manasseh, who today are Great Britain and the United States respectively.
Is this not truly amazing?
Again, call it speculation if you like… but I tell you this, even if you consider this solely as a type and an overlay, you should be touched and strengthened by it.
Let us be reminded once again that it is Michael fighting with his angels who casts Satan and his host from heaven to the earth. Rev. 12:7-9 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,Again, do you not think the ram has had some divine help in fighting against the earthly type of the king of Babylon? Don't forget my friend, this is one nation under God!
[8] And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. It is not even a close contest because our Father has ALL power in both heaven and earth. Remember the name Michael means "Who is like God?"
Remember also how President Bush quoted from Isaiah 40:26?
Have you read that chapter which is often called the second book of Isaiah because it introduces the Messiah?
Just read the verse prior to the one President Bush quoted and you should be able to make the "Michael" connection!
Isaiah 40:25-26 "To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One. [26] Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: He calleth them all by names by the greatness of His might, for that He is strong in power; not one faileth."
[9] And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.Yes, there will be war and fighting in heaven that brings about the entering in of the "little horn", the abomination of desolation, the spurious messiah, who is Satan who comes to earth posing as God. This event WILL OCCUR before the true Messiah, Jesus Christ, returns at the sound of the 7th Trump.
Read what the Apostle Paul said about this for you must understand the sequence of events if you truly want to understand the prophecies concerning the end of this age, and not be seduced by Satan and his angelic host.
2 Thes. 2:1-8
Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,The subject is our gathering together with Christ at His return. [2] That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.[3] Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;"That day" refers to our gathering back to Jesus Christ! It isn't going to happen today, guaranteed.
Why?
Because the son of perdition, the son who has sentenced to perish, must appear FIRST.
[4] Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.The "little horn" comes and exalts himself as God! (FIRST) He is the abomination who makes desolate, the one who appears in the temple, the holy place, and claims that he is Jesus Christ the Messiah and performs great signs and wonders to deceive the whole world.
[5] Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?Remember also how many times we've read of this already in the Book of Daniel? [6] And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.[7] For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
Verses 6 and 7 read a little awkward in the King James. Paul is talking about Satan, who will come first (before Jesus) when the one who is holding him back let's him go, and he shall sit in the temple claiming to be God.
Here is how verses 6 and 7 read from the Living Bible:
2 Thes. 2:6
And you know what is keeping him from being here already; for he can come only when his time is ready.Everything happens according to our Father's timeline, when He says so! This goes for the time when Michael stands up and casts Satan, the son of perdition, out of heaven to this earth (Rev. 12:7-9).
[7] As for the work this man of rebellion and hell will do when he comes, it is already going on, but he himself will not come until the one who is holding him back steps out of the way.The one who is holding back the son of perdition, the little horn, the dragon, etc., ad nauseum, is Michael! We just read it in Revelation chapter 12.
Here's verse 8 of 2 Thes 2.
[8] And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:The "stone" cut out without hands is the Lord Jesus Christ, our Rock, who will come and smash this beast! One more verse in Daniel. The angel is speaking to him.Remember?
The people in the latter days are...... guess who? You and me and all of our friends and neighbors and relatives. Daniel, beloved of God, was given this vision for us. The "prince of Persia" tried to prevent the angel from delivering it to Daniel because he didn't what you and me to know. Too bad, Satan. Our Father sees to it that his beloved are well informed and in the know! He takes care of His own.[14] Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days. What a time to live!
It is an amazing thing to see our Father's Word come to pass
exactly as it is written for it gives us great hope and peace of mind
and indeed strengthens our faith
(Not to mention it gives me Goosebumps!).Let us now return to Daniel 10 where Gabriel is speaking to Daniel.
Daniel 10:14
Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days. Our Father sees to it that his beloved are well informed and in the know! This angel of the Lord, after being with the prince of the kingdom of Persia for 21 days, has now come to make Daniel understand what shall befall his people in the latter days.
Since you and I are in those latter days, we need to pay close attention to what is being said.
Daniel 10:15
And when he had spoken such words unto me, I set my face toward the ground, and I became dumb.Daniel was utterly awed and speechless. You might say he was it total shock and awe!
Daniel 10:16
And, behold, one like the similitude of the sons of men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him that stood before me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have retained no strength.Truly coming to the realization of what is about to befall our people in these last days, i.e. the desolation to come upon our people by the abominable one and his angels, is a sad thing indeed. [17] For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me.Daniel was so taken back by all this that he was totally breathless. [18]Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me,Daniel receives divine intervention and is strengthened by God. The word strengthened means “strengthened for endurance”, to go the distance!
Remember the words of Jesus Christ in Matthew 24, "He who endures unto the end shall be saved."
You “see”, we are Christian soldiers in the army of God and our war in these last days is
not against flesh and blood,
but against principalities and powers and wicked spirits in high places. Our soldiers went to the Gulf region highly trained and skilled in the art of modern warfare.
See that you are highly trained and skilled in the art of spiritual warfare (Eph. 6)!
[19] And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.God gives His greatly beloved servants strength for endurance through the wisdom and knowledge of His Word, which is why Gabriel was sent to Daniel, i.e. to give him understanding of what shall befall his people in the latter days! He told Daniel to "Be Strong, yea, Be Strong", which is also what the apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians chapter 6.
Ephes. 6:10
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and (be strong) in the power of His might. He has given us His power, His truth and knowledge, i.e. His Word, which is the power to tread on (spiritual) serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. All we need to do is be strong in the Lord and use that power.
Luke 10:19
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.[Yes, he's talking about the serpant from the garden of Eden! and his followers] Gabriel now asks Daniel if he understands why he came to him. It was to strengthen him by his words of understanding.
Let's repeat what Daniel just said: "And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me (Dan. 10:19)." Daniel repeated twice that he had been strengthened!
Daniel 10:20
Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come.Hey, next up... the prince of Grecia shall come! Do you remember who the "he goat" was in chapter 8 that comes up close to the ram and turns on him with choler?
Gabriel just told Daniel that he is now going to go back and fight with the prince of Persia and when he does, lo, "the prince of Grecia shall come"!
with = #5973 ?im eem
From H6004; adverb or preposition, with (that is, in conjunction with), in varied applications; specifically equally with; often with prepositional prefix (and then usually unrepresented in English): - accompanying, against, and, as (X long as), before, beside, by (reason of), for all, from (among, between), in, like, more than, of, (un-) to, with (-al).Before he goes though, Gabriel is going to show Daniel that which is noted in the "scripture of truth". [21] But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.Remember it is written that when Michael "stands up" and casts out the real king of Babylon, Satan, from the gulf in heaven, there's going to be a time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation. Why?
Because the desolator himself will be present and doing his dastardly, wonderfully deceptive works and shall desolate the sanctuary and the host and cause the daily sacrifice to be taken away.
Let's jump ahead to Daniel 12:1 and document the magnitude of the event once again.
The good news, of course, is contained in the last two phrases of this verse.Daniel 12:1
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.If you are one of His beloved, then your name is already written in the book of life and you have nothing to worry about.
(Yes, God keeps books, Rev 20:12)
You KNOW that the king of Babylon, Satan, comes first, before Jesus Christ returns, and claims to be Him, the Messiah.
What a time to live!
It is an amazing thing to see our Father's Word come to pass exactly as it is written for it gives us great hope and peace of mind and indeed strengthens our faith (Not to mention it gives me Goosebumps!).
Would be to God that our brothers and sisters could come to know and understand what is happening and what is about to befall our people in the final hour when we "see the abomination of desolation standing in the holy place"!
Therefore, let us be about the King's business and continue our labor of love for our families and our nation and remember to put that gospel armor on and keep it on and "Be Strong, yea, Be Strong!"
We have a great spiritual battle yet ahead of us, but let us always remember that He will strengthen us... for we have the victory in Him!

It is important that YOU Read it all!
Jesus said, "the book of Daniel was where one could go read and gain understanding"
Jesus Christ told us in Matthew 24 and Mark 13 when He sat upon the Mount of Olives and gave His disciples the seven seals concerning the knowledge and the events that would transpire during the final generation of the fig tree, that the book of Daniel was where one could go read and gain understanding concerning the abomination of desolation, that abominable desolator (antichrist) who would come stand in the holy place claiming to be God.
The book of Daniel is the Apocalypse of the Old Testament
and a sister book to the Apocalypse of the New Testament,
the book of Revelation. To study the Bible is the noblest of all pursuits; to understand it, the highest of all goals.
We pray that with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, you accomplish both.
