"The Parable of the Tares"
Now get ready to test your eyes and ears because in this study we are going to learn the incredible "Parable of the Tares" in which the meaning of the Greek word for "seed" used so far in this 13th chapter is going to change from "speiro", meaning to sow or receive seed, to "sperma" which means... yep, that's right... "sperm"! But do not worry for after Christ has spoken the parable in public, His disciples will go to Him privately, seeking wisdom and understanding with their ears to hear, and He will explain the simple meaning of the parable. And yet as simple as His explanation is, would you believe that the knowledge He reveals to us is still hidden to this very day "like a fig" from the multitudes of Christianity!
In pamphlet #7000 we learned that Jesus Christ told His disciples that He spoke in parables for two reasons (Mat. 13:11):
We also learned that He spoke in parables because He loves all of God's children and wishes to protect those of free-will who do not yet have "the love of the truth". You see, if and when they are ready in this flesh age to truly "believe in Jesus Christ", they will become disciples of His Word and go to Him privately through that Word to ASK for wisdom and understanding... "and it shall be given unto them"! They will turn to Him and they will "seek and they shall find"! They shall "knock" and the door to life shall be opened unto them and they shall receive the key of David which unlocks the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven. Jesus Christ is that door and the One who holds the key (John 10:9, Rev. 3:7) "I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.) In other words, they will become doers of the Word and not hearers only (Rom. 2;13, James 1:22 ) and they will obey His commands because they love Him (John 14:15 "If ye love me, keep my commandments.") and His Word shall become more precious to them than anything this earth age has to offer.(1) To simplify and make easy to understand the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven to His disciples, those who discipline themselves in His Word.(2) To hide the mysteries of the kingdom to those who do not seek Him and therefore do not have eyes to see nor ears to hear.
Until
they are truly "converted" and turn and repent from forsaking Him,
from
forsaking His Word and not coming to Him privately,
they
shall remain unable to understand the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven.
Here are Christ's own words:
Mark 4:12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.
[13] And He said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?
You
see, the Parable of the Sower has to do with "seeds"
and
"planting" and "fruit",
etc.,
all of which we shall be discussing in our study of the Parable of the
Fig Tree
which
actually begins in the "Fig Grove",
in
the Garden of God called Eden,
where
the first "sowings" took place
and
the "cover-up" by the fig leaves themselves
have
kept hidden what really happened in that grove.
Do you know?
Let
us therefore go to the parable of the sowing in the beginning
and
learn the truth from the words of Jesus Christ Himself.
You
see, not all seeds were planted by God.
God
planted only good seeds, but some bad seed was also planted!
So if you are ready and have your eyes open and your ears to hear on and in place, then we are all set to learn one of the great mysteries of the "kingdom of heaven" which begins with a parable spoken from the mouth of the Lord. Hear ye! Hear ye!
Matthew 13:24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:
[25] But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
We need to know and understand
the horticulture of "tares"
which is zizanion (dziz-an'-ee-on)
in Greek (#2215) and means "darnel" or false grain :- tares.
Here is Dr. Smith's explanation:
Tares: A noxious plant, of the grass family, supposed to mean the darnel. It grows among the wheat everywhere in Palestine, and bears a great resemblance to it while growing - so closely that, before they head out, the two plants can hardly be distinguished. The grains are found, 2 or 3 together, in 12 small husks, scattered on a rather long head. The Arabs do not separate the darnel from the wheat, unless by means of a fan or sieve, after threshing (Mat. 13:25-30). If left to mingle with the bread, it occasions dizziness, and often acts as an emetic. ("Smith's Bible Dictionary", A. J. Holman Company, pg. 301.)[26] But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.
The bearded darnel (Lolium temulentum) is a poisonous grass, almost indistinguishable from wheat while the two are only in blade, but which can be separated without difficulty when they come into ear (cp. mat. 13:29, 20). ("Davis Bible Dictionary", Baker Book House, pg. 759.)
This
is important to our understanding of the parable of the fig tree [Pamphlet
#1031],
which
Christ told us we must learn in Mark 13:28,
very important!

[27] So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?
You could call them anti-wheats!
[28] He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?
Should we go round those suckers up?
[29] But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.
[30] Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.
We are about to learn the mystery.
You
see, what we have just read from Mat. 13:24-30 is an actual parable,
which
is a truth expressed in similitude using symbols
with
characteristics analogous to something else.
Next, notice again the emphasis
on the fact
that Jesus Christ spoke
unto the multitudes in parables.
In fact, He didn't speak anything to them that was not in parable form.
This is a quote and a fulfillment of Ps. 78:2:Matthew 13:34 All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them:[35] That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.
Psalm 78:2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
Do you understand that the multitudes do not understand it?
They cannot tell the difference between tares and wheat in the field!
Now notice what happened next.
Jesus
sent everyone away and went into the house,
but
those eager-to-know-His-Word disciples followed Him
and
ASKED HIM to "explain the parable of the tares of the field"!
[36] Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.
Therefore, what you are about to read is NOT A PARABLE!
It
is the simple EXPLANATION of the parable by Jesus Christ
to
His disciples who want to KNOW the parable of the tares.
[37] He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
It was God Himself who placed the "good seed" in the field.
What is the field?
[38] The field is the world;
What or who are the "good seed"?
[38 cont.] ... the good seed are the children of the kingdom;
You MUST understand that Christ is giving an explanation here of the parable.
It is not a continuation of the parable nor is it a parable of the parable.
The
"good seed" is simply symbolic terminology for His children
which
should not be a complicated thing to understand at all.
He formed Adam and Eve and placed them in the garden!
It
is that simple and any attempt to "spiritualize" it into something
other than what Christ just said
is to change His explanation.
In other words "children" means "children" as in offspring.
[38 cont.] ... but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
This is where we separate
the men from the boys
or you might say the
tares from the wheat.
It
seems that many are willing to accept that the "good seed"
are
the children of the kingdom
but
that the "tares", the "bad seed",
are
not really the children "of" the wicked one, the devil himself.
Let
us see and read from Christ's own words who
it was that "sowed his wild oats"
and
produced these tares, which we now know are
also children (real people).
Matthew 13:39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil;
Is
Jesus Christ saying that Satan actually has progeny "of" his own,
as
in his own offspring?
Yes,that is EXACTLY what He is saying.
Always remember,
the enemy that sowed them is the devil, Satan, this has been hidden as in covered with figs leaves from the beginning,
and
those who still "sleep" (vs. 25) will continue to look at the field and
see no tares.
It is time to wake up, Christian!
The hour is late and harvest time is nigh indeed!
What is harvest time anyway?
[38 cont.] ... the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
They shall be "burned in the fire" at the end of this world age.
[40] As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.[41] The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
[42] And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
[43] Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Well
get them on because we are about to
learn
the minute details of when, where, and how the devil "sowed the tares"
in the field.
It
is the foundation and the beginning of wisdom
in learning the Parable
of the Fig Tree
<<Live Link
and therefore we are going
to cast out the traditions of men
which have for so long obscured
the truth of God's Word
and
we are going to learn what REALLY happened in the fig grove in the midst
of the Garden of God!
Keep in mind that what you
are about to read and hear
may be so completely different
than this illustrated "tradition"
handed down by the churches
for many generations that it might "set you on your heels".
One of Satan's most effective and subtle tools in covering
up the truth of God's Word
is to take that which is expressed figuratively
and cause people to take it literally, and vice versa.
And since it is of such extreme
importance to understand what happened in the beginning of any book
in order to place that which follows
in proper context,
you can be certain that Satan has
worked real hard on the first few chapters of God's Word
to make sure it is misunderstood
thereby throwing people off track,
by covering up his own tracks
from the very start.
In other words (and never forget this):
If you do not know what really happened in the first few chapters of Genesis
and especially in garden of Eden
you will never truly understand the rest of God's Word.
That is why we have come to the
Book of Genesis in order that we might understand the sowing of the "seeds",
both the good and the bad,
so that we might then be able to
understand the Parable of the Fig Tree
for it requires this understanding
as background.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words", so let us "see" a visual of the typical "fairy tale" Satan would have the "little children" believe happened in the garden:
The narrative at the bottom of the picture reads:
"Adam and Eve were told by God not to eat apples from a certain tree in the garden. An evil serpent tempted Eve and she and Adam both ate the forbidden fruit. Because they disobeyed God, they were forced to leave the Garden of Eden."
It is an image created by "that
old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan,
which deceiveth the whole world
(Rev. 12:9)" to keep you in darkness, from learning the truth.
We intend to shed the "light" on this "snake" and expose him as the liar and fraud that he is.
Keep in mind that what you
are about to read and hear may be so completely different than this illustrated
"tradition"
handed down by the churches
for many generations that it might "set you on your heels",
which is a figure of speech
meaning it might astound you.
So do not say I didn't warn you!
Of course, if you are willing to
believe fairy tales like the one in this picture
then perhaps you can believe some
reality and truth which may appear stranger than fiction.
Go for it!
First of all, would it surprise you to know that the word "apple" is not even mentioned anywhere in the Book of Genesis?
Check it out for yourself.
You see, Satan wants you to
believe that the "forbidden fruit"
Adam and Eve partook of was
literal fruit just like an apple.
Figures of speech are so overlooked in God's Word
that I'm sure if we were to read in the New Testament
that the apostle Paul "got into hot water"
that there would be churches teaching that in order to
be in good standing
among their members you would have to "get into hot water"
yourself.
Of course there would be division and disagreement among
the denominations and "scholars"
as to what temperature actually constitutes "hot" as
opposed to just "warm"
and how much hot water a person should actually get into,
i.e. should one step into hot water just up to his knees
or waist or should one become totally immersed in hot water.
And if you looked up the word "water" in any Greek dictionary it would certainly mean H2O, like rain.
Yet the phrase he "got into hot water" has absolutely nothing to do with water!
It is a figure of speech which means he "got into trouble"!
Maybe this hot water scenario sounded a bit ridiculous
to you
but you should just see some of the ludicrous things
churches teach
and have their people do because of their ignorance of
His Word.
Do you not think Satan would be laughing his fool head
off at watching Christians getting into pools of "hot water"?
He is laughing his fool head
off at Christians who think Eve was deceived by a snake
who talked her into eating
an apple from a fruit tree!
Good grief Charlie Brown!
You see, the word "serpent" is simply
one of the symbolic names of Satan
that describes him according to
his low-life character.
He is also called the dragon, the
little horn, the vile person, the son of perdition, the antichrist,
the Devil, Satan, Lucifer, the
morning star (Isa. 14), etc.
Spiritually speaking, he is a "snake" alright!
He is a sneaky, no-good, low-down, yellow-bellied, lying, conniving "serpent"!
Rev. 20:2 "And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years."
But you know what?
He is also the most beautiful and charismatic individual you will ever encounter, a charming one indeed!
You can read all about this highly intelligent glistening one, "perfect in beauty", in the 28th chapter of Ezekiel.
He does not look like this:
Ok, then what about the fruit and the trees?
They are also symbolic.
Trees are used throughout the scriptures, from Genesis to Revelation, to symbolize people.
God's elect are called "Cedars of
Lebanon" because the roots of the cedar go as deep as the tree is tall
and therefore those trees cannot
be easily shaken or uprooted.
Jesus Christ is symbolized by the "Tree of Life" and the Vine, the branches of which bring forth good fruit.
And as we shall see, Satan is symbolized
by the "Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil"
and he and his branches bring forth
corrupt and evil fruit which we are NOT to EAT.
And so depending on what kind of "tree" you are determines what kind of fruit you produce.
Here are words of Jesus Christ:
Luke 6:43
For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
However, people do!
[44] For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
Where should you get your
fruit?
Here is what your Father says:
Hosea 14:8
Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green fir tree. From me is thy fruit found.
God even likens Himself to a tree, an evergreen fir symbolic of eternal life!
You are to get your fruit from Him and from His Word and from NO ONE ELSE, no other tree!
[9] Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein.
Are you wise, or do you believe in fairy tales about snakes and apples?
Let's go to Genesis and see what happened in the garden.
Genesis 3:1
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
So the PICTURE you now need to
place in your mind is one of a very smart, good looking,
handsome young man who is very,
very charming and likeable and intelligent and well spoken.
Got it?
That old serpent has perpetuated a lie, a tradition, about the "snake" and the "apple" long enough.
Do not let him have the victory any more!
Again,
it is his diabolical plan to deceive a Biblically ignorant people,
"because
it ministers to the acceptance of his lie, the hiding of God's truth,
the
jeers of the infidel, the opposition of the critics, and the stumbling
of the weak in faith."
(Companion Bible, appendix 19,
last paragraph.)
By the way, the apostle Paul also refers to this "serpent" in the garden in 2 Cor. 11:3:
2 Cor. 11:3
But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
serpent = –öéò ophis of'-is Strong's #3789
Probably from G3700 (through the idea of sharpness of vision); a snake, figuratively (as a type of sly cunning) an artful malicious person, especially Satan:—serpent.
Let's repeat Gen. 3:1.
Genesis 3:1
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
God told Adam that he could freely eat of every tree of the Garden.
See what a subtle twist this is, from a positive to a doubtful questionable negative?
Genesis 2:16
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
[17] But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Ezekiel 31:3
Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches, and with a shadowing shroud, and of an high stature; and his top was among the thick boughs.
[4] The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers running round about his plants, and sent out her little rivers unto all the trees of the field.
They made this tree great!
[5] Therefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long because of the multitude of waters, when he shot forth.
[6] All the fowls of heaven made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches did all the beasts of the field bring forth their young, and under his shadow dwelt all great nations.
Of course not!
And the fowls of heaven are those "dirty birds" which we will learn more about in our study of the fig tree parable.
[7] Thus was he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: for his root was by great waters.
In Ezek. 28 you will find
that Satan, called the king of Tyre,
wore those same stones on
his breastplate in the first earth age (before his rebellion)
and walked up and down in
the midst of them (called the stones of fire.
God is a consuming fire (Heb. 12:29).
[8] The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him: the fir trees were not like his boughs, and the chesnut trees were not like his branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like unto him in his beauty.
Did you know that he drew a third
of God's children away from Him
and caused them to follow and participate
in his liberal ways!
(Rev. 12:4). Many, many people just love this guy!
Yes, the Devil, the serpent!
[9] I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him.
Remember they have no brains and no knowledge of good and evil.
Satan WAS the tree in the midst
of the garden of Eden,
both in the first earth age as
shown here, and in this earth age in Gen. 3!
It was Satan, that old serpent the devil, who tempted Eve and beguiled her.
Satan also tempted Jesus Christ
in the wilderness with God's Word
by misquoting and twisting the
scriptures to read and mean the "letter" of what is written,
instead of the "truth" of what
is written.
Most Christians do not even know that Satan misquoted the Word of God when he tempted Jesus Christ.
Do you?
Let us go back to the garden.
Genesis 3:2
And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
[3] But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
God did not say "LEST ye die!"
There is no "lest" or "perhaps" about it!
It is not "questionable" at all!
God said "thou
shalt surely die!"
She also added "neither shall ye
touch it"!
However, she will end up "touching" this tree who will literally "touch" her as in wholly seduce her.
Yes, she will lose her "virginity" to the serpent, to this handsome, smart young man!
Have you ever looked up the word "touch" in a Hebrew dictionary?
touch = òâ‡ðˆnaòga€naw-gah' Strong's #5060
A primitive root; properly to touch, that is, laythehandupon (for any purpose; euphemistically,to liewith a woman); by implication to reach (figuratively to arrive, acquire); violently, to strike (punish, defeat, destroy, etc.):—beat, (X be able to) bring (down), cast, come (nigh), draw near (nigh), get up, happen, join, near, plague, reach (up), smite, strike, touch.
2 Cor. 11:2
For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
Do not be like Eve who was "beguiled" by the handsome young intellectual preacher in the midst of the garden!
Let us continue with the discussion in Genesis chapter 3:[3] But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.beguiled = dîáðáôÜùexapataoex-ap-at-ah'-o Strong's #1818
From G1537 and G538; to seducewholly:—beguile, deceive.
Genesis 3:4
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
This is the first of many, many lies, for he is the father of lies (John 8:44).
[5] For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
In other words they will become enlightened through the expansion of their minds!
You see, what Satan is saying is that you do not need God's Word to be your standard for right and wrong.
No, you can be liberated, as in a "liberal", and you can determine for yourself what is right and wrong!
Yeah, that only makes good sense, doesn't it?
I mean, who is to say what is really right or wrong?
Furthermore, the argument goes, what right do you have to impose your beliefs on someone else?
Go by what "feels good", baby!
Live for today!
(Baby Boomers know the song, "Sha la, la, la, la, la, live for today!")
[6] And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise,
It looks real good!
"Come on Eve, think about it!
What harm can come to you?
God is not going to "kill you" just for having a little fun!"
Now Think:
When is the last time you saw an apple tree and said to yourself, "You
know self,
if
I eat the fruit from this tree it will instantly make me wiser."
I'll bet these are some kind of smart apples".
Get apples and grapes out of your mind.
It is the "leaven", the doctrine of Satan, his bad fruit, that Eve listened to.
In other words, she "ate up" Satan's
philosophical reasonings and "interpretations" of God's Word
as he began to appeal to her ego
and "desire".
It all started to make sense to her and she told Adam all the things she was learning and he began to eat it up also.
And before long, they were had!
... she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
[7] And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
But why in the world do they now "know they're naked"?
You will find it is because
of the SHAME they have brought upon themselves,
for disobeying God,
yes, but in a much more perverted
way than biting bad apples.
"And they sewed FIG LEAVES together, and made themselves aprons."
Do
you suppose these were itty bitty little aprons that they sewed together
to cover their mouths
because
they just ate a bad apple?
How stupid the traditions of men!
Learn to think for yourself and stick to God's Word, not the traditions of men.
[8] And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
Adam and Eve hear their Father walking in the garden in the "ruach" (cool)!
And now that they know good and evil, they know they've done evil!
So they did what most people do, they HID THEMSELVES!
Today we would call it "FigGate".
You can read their excuses for disobeying God in verses 9 through 13 on your own.
Let us now see what judgment was made by our Father:
Genesis 3:14
And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
In English we might say you will always be "lower than a snake's belly" and "eat dust" all your life!
Remember, the rotten snake seduced mother Eve right there in the fig grove!
And you know what?
She conceived!
Genesis 3:14
And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
[15] And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
The two seeds of the Parable of the Tares in Mat. 13!
REMEMBER?
God is NOT talking about "apple seeds" here!
He is talking about progeny, children, the same thing Christ was talking about in Mat. 13!
Matthew 13:38
The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
Eve
is about to give birth and one of those children (Cain) will be the offspring
of the Devil (Satan). The other (Abel) is the offspring of Adam.
[39] The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
How?
He seduced Eve and she participated in the "conception" of that bad seed!
Now notice the sentence of "sorrow" (travail) related to child birth that Eve receives because of what she has done.
Genesis 3:16
Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
Are you still with us or have you decided to stick with "snakes and apples"?
Adam was not Cain's father!
