II Kings 19:4 "It may be the Lord thy God will hear all the words of Rab-shakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God; and will reprove the words which the Lord thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that are left.' "

The city of Jerusalem did not have a chance of survival against Nebuchadnezzar and his military hosts. They came and camped around Jerusalem, putting it to a siege. Before this time, Zedekiah forgot that he was placed into the office of King because of his allegiance to Nebuchadnezzar, then once in office, it all went to his head and he thought he could take the nation for himself.

II Kings 25:2 "And the city was besieged unto the eleventh year of king Zedekiah."

King Nebuchadnezzar had the patience for over a year to starve the city of Jerusalem to the point of surrender. It is pretty easy to do when you live in a walled city.

II Kings 25:3 "And on the ninth day of the fourth month the famine prevailed in the city, and there was no bread for the People of the land."

The famine was working and the bread had run out.

This of course is a type of what shall happen in the time of the end, for Amos tells us in Amos 8:11 of that famine of the end times.

II Kings 25:4 "And the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled by night by the way of the gate between two walls, which is by the king's garden: (now the Chaldees were against the city round about:) and the king went the way toward the plain."

Therefore, they now believe that when what remained of two tribes of "The House of Judah", were taken away by Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, they comprised the entire Israelite peoples, when those peoples were carried away by Assyria 135 years earlier. 

And after the collapse of Assyria began their migration through the Dariel pass of the Caucasas mountains into the steppes of south Russia and migrated to lands far to the north and scattered under the identity of many other names.

Now, most of those Bible commentaries call, all the people they believe are, Israelites Jews and have completely ignored the fact that the rest of us, who have become the Christian nations in both Europe and the Americas are indeed Israelites.

Read Rev. 2:9 and 3:9 very carefully, for Christ is refering to us 21st century Christians.

Revelation 2:9  I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

Revelation 3:9  Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

Lets review what happened:

2 Kings 17:6  In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
2 Kings 18:9  ¶And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it. 10  And at the end of three years they took it: even in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that is the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken. 11  And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel unto Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes:

Now nine years later:

NOT ONLY isn't THE CARRYING AWAY OF ALL THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL (The Northern Kingdom) MENTIONED in most Bible commentaries 2 KINGS 17;6,9-11 BUT THEY ALSO NEVER TOLD US THAT THE ASSYRIANS ALSO 9 years later CARRIED AWAY MOST THE HOUSE OF JUDAH (The Southern Kingdom) 2 KINGS 18;13.  THE ONLY PART OF JUDAH LEFT FOR Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon Was JERUSALEM PROPER. ALL THE REST of "THE HOUSE OF JUDAH" WERE ALREADY GONE. THE SAME FATE AS "THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL".

The northern kingdom, "House of Israel", along with many from the southern kingdom, "House of Judah" were taken by Assyria, well over eight hundred thousand Israelite men  2 Samuel 24:1 - 9 and their families from ten different tribes (2 Kings 17, 18, and 19.)  In 2 Kings 19:32-34 we learn that only Jerusalem was spared.

II Kings 19:32 "Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the king of Assyria, `He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it."

II Kings 19:33 "By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city,' saith the Lord."

II Kings 19:34 " `For I will defend this city, to save it, for Mine own sake, and for My servant David's sake.' "

David was promised that through his seed would come the Messiah. It is for the sake of the coming Messiah that God would defend Jerusalem. The Messiah is where our salvation comes from, through repentance in Jesus name.

II Kings 19:35 "And it came to pass that night, that the Angel of the Lord went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred four score and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses."

This is the death angel of our Heavenly Father that went out and slayed one hundred and eighty five thousand Assyrians that night.This is the same angel that come over Egypt the night before Moses and the Israelites were to leave Egypt. God was in control, and He did exactly what He said He would do.

(All total approximately 1,300,000 men plus their wives and children were carried away)

Hosea 2:6 says, "...I will hedge up they way with thorns, and make a wall that she shall not find her paths." In this wasn't God was making it clear that the Israelites were not to return to Palestine?

Only now, in v.13 we learn that he also took the fenced cities of Judah. If we keep reading in 2 Kings 19:4
2 Kings 19:4  It may be the LORD thy God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God; and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that are left

we learn that there was only a remnant of "The House of Judah" were left.. And in 2 Kings 19:30
2 Kings 19:30  And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall yet again take root downward, and bear fruit upward. 31  For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.

We find that it was only with the Lord's help that even the remnant was able to escape. We haven't even gotten to the siege of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon yet to find out what happened to this remnant who escaped the Assyrians.  That don't happen until 586BC, 135 years after the House of Israel and the bulk of the House of Judah were captured and removed from the land by the Assyrians. We read in the last chapter, chapter 35, that God was very much against Mount Seir, the land of Jacob's brother Esau, because of Esau's perpetual hatred (vs. 35:5) for his brother and for his boasting and supporting the desolation and scattering of both the house of Israel and the house of Judah. Therefore, there is a judgment of Edom, even of all nations, coming "in that day" when Jesus Christ returns, when they "shall know that He is the LORD".

Even so, today we can actually SEE and understand how that judgment will be. For we have already read in our previous study regarding the very "land" itself of Mount Seir, which is symbolic of Edom, i.e. Esau's land, that is was to become desolate and unproductive. Is there any doubt that the land of the Edom, that "red" nation, is "far from the fatness of the earth", exactly as it was foretold in Gen. 27:39 (see note in Companion Bible regarding this verse)? Where are their rolling fields after fields of amber waves of grain? They have few so they come to their brother Jacob to obtain their wheat.

Now in this 36th chapter of Ezekiel we are going to read about the restoration of God's people (verses 16-29) and the restoration of the land of Israel which was made desolate (verses 1-15). Of course the complete fulfillment of this will occur at the coming of our Lord, i.e. during the Millennium.

You see, the true house of Israel has a covenant relationship with Almighty God, who promised to restore the land to her, following her chastisement. Israel once possessed their own land, which God gave to them, but they were scattered abroad and dispersed among the heathen (nations), the reason for which we will see in verses 17-21. However, God promised to gather them and give them their own land: Ezekiel 36:24 "For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land."

The people we call Jews today were in this group when 135 years later in 586BC, Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon carried more than one half million Israelite men 2 Samuel 24:1 - 9 and their families from the other two tribes, of Benjamin and Judah (the Jews), away to Babylon. 2 Kings 25:1 - 21 These were the only remaining Israelites in the Promised Land.

70 years after Judah's captivity the temple was rebuilt and 42,360 Nehemiah 7:66 - 67 from the tribes of Judah and Benjamin returned again "unto Jerusalem and Judah, every one unto his city". Ezra 8:1 - 20 & Nehemiah 7:5 - 45   Note: Nehemiah 7:46 - 65 These were not Israelites or even of the tribe of Judah, but we include them as and call them Jews today.

What happened to the rest of the one and one half million Israelites and their families? James 1:1 - See Acts 26:7 This promise was made to the twelve tribes of Israelites who were scattered abroad and are the Christian nations of today.  It was not made to the Jews. There is a difference as this verse proves. Read #1062 Acts 26:6-7

Ezekiel 36:17
Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own way and by their doings: their way was before me as the uncleanness of a removed woman.

[18] Wherefore I poured my fury upon them for the blood that they had shed upon the land, and for their idols wherewith they had polluted it:

[19] And I scattered them among the heathen, and they were dispersed through the countries: according to their way and according to their doings I judged them.

[20] And when they entered unto the heathen, whither they went, they profaned my holy name, when they said to them, These are the people of the LORD, and are gone forth out of his land.

Those who have eyes to see and ears to hear know that the desolation and captivity of the house of Israel by Assyria and that of Judah by the king of Babylon shows us in type the spiritual captivity and desolation of the final generation when the king of Babylon, Satan, the false-christ, comes against our people. So too does the desolation of the heathen nations and gathering and the restoration of the house of Israel into their lands in which they dwell today, give us a picture of that restoration which will occur at His coming, at that day! What a beautiful time the children of God have to look forward to in the Millennium.

Ezekiel 36:1
Also, thou son of man, prophesy unto the mountains of Israel, and say, Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD:

[2] Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the enemy hath said against you, Aha, even the ancient high places are ours in possession:

The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren.

Ezekiel 36:3
Therefore prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because they have made you desolate, and swallowed you up on every side, that ye might be a possession unto the residue of the heathen, and ye are taken up in the lips of talkers, and are an infamy of the people:

[4] Therefore, ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus saith the Lord GOD to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys, to the desolate wastes, and to the cities that are forsaken, which became a prey and derision to the residue of the heathen that are round about;

Ezekiel 36:5
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the heathen, and against all Idumea, which have appointed my land into their possession with the joy of all their heart, with despiteful minds, to cast it out for a prey.

Deut. 4:24
For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

Hebrews 12:29
For our God is a consuming fire.

Here is what "thus saith the Lord GOD" concerning Israel's land. "Ezekiel, tell them like it is!"

Ezekiel 36:6
Prophesy therefore concerning the land of Israel, and say unto the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I have spoken in my jealousy and in my fury, because ye have borne the shame of the heathen:

[7]Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I have lifted up mine hand, Surely the heathen that are about you, they shall bear their shame.

Ezekiel 36:8
But ye, O mountains of Israel, ye shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to my people of Israel; for they are at hand to come.

[9] For, behold, I am for you, and I will turn unto you, and ye shall be tilled and sown:

[10] And I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, even all of it: and the cities shall be inhabited, and the wastes shall be builded:

Genesis 22:17
That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

Ezekiel 36:11
And I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they shall increase and bring fruit: and I will settle you after your old estates, and will do better unto you than at your beginnings: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

[12] Yea, I will cause men to walk upon you, even my people Israel; and they shall possess thee, and thou shalt be their inheritance, and thou shalt no more henceforth bereave them of men.

shakol, shaw-kole', Hebrew 7921; a primitive root; properly to miscarry, i.e. suffer abortion; by analogy to bereave (literal or figurative) :- bereave (of children), barren, cast calf (fruit, young), be (make) childless, deprive, destroy, × expect, lose children, miscarry, rob of children, spoil.

"... and you will no longer be a place for burning their children on idol altars." (LB)

Ezekiel 36:13
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because they say unto you, Thou land devourest up men, and hast bereaved thy nations;

[14] Therefore thou shalt devour men no more, neither bereave thy nations any more, saith the Lord GOD.

Ezekiel 36:15
Neither will I cause men to hear in thee the shame of the heathen any more, neither shalt thou bear the reproach of the people any more, neither shalt thou cause thy nations to fall any more, saith the Lord GOD.

Next we will read of that restoration of His people. It is His promise, surely!

The name EZEK-I-EL* in Hebrew means "EL [God] I [is] EZEK [strong]" or even "God is my strength" and His method of "strengthening" is quite clear to anyone who reads this book with even just a little understanding. It is His Word that gives us strength.

* Note to new students: The Hebrew language is not read from left to right like English but rather it is read from the right to the left? Also, names of people, places, and things have great significance in the scriptures and they often give us a deeper understanding of that which is written when we take the time to learn their meanings.

We continue now with the chapters in Ezekiel concerning the restoration of Israel. Remember that in the first 15 verses of chapter 36, we learned about the restoration of Israel basically as it pertained to the land itself. In contrast, this next section especially from verses 16 to 29 is addressed to the people. It explains why the restoration must take place, which is because the plan of God is lovingly designed so that ALL of God's children of all races and creeds can come to know and love Him.

Ezekiel 36:16
Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

[17] Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own way and by their doings: their way was before me as the uncleanness of a removed woman.

[18] Wherefore I poured my fury upon them for the blood that they had shed upon the land, and for their idols wherewith they had polluted it:

Malachi 3:6 and Hebrews 13:8 declare that the Lord changes not, that He is the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Do you think therefore that He has since changed His mind concerning these two transgressions, these abominations? He has not. That is why it is so important for us Christians to get rid of the pollution, the traditions of men, like the rituals and practices associated with Ishtar (Easter), etc., that have been handed down to us from our fathers which "pollute the land".  It still makes our Father furious.

Remember chapter 20 when we discussed the idolatrous "pollution" of our people, even the pollution of His holy sabbaths such as the high day of Christianity, the Passover. He doesn't like us substituting pagan rituals "after the manner of our fathers" instead of adhering to His word? The Lord GOD wants to know which it will be for you, the stinky polluted water that the false shepherds of chapter 34 teach from the pulpits of our land, or the pure living water which flows from His Word?

Ezekiel 20:30
Wherefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye polluted after the manner of your fathers? and commit ye whoredom after their abominations?

So God scattered and dispersed His people through the countries according to their choice! You see, God is both pro-choice (free will) and pro-life (His ways).

Ezekiel 36:19
And I scattered them among the heathen, and they were dispersed through the countries: according to their way and according to their doings I judged them.

[20] And when they entered unto the heathen, whither they went, they profaned my holy name, when they said to them, These are the people of the LORD, and are gone forth out of his land.

So the heathen, the "gowy" in Hebrew, sneered and said concerning Israel's idolatrous practices and their scattering , "Look at the children of God! Just look how they act and look how their weak God treats them!"

Our Father wants all of His children, of which all people of all races are His children for He created them all, to "know that He is the LORD"! So this is not good that Israel gave cause to the heathen to remain unbelievers! It greatly concerned our Father because He loves all of His children, and so it is, and was from the beginning, in His plan to sanctify His name among the heathen and to restore Israel for the sake of His name, so that they would all know that He is LORD.

Ezekiel 36:21
But I had pity for mine holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the heathen, whither they went.

Ezekiel 20:9
But I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, among whom they were, in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.

So with this information in mind, Ezekiel is now instructed to speak to his people.

Ezekiel 36:22
Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name's sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went.

[23] And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.

Ezekiel 36:24 For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.

Ezekiel 36:25
Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.

But even at this time we have the Word of God with us which will cleanse us from "all idols" and idolatrous ways. Those with eyes to see and ears to hear know that His Word is right now being "sprinkled" like rain upon this latter generation. It is the "latter rain" (Deut. 11:14, James 5:7) which falls right before the harvest.

[26] A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

Ezekiel 36:26
"I will give you a new nature, and I will put a new spirit in you, I will take away your hard nature and give you a nature that can be touched;" (Moffat)

Ezekiel 36:27
And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Ezekiel 36:28
And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.

Jeremiah 31:1
At the same time, saith the LORD, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.

[6] For there shall be a day, that the watchmen upon the mount Ephraim shall cry, Arise ye, and let us go up to Zion unto the LORD our God.

[8] Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the coasts of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company shall return thither.

That is why they shall come weeping and with supplications (next verse) for the shame in which they stumbled. But they shall stumble no more in Christ.

[9] They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.

[10] Hear the word of the LORD, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock.

Ezekiel 36:29
I will also save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call for the corn, and will increase it, and lay no famine upon you.

Amos 8:11
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

Ezekiel 36:30
And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye shall receive no more reproach of famine among the heathen.

[31] Then shall ye remember your own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations.

As it is written in Rev. 6:6-17, when Christ returns many will wish the mountains to fall upon them rather than face the Lord Jesus Christ because of their abominations!

[32] Not for your sakes do I this, saith the Lord GOD, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Israel.

Ezekiel 36:33
Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day that I shall have cleansed you from all your iniquities I will also cause you to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be builded.

[34] And the desolate land shall be tilled, whereas it lay desolate in the sight of all that passed by.

[35] And they shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are become fenced, and are inhabited.

Ezekiel 36:36
Then the heathen that are left round about you shall know that I the LORD build the ruined places, and plant that that was desolate: I the LORD have spoken it, and I will do it.

[37] Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will yet for this be enquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them; I will increase them with men like a flock.

Ezekiel 20:3
Son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye come to enquire of me? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be enquired of by you.

Ezekiel 20:31
For when ye offer your gifts, when ye make your sons to pass through the fire, ye pollute yourselves with all your idols, even unto this day: and shall I be enquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be enquired of by you.

Ezekiel 36:38
As the holy flock, as the flock of Jerusalem in her solemn feasts; so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men: and they shall know that I AM the LORD.

Hallelujah!

The full restoration of the land to all the nations of the house Israel, i.e. from biggest to the smallest Christian nations.

Our Father has a simple method of drawing very colorful and impressively graphic pictures in our mind's eye so that we can SEE a visual representation of things which are unseen, invisible, i.e. spiritual. In fact the Apostle Paul explains this in Romans 1:20:

Romans 1:20
For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

If you understand what the symbols represent in an analogy then that which is being taught will be made very simple and easy to understand by the imagery etched in your mind. The proverb "a picture is worth a thousand words" is true, and it is a well documented and established fact that people remember far more of what they SEE than what they hear or read, even if what they SEE is only in their mind's eye, i.e. a picture which they have mentally created! God knows that, of course, which is exactly why the Holy Spirit gives us so many simple pictures, models, and plays to see and watch in His Word.

However, if you do not understand what the symbols represent, you will then scratch your head in wonderment and declare that which has been made so simple to be confusing, complex and mysterious, which is the way many folks describe the plain and simple Word of God.

Are you familiar with what God's elect, His watchmen, will be doing in the last days? Yes, they will be teaching His Word, but there also comes a time when they are to be delivered up.

Here it is in Christ's own words as recorded in the Gospel of Mark:

Mark 13:9
But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.

[10] And the gospel must first be published among all nations.

How is this proclaiming of the gospel among ALL NATIONS going to be accomplished? Is man going to do it, or is God going to do it? Here is your answer:

[11] But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.

Has there ever been anything like it before? Yes there has! Remember what happened on Pentecost Day in Acts chapter 2? Let's go there because this is important to understanding Ezekiel 37.

Acts 2:1
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

[2] And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

[3] And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

[4] And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Now, as these men of God were speaking "the wonderful works of God" (Acts 2:11), which by the way every person present out of every nation present clearly heard spoken in his own language, some were making false accusations against them of being drunk, etc. But Peter stood up and said "No, these men are not drunk. This is an example of what will happen in the last days (which we just read about in Mark 13)."

Then Peter quoted His documentation from the book of the prophet Joel. In other words, Peter spoke in the manner of "Thus saith the Lord GOD", "here's what the Word of God says."

Acts 2:16
But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

[17] And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God,I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

And they now understand the "visions" Ezekiel saw too, including the highly polished spectrum metal circular whirling vehicle which came out of the north sky, let down its landing gear, and landed right in front of him!

They also understand the dreams of Daniel, etc., even king Nebuchadnezzar's dreams! And the Word of God is being taught chapter by chapter and line by line by those sons and daughters, the "children of the prophets" (Acts 3:25).

But as we just read, there will come a time when the "WIND" comes rushing from heaven and the Holy Spirit is poured out on HIS servants and HIS handmaidens and they shall prophesy, to that WIND!

Here it is:

Acts 2:18
And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

[19] And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

[20] The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:

With that background we are now ready to study the great 37th chapter of Ezekiel, and he begins:

Ezekiel 37:1
The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones,

Notice that if you are a servant of the LORD, an appointed watchman, and He has a job for you to do, He can easily just take you by the hand and set you to work in the midst of the field! Or He could carry you to your job in the belly of big fish, like Jonah. Attitude can be important, you know.

We are going to be given some more details of this dismal scene, but first let's jump ahead to verse 11 and learn right away what these "bones" symbolize:

Ezekiel 37:11
Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel:

Here's a good question, "Why use "bones" to represent "people" when we can clearly SEE people?" Because the bones represent a characteristic, a condition, of the people. You see, though they are "physically alive" and walking around, let's say Times Square, the people of the whole house of Israel are "spiritually dead", a condition of the soul which you can't SEE with your flesh eyes. But you can see a valley full of dead bones, can't you?

Let's continue. So far we have learned that Ezekiel, who is a type of God's elect in the final generation, was sent by God to dwell among his people, the spiritually dead house of Israel, in the last days just before the restoration of the Millennium which we have been discussing in these last few chapters. We are actually going to SEE how that restoration begins and how God uses the ministry of the watchman to help bring it about. Again, let there be no doubt, lest any man should boast, it is the Lord GOD who does the restoring, not man. This chapter will document that!

[2] And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry.

It is because of the spiritual famine (no bread of life) and the spiritual drought (no living water) of these last days:

Amos 8:11
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

Amos 8:12
And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

[13] In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.

Ezekiel 37:3
And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.

[4] Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.

[5] Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:

Ezekiel 37:6
And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

So Ezekiel did exactly as he was commanded by God, without question or argument. Teach, teach, teach!

Let see what results there are.

[7] So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone.

[8] And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was no breath in them.

Let's do a current day reality check ourselves. For those with eyes to see and ears to hear, consider now the whole house of Israel. As His watchman, look now out over the valley of the dry bones and consider how many, out of the many, many dry bones (vs. 2), have the "breath" in them! How are we doing? Consider all the true teaching of God's elect, His watchmen, from 24 hour satellite, to internet, to radio, to local Bible studies, to one on one encounters! Have the majority of the whole house of Israel been "sealed" with the living Word of God?

Do you know how many out of the whole house of Israel will be sealed before the 6th Trump sounds and the archangel Michael, who is "holding back" Satan and his angels, casts them out of heaven (Rev. 12:7-9) and the devil himself appears on earth, in person, claiming to be the Messiah? Not very many. Thus saith the Word of God:

Let's read verse 8 again  And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was no breath in them.

Rev. 7:1
And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

[2] And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea,

Things change rapidly when this happens, for the great apostasy spoken of by Paul in 2 Thes. 2 takes place and the whole world, with the exception of God's very elect, will bow and worship Satan as if he were God. Satan will claim that he is the Messiah returned and he will perform miracles in the sight of men to show that he really is! It will be overwhelmingly convincing! However, as it is documented in Rev. 9:5, his personal appearance has been shortened to five months. So Flight 666 departing from heaven and arriving on earth has been delayed due to ground work in the bone yard by the watchmen!

Rev. 7:3
Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

[4] And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

Let's return to Ezekiel chapter 37, verse 9, where now these "four winds" are brought into the picture of Ezekiel's ministry. Why? Because when they are released and Satan and his angels are here, the example set forth in Acts chapter 2, of the prophecy quoted from Joel in Acts 2:18 (above), takes place and the "WIND" the Holy Spirit of God, will "breath" and proclaim the gospel through His servants and His handmaidens upon the slain.

Ezekiel 37:9
Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.

[10] So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.

Ezekiel 37:11
Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts.

[12] Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel.

[13] And ye shall know that I Am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves,

[14] And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD.

Have you ever given any thought to how it is that Christians sing in their hymnals about and say prayers unto "the God of our fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob" and then turn right around and refer to them as Jews! Think about this. None of those three were Jews, for Judah was a son of Jacob (see chart below). Do you know that the words Hebrew, Israelite, and Judah (Jew) are NOT synonymous terms. God's appointed watchmen, those who have eaten the Scroll, the Word of God, and digested it in their bellies, do know the difference. In fact, they are instructed to educate their people about those differences and so it is a very important "end times" job of the watchmen.

Let's read about it.

Ezekiel 37:15
The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,

[16] Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions:

There is something so extremely important that our Father wants His watchman to continually teach it, all their lives! What is it?

It is the fact that the house of Judah IS NOT the house of Israel! They are split into two houses! Judah, along with their allotment of Levites and many from the tribe of Benjamin, comprise the "House of Judah", while Joseph, of whom the tribe of Ephraim was the largest, along with the rest of the 10 northern tribes comprise the other house, the "House of Israel". There are two houses, two sticks, NOT ONE!

Here is why this is so important:

If you do not understand these two houses, then you are not a watchman unto the house of Israel, for you know not who to watch over. Furthermore, if you do not understand who these two houses are, then you cannot possibly understand Bible prophecy! Here's the test question, "Can you show someone where the United States of America, which has many times more Bibles in the land than people, is mentioned in God's Word?" You should not only be able to do that, but as a watchman you are commanded to show the two sticks to the dry bones! That's what this section of the 37th chapter of Ezekiel is all about!

So here's what you do: You say to one of these bone heads when you encounter them, "Don't move, I'll be right back." Then go over to the nearest tree and rip off two small limbs... wait a minute! Check and make sure this action is not in violation of one the 57,002 environmental regulations in your township. Next, take a permanent black Sharpie and write "Judah" on one of the sticks, hand it to skeleton man*, and say, "Hold this up in your left hand a minute." Take the other stick and write "Joseph" on it and tell your sinew challenged friend to hold this up in his right hand.

Now say to him/her, "Are you holding one stick or two sticks?" If he says, "Wow man, I don't know", that means you are in a really arid section of town where the bones are becoming petrified, i.e. getting stoned. Just say "Ok dude" and go repeat this process perhaps in the suburbs somewhere. (This is a fairly close analogy to the teaching job of a watchman.)

Anyway, you've got the picture in your mind concerning the TWO sticks, not one stick, right?

*Note: Gender cannot be readily determined by looking at a skeleton. Gender is a thing of the flesh. So doesn't that make you wonder why all the prehistoric skeletons they discover are always called "men", you know, Neanderthal Man, Pilton Man, etc. Maybe those who made the discoveries were totally wrong and it was really Neanderthal Woman they found! Women just aren't treated equally with men in the theory of evolution.

For the less theatrical among us, there is another way to use "sticks" to demonstrate that which God wants His watchmen to continually educate the dry bones about, and that is simply to write on and hold up the two branches on the Family Tree, one for Judah and one for Joseph.

Here it is:

Now you know why... Ezekiel 37:16! By the way, the star of the House of Israel has 5 points on it. "5" in Biblical numerics means "grace", as in "God shed His grace on thee!" (See appendix 10 in the Companion Bible for the significance of numbers in scriptures.)

Let's continue with verse 17 where God now tells Ezekiel that once the two sticks have been shown to be two separate sticks, demonstrate that they will be joined together and become just one stick. This is prophecy and will happen at the restoration in the Millennium, which begins at the 7th Trump, the return of Jesus Christ.

Ezekiel 37:17
And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.

[18] And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying, Wilt thou not shew us what thou meanest by these?

That is because they are two separate houses right now."

[19] Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.

Ezekiel 37:20
And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes.

Earlier we learned that there is something very important that our Father wants His watchman to continually teach, all their lives! And that something is who the lost tribes of the House of Israel really are. They are NOT the same as the house of Judah. They are TWO separate sticks, even two separate "branches" of the family tree. It so clearly written in God's Word that Judah was only one of the twelve sons of Israel (the name God gave to Jacob), so that while all Jews (of the tribe of Judah) are Israelites, the majority of Israelites are NOT Jews.

It also clearly written and should be common knowledge among Christians that following Solomon's reign over the whole house of Israel (all 12 tribes) that the kingdom was split into TWO separate houses, the northern 10 tribes retaining their name as the House of Israel and southern Judah along with Benjamin becoming known as the House of Judah. Anyone who has a Bible with maps in the appendix can find a map showing these two separate houses. So how is it that so many people think that the little nation in the Middle East is the whole house of Israel? Let's just say it is a case of mistaken ID (Ignorance and Deception).

We have read many times already in this incredible Book of Ezekiel that both the house of Israel, i.e. the 10 northern tribes, and later the southern house of Judah, were to be taken captive and scattered among the nations, and so they were. God's Word always comes to pass exactly as it is written. Even the early apostles knew where the tribes were scattered. Have you ever noticed that the apostle James addresses his book specifically to those twelve tribes which were already scattered abroad? What postal address did he use? You should know.

James 1:1
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

Did you also know that the apostle Paul made it a point to tell us (twice) that he was not of Judah, but that he was a Benjamite, from the tribe of Benjamin. Here is Paul writing in Romans:

Romans 11:1
I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.

Philip. 3:5
Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;

We also learned that God was going to gather His lost children from among those nations and bring them into a land of their own. And so He did.

Ezekiel 37:21
And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land:

[22] And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all:

Rev. 7:4

[5] Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand.

[7] Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand.

[8] Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.

Ezekiel 37:23
Neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions: but I will save them out of all their dwellingplaces, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God.

[24] And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them.

Jeremiah 23:5
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.

Luke 1:32
He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

[33] And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

Continuing with what Jeremiah wrote:

Ezekiel 37:25
And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children's children for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince for ever.

[26] Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore.

Ezekiel 37:27
My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Rev. 21:2
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

[3] And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

Ezekiel 48:35
It was round about eighteen thousand measures: and the name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there.

Ezekiel 37:28
And the heathen shall know that I the LORD do sanctify Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore.

1.) God promised He would gather His people from among the nations and bring them into their own land, where they dwell even now. Do you know where they are?

2.) God promised to restore both the house of Israel and the house of Judah into one stick during the Millennium and His sanctuary will be among them, even the Millennial Temple, and Jesus Christ will reign as King and Shepherd over all forevermore.

3.) God Himself will come (at the end of the Millennium) and He Himself will tabernacle with His children forevermore.

In our next few studies we will preview the final scenes on earth just before the 7th Trump sounds and then we will move on to the "Millennium chapters" beginning with chapter 40 to the end.

In the 38th & 39th chapters we get specific details of the 7th Seal, the 7th Trump, and the 7th Vial which consummate the end of this flesh age.
#8038   There is soon coming a time when the final grains of sand will completely empty out of the hour glass of this flesh age and the 7th Trump will sound and Jesus Christ will triumphantly return to establish the kingdom of God "on earth, as it is heaven".

Chapter 39 is the transition Chapter between this, The second earth age, i.e. "The Human Flesh Age" and The Millennium.
#8039  Chapter 39 of the great book named "God is our strength", EZEK-I-EL, is a "Transition Chapter" between this flesh age and the Millennium age which begins "on that day", the Lord's Day, also known as the Day of Vengeance, the Day of God's Wrath, when Jesus Christ returns and ALL people who are still alive in their flesh bodies will be instantly changed into their spiritual bodies.

There is much symbolism in scripture, God takes things we can SEE with our flesh eyes and uses them to represent something else that we need to SEE with our spiritual eyes. If you understand what the symbols represent in an analogy then that which is being taught will be made very simple and easy to understand by the imagery etched in your mind. The proverb "a picture is worth a thousand words" is true, and it is a well documented and established fact that people remember far more of what they SEE than what they hear or read, even if what they SEE is only in their mind's eye, i.e. a picture which they have mentally created! God tells Ezekiel he is sending him to prophesy to the children of the rebellious people from of ancient Israel who now make up the Christian nations of the world. To a people who have rebelled against God; they and their fathers have transgressed against God, and do even unto this very day. And when these things come to pass, and they will, then they shall know that a prophet hath been among them.
#8002   Question: "How does God reveal Himself unto man?",  Answer: "However He wants to, He's God!"

Ezekiel gets to ride in God's space ship! He was also made a watchman, but only after God had him eat the whole "roll of a book" or scroll written within and without, meaning it was a complete book, of the Lord's Words  just as we are to eat the whole Bible today. Then he was told to go to the children of the "House of Israel" who now make up the Christian nations of the world and speak God's words unto them.
#8003   Ezekiel, you must: (1) Hear the word from The Lord's mouth, i.e. from His Word, not from men. (2) Give the people warning from His word.

Ezekiel is instructed, by the Lord, to bake and eat barley cakes baked with dung that cometh out of man in front of the people. The same people of ancient Israel who would be scattered among the Gentiles and eat their defiled bread, which they still eat it to this very day in there Christian churches! This is the PICTURE our Father wants us to SEE regarding man's religion and what most of our churches are feeding our people. Is the doctrine of your church defiled? Do you know, for sure? Have you read and rightly divided the Bible within and without? The old and the new, both testaments? Do you even care? God cares!
#8004   The children of Israel are going to eat these dung cakes? Yes, they are! The LORD God said so! They would be scattered among the Gentiles and eat their defiled bread, and we are scattered and we do eat it to this very day!

Ezekiel is ask to cut the hair from his head and beard; burn a third part of it with fire; chop a third part up with a knife; and scatter a third part in the wind.; as an physical example to show us what will happen to us spiritually in these end times.
#8005    Another physical example used to help us understand what will happen to us spiritually in these end times. Bear in mind that fire cannot touch or burn that which is spiritual, such as a thought or an attitude or love.

The Lord tells Ezekiel to prophesy to the future Christian nations, "Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places, i.e. your churches".
#8006   When our Father chastises us, His children in the flesh, it is for the GOOD OF OUR SOULS?

The physical types set forth in the Old Testament happened to give us a clear PICTURE of what we can expect to befall us spiritually in the last days. 1 Cor. 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
#8007   What you are about to read in this next chapter is not a pretty sight.

Ezekiel is shown the wicked abominations and goings on that exist in the churches even to this day.
#8008    In 8:16 we will see the priests "with their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east". Sound familiar? (how about Easter sunrise service?) God calls this an abomination! Of course you can disagree with Him! If you like!

The LORD tells Ezekiel how HE will CAUSE  six supernatural "men" i.e. angels, to slay utterly old and young, maids and little children, but not to come not near any man or women upon whom the "tav" has been placed; and to begin at the  "Lord's sanctuary".1 Peter 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God:...
#8009   Sounds pretty gruesome, doesn't it? Remember, this is prophecy for the last days and the killing is spiritual, not physical. And it doesn't matter who you are, if you don't have the cross, you are a dead man!

Ezekiel will once again describe in the limited vocabulary of his day the awesome space ships that he was privileged to see.

The Lord's Highly Polished Spectrum Bronze Vehicle doesn't depart for heaven until after Ezekiel is shown In the gate of the LORD'S house, where the leaders give bad advise to the Lord's people. Ezekiel is then given some encouraging news about how the Lord will provide a little sanctuary in those countries where His people have been scattered where they may come and He takes the stony heart out of their flesh, and gives them a new heart that they may walk in His statutes, and keep His ordinances, and do them: and they shall be His people, and He will be their God.

God tells Ezekiel to prophesy against the Preachers who are inventing their own visions and claiming to have messages from God when He has never told them anything at all. Woe unto them!
#8013   This Bible Study may be offensive to tender ears, to those Christians who just can't imagine that anyone who calls himself or herself a minister or preacher of Jesus Christ, would knowingly mislead anyone for money, power or ego, i.e. for personal gain.

Have you ever wondered how it is that we have so many churches and church going people in our nation and yet we are in the midst of the great famine for hearing the Word of God (Amos 8:11)?
#8014   Don't expect a positive answer to your prayers if you have separated yourself from your Father with a heart [mind] full of men's traditions.

The sole excellency of the branch from a grape vine is that it bears fruit! If it does not bear fruit, then unlike other types of trees whose wood is useful, the vine wood is just about worthless because it is spindly, soft, brittle, and crooked. At least an oak tree can be used to make beautiful furniture, or used as a support beam for a house, or even burned as firewood. Not so with vine wood! So, if you don't stay plugged onto Jesus, who is the true vine, via His Word, you will not bear fruit for His kingdom; therefore be considered worthless and He will burn you up after the Millennium and you, like Satan, will be no more!
#8015   "What Good Are They?"  "And the more fruit you bear, the more the Father is glorified"

This entire 16th chapter of Ezekiel was given to us so that we could understand our Father's feelings about all this spiritual whoredom that is committed by us, His children, through our false religion that we call Christianity! (read #8023 "Church is not Christianity. God's Word is Christianity.) When He refers to Jerusalem as the city he loves He is not referring to the actual physical city in the middle east; He is talking about His children, His church and how it has become polluted.
#8016   The whore just loves religion and even carries a Bible to give her traditions of men added value and make them appear holy, as if they came from Him when in fact they did not. She is deluded indeed.

#8025   Obviously if God brings a nation against a people and causes them to be killed, they won't know that He is the LORD God who loves them while they are in the flesh, will they?

#8035   This is the way God exercises justice and judgment with complete fairness. Should one not be willing to receive the same thing he or she "dishes out" to others. We have a proverb that says, "He can dish it out, but he can't take it". Well, if you can't take it then you BETTER NOT "dish it out", because you're "gonna get it coming' right back at you"!
