THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO
LUKE
Chapter 8
"Christ's Teaching. [1 - 21]"
"Parable of
the Sower. [4 - 18]"
"Two Miracles: The Tempest Stilled. [22 - 26]"
"The
Demonics. [27 - 39]"
"Two miracles: Healing of Jairus' daughter. [41 -
48]"
"Jesus Raising Dead Woman. [49 - 55]"
Luke 8:1 "And it came to pass afterward, that He went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kindgom of God: and the twelve were with Him,"
Notice that as Jesus went throughout the countryside, He didn't just talk about the glad tidings of the kingdom of God, He showed it in His actions, and lived it in His life. As Jesus traveled, His twelve students or disciples were right there by His side. The kingdom of God includes the King and His domain; Jesus Christ is the king of God's domain, and His creation is His domain.
Luke 8:2 "And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils,"
Notice here again that Doctor Luke separates the evil spirits from the infirmities of sickness within the body. Mary Magdalene was cleansed of seven devils, and seven being the number for completeness, tells us that Mary Magdalene was completely cleansed from these devils.
Luke 8:3 "And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto Him of their substance."
"Chuza" in the Hebrew means "a seer", the steward of Herod. This man was a high official in the government, However His wife was a Christian. These women, Joanna, Susanna, and many other women banded together to fill the needs of Jesus and His disciples, and take care of them. Those that say that women have no place in the Bible must be blind or just can't read, for these women looked about the needs of Jesus and His ministry. These women got the job done.
Luke 8:4 "And when much people were gathered together, and were come to Him out of every city, He spake by a parable:"
Stop and think for a moment, for anytime you have a gathering of a large number of people, and a truth comes along in a teaching by Christ; it will be in parables. Why? The truth is only for those with spiritual eye to see, and spiritual ears to hear the truth with understanding. Jesus will talk about why He speaks in Parables in a few verses.
So this is a wonderful parable of the sower. The method of sowing seeds in the time of Jesus, is called broadcasting. A large man six feet tall with a bag of seed could broadcast from side to side about a thirty foot span. If experienced in broadcasting, it can be a very even coverage of the seed. Now keep in mind, when you are broadcasting and scattering the seed in the field, you can't skip any part of the field, it all gets covered. If you have a path or a rocky place, part of the seed will fall in those places also, and this is what the parable of the sower is all about.
Luke 8:5 "A Sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it."
As this farmer went out to broadcast his seed, some of the seed fell on the path that ran through the field; and in time people will walk on the path and the pack the seed to where it will not take root in the path. Some of the seed will be eaten by the birds, as the feed on what is near to them. Where ever grain trucks and trains run today, you will see the birds gathering to have a feast of the grains the fall by the wayside. Remember that this is a parable that Jesus is using to teach the people.
Luke 8:6 "And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture."
All the grain seed that fell on a rock will die. When just enough moisture falls on that grain seed, it germinate and spout, but of course the root cannot take hold in the rock. Quickly it dies off and the wind will blow it away.
Luke 8:7 "And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it."
If you allow a field to let thorns take hold of the field, the thorns will choke out all the good grain, and kill it all off. When we plant our gardens, tending to the weeds become a vital part of the garden, for it doesn't take much time for the thorns and weeds to take control of it, and kill our crop.
Luke 8:8 "And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold." And when He had said these things, He cried, "He that hath ears to hear, let him hear."
Good ground is ground that has been worked, plowed and tilled and made ready for the seed, so when the seed is planted it will grow fast and give a good crop. After Jesus gave this parable, He stated loudly, "He that hath ears to hear, let him hear." Stop and think what this is saying.
What is this talking about? The "seed" is the "Word of God", and the broadcasting of the "seed" is the spreading of the Word of God into the "field", which are the minds of men and women, boys and girls. So Jesus is now going to explain this parable of the sower to the disciples, His students.
Question. Why explain it only to the disciples? Answer. See next verse.
Luke 8:9 "And His disciples asked Him, saying, "What might this parable be?"
Because only the desciples cared to know enough to ask Him! Do you care what His parables mean? What they're meant to teach you and or me?
Of course the disciples were standing there and listening to the entire Parable being taught by Jesus, and just like those listening with them, they just didn't understand it. Matthew talked about this in Matthew 13:36; and we see that after Jesus sent the others away, he is going to explain it to only His disciples.
Luke 8:10 "And He said, "Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they may not see, and hearing they might not understand."
If you are a disciple of Jesus Christ, Jesus is telling you that it is for you to hear and know all the mysteries of the kingdom of God. Did you get that? Jesus is telling us that His parables are only for those with their spiritual eyes and ears opened. Eyes and ears opened by the Spirit of God so that they might see the truths of God's Word, and understand all the meanings that God is giving to His disciples. Matthew talks about this in Matthew 13:13 - 15.
Matthew 13:13 "Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand."
Matthew 13:14 "And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, `By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:"
Matthew 13:15 "For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.' "
Matthew 13:16 "But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear."
Did you get that, Jesus is quoting from the Old Testament, from Isaiah 6: 9, 10. That was one of Jesus favorite books for He quoted from it all the time. This parable is prophecy and Jesus is reminding us of that fact. Think of it if you are ever tempted to discard the Old Testament, for when Jesus spoke He reminded His listeners that "It is written...", and those records are within the Old Testament.
Luke 8:11 "Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God."
Just as in Matthew 13:36-43, Jesus is now going to tell his disciples exactly what this parable of the sower means. Jesus is telling you and I that this "seed" of the parable is the "Word of God", the bible, all of it. So in the parable this man [sower] is going through life spreading the Word of God to all those that came in contact with him.
Luke 8:12 "Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved."
In other words, many people might hear the real truth from God's holy Word, from all the Word. A seed of truth from the garden of Eden, to the Millennium age, and along comes the devil with his bag of tricks and false doctrine, and plucks that truth right out of their minds [hearts]. The first thing they do is run down to some self-righteous hypocrite, at their church, to tell him or her exactly what they heard. When that preacher hears the truth and it goes against their traditions, this false preacher undermines that truth right out of their mind.
Today the doctrines like the rapture doctrine, sets people up to accept the first Christ to come on the scene, and of course that first christ is the false christ, Satan. Satan goes by many names; the serpent, the dragon, the devil or any of the name that he is known by. This poor soul will not allow himself to accept the truth, but his mind is like that hardened path through the field, it simply will not allow any seed of truth from God's Word take root in his or her mind. By eliminating the Old Testament, and the book of Revelation, most churches today leave their congregation as helpless as a baby left out in the wilderness with roaming packs of wild animals all around. Stop and think for a moment. Most Christians today are using this evil doctrine of devils as their first line of defense against the coming of the Antichrist. Satan is coming and it shall be in our generation.
It doesn't take to smart of a person to know that what God says is the truth, and what men and their traditions offer will leave you a very rocky ground. Any thing presented that varies from God's Word, is a lie, for God's Word is the truth. Ezekiel 13:20 tells us that God hates those that teach the souls of his children to fly. If you are one teaching that, God is telling you that He is against you; and you will pay a dear price for your lies and deception to God's children.
Ezekiel 13:20 "Wherefore thus saith the Lord God; `Behold, I am against your pillows, wherewith ye there hunt the souls to make them fly, and I will tear them from your arms, and will set the souls go, even the souls that ye hunt to make them fly."
The "pillows" are the doctrines and traditions that you teach. Do you still hold that demonic doctrine dear? Ezekiel was a prophet of God, for the first verse tells us; "And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying..." When God speaks you had better listen, if you have ears to hear and eyes to see the truths from God's Word. Do you have twitching ears, or hearing ears?
Live Link to-Men as Trees Walking
Luke 8:13 "They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away."
When the people sitting on the rock hear the Word, they are overjoyed with the news. We have all sorts of "rock churches" in our land today, and every Sunday they go and get all charged up over the verse or two that the preacher gives them. However, the substance of the entire lesson, is not based in the Word of God, but in stories and man's experiences in his life or what he has heard from another man. So and so said this and that man said that. It sound so good, and then at the end there is the challenge to salvation and baptism. The same thing over and over, the milk of the Word but with no meat of the word ever mentioned. Get it? It doesn't take long for the first challenge to enter their life, and when it come, the joy of that Sunday time is all gone.
Luke 8:14 "And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection."
Of course many base their entire religious life and seeking the blessings of God, and when the blessings come, they are off and gone. They buy their new house, their big car, their boat and all the other pleasures in life; then take the rest of their life tending to those blessings and they forget God's Word, and telling others of God's love for them.
Luke 8:15 "But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience."
If your mind is good spiritual ground, after you have heard the Word, then keep those lessons that you have learned and understood, and have the endurance to stay on the path or way you were instructed. Don't get so busy that you don't have the time to keep bringing up the thought of the Word, and meditating on the Word. When you keep God's Word hidden and fresh in your mind, God will bless you for keeping your heart and mind honest and good. This requires a little effort on your part, once you have had some of the seeds of truth planted in your mind.
That little woman that washed Jesus feet and anointed Him, from the prior chapter, had a good and honest heart, for she had the faith in Jesus to do what He said He would do. She love Jesus and committed all that she had for the ointment to anoint him, she washed Jesus feet with her tears, and dried them with her hair. Jesus said, "Thy faith hath saved thee", and He forgave her of her sins, and she went in peace. This woman's actions of love were sufficient to prove her faith in the Lord.
Jesus in Matthew 13 expands this parable of the sower, by bringing the tares into the parable.
Live Link to- "Two Sowers of seed; both the good and the bad"
After Jesus told this parable in Matthew 13:24-30. The sower went out to sow the seed, and when he was done, the sower slept. While he slept, the evil one came and planted the tares amongst the good seed. The tares and the good wheat grew up together, and at the beginning they both looked alike, for you could not tell the difference between the good and the bad. Then we read in verse thirty.
Matthew 13:30 "Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn."
As Jesus spoke all these parables to the people, for that is the only way that Jesus taught the large numbers of people that gathered. Why? "That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, "I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world." Were they secret to the Disciples? No. Then in the next five verses Jesus explains the parable to the disciples only. So there can be no doubt in your mind of these parables, lets let Jesus tell us directly.
Matthew 13:37 "He answered and said unto them, "He That soweth the good seed is the Son of man;"
The man that soweth the good seed of God's Word is Jesus Christ, here in the flesh.
Matthew 13:38 "The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;"
The field spoken of in the parable is the world that we live in, and that is not to hard to understand. The "good seed are the children of the kingdom", that love and do the will of God. The "tares" are seed also but "they are the children of the wicked one", from the garden of Eden. They are Cain's children, also called the "Kenites". These tares are those seed that look so much like the children of God, yet in the beginning you just can't tell the difference between what they say from what God's children say. Kenite doctrine sounds just like the real truth, only it varies just enough to make it all a lie. Kenite doctrine is the path to destruction.
Matthew 13:39 "The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels."
There is no doubt about it now, the devil came and sowed his seed and from it came the birth of his child Cain. Cain's children are called "Kenites", # 7014, and 7017 in the Strong's Hebrew dictionary. When the end of this earth age comes, the angels are going to know exactly who these Kenites are, and those that are of the devil, as they gather these souls for the final for final destruction in hell fire. So what are we to do with these tares when they are amongst us doing the work of their father, the devil? They are out there planting their seed of lies and false doctrine, and we are to let them alone. It is not for us to mess with them, for that will be the angels job, they can identify each one of them, and not one kernel [soul] of good grain will be destroyed.
God is telling us to learn the truth for ourselves, and let the Word guide us. When those Scripture lawyers come around you, leave them alone and don't play their games of twisting the truth. That is what Satan and his children do, play church, misuse the Word of God, and mess over those minds that play their games. Drop the seed from the Word to others and let that seed grow. In most cases, it will blow away, but now and there their will be a seed that will take hold, root and become a child of God.
Matthew 13:40 "As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world [age]."
Matthew 13:41 "The son of man shall send forth His angels, and they shall gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;"
This old earth will be swept clean, and all the evil ones, and the tools of their mischief will be take by these angels, and like the chaff, they will go up in a puff of flame.
Matthew 13:42 "And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Of course this is "the lake of fire" spoken of in Revelation 20:11-15. This time is at the end of the Millennium age, when Satan has been released from the pit for a season, and allowed to give the final test to all souls that chose to follow him in this earth age.
Live Link to- Revelation 20 through 22
Matthew 13:43 "Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear."
The point here is that there are a group of people that claim to be of Judah, of our people, yet are not, but are of Satan. These people try to mix with God's people, and most Christian churches don't know the difference. Yet Revelation 2:9; and 3:9 tell us that two churches are well aware as to who they are. Those two churches are represented by the churches of Smyrna and Philadelphia. It is important that you are aware of this or you will be deceived and taken in by them. If you have eyes to see and ears to hear you will.
Live Link to-Revelation 1 through 3
Luke 8:16 "No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light."
So what Jesus is telling you, is that if God gives you the spiritual light to see and understand the truth of who the Kenites are, and what they do: That light or candle should not be kept secret, but set out there where every one can see and know the truth. If you know and understand the hidden mystery of the parable of the sower and tares, you are are aware of who they are, tell others of that truth, don't hide it. If you can see through their four hidden dynasties, and see how they are preparing the world for the coming of their father Satan, let those truths be known.
Those dynasties today are through Religion [a one world religion]; Economics [banking and trade, the tarring down of national borders]; Education [preparing this generation to accept globalism, and redefining of terms to fit that system]; and of course Politics [Governmental control of all areas of your life].
Everything that happens in our generation is detailed by the prophets, for God gave us the details of events that would take place in our generation. That is what Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 is all about. The final generation is marked by the parable of the fig tree and in Matthew 24:32 Jesus told us to learn it.
Live Link to-The Parable of the Fig Tree
This generation of the parable of the fig tree started with the Jews, who are "The Kenites" and "The House of Judah" mixed together, established their tiny nation know as Israel today. Most of the end time prophecies of the Old Testament have already happened, and many of them were broadcasted right into our homes these days. These events are all part of the seed that Jesus is opening to the minds of those that seek the truth. Hopefully you are one of those who are seeking truth!
Editor's Note: You won't find it in 5 out of 7 churches today. So don't look their! You must find it in your Bible maybe with some help from a teacher who teaches from the Bible, book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse, precept upon precept, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Live Link to-Church is not Christianity. God's Word is Christianity.
Here at the American Wisdom Series our goal is to make you think about and question the wisdom of the current:
Don't make yourself a religious fanatic either. To relate these things to our day, would you paint every light bulb in your house black, then leave the lights on all the time? Of course not. Sure you would have the cost of the electricity, but without the benefit of the light. If God places that light of truth in your mind from His Word, and you never let anyone see that light, you are not pleasing Him. We are to share it with others. Once you plant a seed, wait on the Holy Spirit to germinate that seed and that person will ask for more from you. Don't force your truth on anyone.
Luke 8:17 "For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad."
Every truth in God's Word will be made known to those seeking the truth, who have eyes to see and ears to hear the truth with understanding. God uses certain people who have the understanding to make the light shine in the hearts and minds of His children. If you come to the understanding, can God use you? or have you set limits to your life.
Do you know the secrets of the Kingdom? Do you know where the dead are, or the events of the end times? Do you know how today's events going on right now in the world, relate to God's Word, and if you do are you willing to share them with your neighbor? That is making your light shine. God expects you to be a comfort to others.
Luke 8:18 "Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, form him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have."
This is a warning from Jesus to you. Jesus is telling you to listen real carefully, and so you don't hear those truths wrong. If God's Word is shared with you, to the point of understanding, God promises you that there is much more truth coming your way. Get it. As long as you are hunting for the truth, it will be given to you by God's Spirit.
If somebody thinks they understand God's Word, but all they know is what some one verse rev is telling them. God is promising him or her that not only is he going to take truth from you, but you are going to be confused over any other truth that you might have heard. You either have the truth, or you do not. There is no half way, no mixing of religious thoughts, and blending of religions in the word of God. Jesus is telling you that you had better make sure the seed that you hear is from the Word, and is true and accurate. Today many think that they have the Word, only its man's traditions, and that seed will fall and die there on that rock. This verse still applies to that parable of the sower. If God gives a teacher a seed of truth and you don't share it, you will not receive any more it is shared.
Luke 8:19 "Then came to Him His mother and His brethren, and could not come at Him for the press."
Jesus was attending his ministry and there were so many people around Him that His mother and family could not approach Him.
Luke 8:20 "And it was told Him by certain which said, "Thy mother and Thy brethren stand without, desiring to see Thee."
Jesus was notified by those standing near Him that His family was there, and wanting to speak to him.
Luke 8:21 "And He answered and said unto them, "My mother and My brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it."
The brethren of Jesus Christ are those that not only hear the Word of God, but do it. The plant the seeds of truth, and follow the instruction that our Lord has given to us in His entire Word. It is up to you whether you desire to be a brethren of Christ, or not. You can chose to receive His blessings, or refuse them. You receive them by doing the will of God.
Luke 8:22 "Now it came to pass on the certain day, that He went into a ship with His disciples: and He said unto them, "Let us go over unto the other side of the lake."
These next few verses are on testing our faith. There were many people here and Jesus wants to get away from them to be alone with His disciples. So Jesus told the disciples, "We are going over unto the other side of the lake." When Jesus tells you that we are going over to the other side, there should be no doubts in the world that you will get to where you are going to. Jesus was going to take a rest on the trip over to the other side, and this then is a type of that time when He is crucified and when He will resurrect. So the question and test is to see how His disciples will react when Jesus is not with them for that period of time, like when He is asleep or dead from the time of the cross, to when He arose. It is also a type for each of us in our lives, to test us to see if our faith is strong to hold us when Christ gives us a promise. Are we willing to stand on that promise completely? If you find a promise then claim it for yourself.
Luke 8:23 "But as they sailed He fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy."
After Jesus fell asleep, there came a great storm on the lake, and the boat was filled with water. The boat was about to sink. Remember though that Jesus told them, "We are going over to the other side." A promise.
Luke 8:24 "And they came to Him, and awoke Him, saying, "Master, master, we perish." Then He arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm."
When they woke Jesus, He stood up and said, "peace, be still." And the wind stopped, the sea became calm, and the storm was over instantly. This instant calm is symbolizes the coming Millennium age, Christ's kingdom here on earth. Jesus not only controls men, but he controls all His creation. This verse is our Christian boat, our Christian life, and we should go nowhere unless Christ is in control of our boat [life]. That is Christ's gift to us as a believers.
Luke 8:25 "And He said unto them, "Where is your faith?" And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, "What manner of Man is This! for He commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey Him."
This is His own disciples that are doubting Jesus and the power that is in Him. When Jesus states something, to doubt is a lack of faith. He doesn't like that in you. This is the point to what is being talked about here; listen to what our Lord says, and believe it to be fact. Make sure though that you understand what is said, and have it in context.
Luke 8:26 "And
they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against
Galilee."
So they crossed over the
lake.
Luke 8:27 "And when He went forth to land, there met Him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and wore no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs."
The evil spirits have taken over this man and turned him into a wild animal. He didn't live in a house but in the caves where the dead are buried. This man was well known amongst the community for being demon possessed, for he had lived this way for a long time. So what is Jesus going to do with a person like this.
Luke 8:28 "When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, "What have I to do with Thee, Jesus, Thou Son of God most high? I beseech Thee, torment me not."
Notice that this wild man even called Jesus by the Sacred name, for these demons knew exactly who Jesus was, the Son of God. They had seen Jesus before, for when you have seen the Son, you have seen the Father. These demonics knew that they had no power against the power of Jesus, and they are pleading with Jesus not to torment them. It was not the man speaking here but the demons that are living inside the man. The demons did not want Jesus to mess over them, for they knew what would happen if Jesus cast them out of this man.
When a person is practicing the art of reincarnation, the calling up of demons that had lived at a prior time in history, they will speak also in a different voice, for it is not them that speak, but the demons within them. Is that the person that is speaking? Hardly, for that person is only the age since his birth; but it is the demons that possessed another person many years prior. There is no such thing as reincarnation, for all reincarnation is, is demon possession. That demonic spirit was in that exact place way back when, and can relate everything that happened at that time. That demon lived the live of that person many years ago, and he will know all the detail of that poor soul that was demon possessed. So don't be deceived by some person telling you that he was living some time prior to their life, no, the demon within him or her is relating through that person's mouth what he [the demon] was doing at that prior time. Demonics are not happy, and they have no power Christ at any time.
Luke 8:29 "(For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. for often times it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil unto the wilderness.)"
Jesus had already commanded these unclean spirits to come out of the man and leave. The people of the community would see this young lad and seen is condition to be so wild that they would bind him with chains and fetters to keep him under control. When they would have this young fellow all bound up, these demons would brake the bands and chains and flee to the wilderness. A person that is possessed will have the adrenaline going and build up super strength in his body. That is what happens to the physical body that is demon possessed.
Luke 8:30 "And Jesus asked him, saying, "What is thy name?" And he said, "Legion:" because many devils were entered into him."
Jesus knew the identity of both the man and the demons within him, but Jesus is doing this for our benefit today. He responded "legion" for there were many demons within this man.
Luke 8:31 "And they besought Him that He would not command them to go out into the deep."
Stop and think for a moment what this is saying. In the Greek text, the word for "deep" as stated here is "the Abussos". The Abyss is the place of holding for the time of destruction, also called "the infernal, or bottomless pit". Each of these demons knew exactly what is going to happen to them in that place of the bottomless pit, for it is a holding place, waiting for the time hell fire will destroy them. When you order something demonic out of your house and life in the name of Jesus, this is where you order it to go. If you don't, it will still be hanging around you and your place. The abyss is death for any and every demon. This is why demonics are afraid of true men and women of God, for we know exactly where to send them. They have no defense against the name of Jesus, they don't like it so they run, they are frightened.
Luke 8:32 "And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought Him that He would suffer them to enter into them. And He suffered them."
So did Christ send them to the abyss? No, He will not do it, because He will give you and each of His disciples the power to do that job. Jesus has given you the power over all your enemies. These demons pleaded with Jesus not to send them to the abyss, so Jesus looked around to see where to send them. The Gadarenes were hog raiser, swine people, and there were many swine feeding all around them. The demons asked Jesus to send them into the pigs out on the hill side, so Jesus allowed these demonics to go into the hogs. The swine are the lowest of all flesh life, and these demons are not particular who they enter.
Luke 8:33 "Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine; and the heard ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked."
Even the lowest carnal flesh cared what had entered them, and they would rather drown than live possessed. Are men and women that smart? stop and look around at all the games people play with the demon, in their occult, and incarnation games. If you have Christ in your Christian life, there is no room for demons of any form. You may think it is cute to play their games, but the demons know the seriousness of hanging around where the power of Jesus name is present. Demons know that as soon as you wake up in your spiritual life, their life on earth is over. Sure sometimes pigs are smarter than people, and this verse proves it. People will allow these demons to enter their life and mess over their families, and home and do nothing. Without Christ, demons can control your mind. Before you go to bed at night, order everything negative out of your life, and be happy; it is that easy.
Luke 8:34 "When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country."
When those people feeding the pigs saw what had happened to their pigs, they went to town and told all the people what had happened. The economy of the people and community was relying on these pigs, and these demons had rode their profits right into the sea. You can see that the young fellow that had the demons was at the center of the entire story.
Luke 8:35 "Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid."
This is farm country, and when the people went out to witness for themselves what had taken place, there this young man was sitting fully clothed, and listening to what Jesus was telling him. Keep in mind also that this location was not part of Judaea, but of what was Syria, the gentiles, and Christ at this time is also thinking of the Gentiles.
Luke 8:36 "They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed."
Those people that were present when Jesus dealt with this demon possessed man, saw how Jesus spoke to this man and the demons within him, and they obeyed Jesus immediately.
Luke 8:37 "Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought Him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and He went up into the ship, and returned back again."
When the town folk arrived where Jesus was, all they could think of was getting Jesus and His disciples out of the area. These demons had entered into their pigs, and the pigs destroyed themselves. They could live with a wildman in the caves, and they had no trouble with the demons bothering business, but once their pocketbooks were affected, that became to much. They took Jesus and His disciples and brought them back to their boat and saw to it that they were headed to the other side of the lake. Jesus had accomplished what He wanted to, and now it was time to leave.
Luke 8:38 "Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought Him that he might be with Him: but Jesus sent him away, saying,"
The man loved Jesus and wanted to go with Him, but Jesus sent the young man away.
Luke 8:39 "Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee." And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him."
Jesus told him to go home to his own house and tell others of the wonderful healing that he had. this young man not only told others, but he made sure everyone in town knew that his healing was by Jesus. Sure they knew him as the wild man of the caves, now they saw him clean cut, well dressed and preaching the gospel of the kingdom throughout all the community. That was the purpose of Jesus visit to this land of the Gadarenes. God will use whom ever He chooses, and when it is necessary, He will raise up a wild man to preach the gospel. Satan took over this man's life to destroy it, and Jesus came along and gave it back to him. It isn't written who this man was. Did Jesus preach to the Gadarines? No, the young man preached to them. After the sacrifice was made on the cross, Salvation was made open to all people.
Luke 8:40 "And it came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received Him: for they were all waiting for Him."
Now on the other side of the see of Galilee, the people were there and waiting for His return. They had heard Jesus preach, seen His miracles, and even been healed by Him. They saw Him leave, and they expected Him to return just as He left.
Luke 8:41 "And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue; and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought Him that He would come into his house."
"Jairus" means enlightened. This man is befitting of his name. This man ran the local synagogue and he wanted Jesus come over to his house.
Luke 8:42 "For He had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as He went the people thronged Him."
Now we see the reason this enlightened man wanted Jesus to come to his house, for he knew Jesus could heal his daughter. However, as he approached Jesus, the other people that had gathered were all around Jesus, and Jairus couldn't get near Jesus. the number twelve [12] mentioned here has a purpose, for it means "govern-mental completion". This is speaking of God's government, and it is the number that God uses throughout His creation. With the signs in the zodiac, the number of patriarchs, the number of disciples, number of tribes, and so on. Israel was dying for truth, for light, just as this young girl was. So this will symbolize the condition of Israel before God.
Luke 8:43 "And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,"
They spend all the money they had on physicians and nobody knew how to being her back to health. As Luke was a medical doctor, he was telling it as it was.
Luke 8:44 "Came behind Him, and touched the border of His garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched."
This ill woman with the blood issue came up behind Jesus and touched the edge of Jesus' garment, and she was healed. The blood issue stopped. To "touch the border of His garment" is a play on words that God instructed Moses to tell the Israelites, and is talked about in Numbers 15:38, 39.
Numbers 15:38 "Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribbon of blue:"
Numbers 15:39 "And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the Lord, and do them and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring:"
This is just a little reminder that God is your God, and He gave you a set of commandments and rules to follow. This is to be done, through all your generations, to the very end.
Numbers 15:40 "That ye may remember, and do all My commandments, and be holy unto your God."
So this is a little commandment to the tribes to sew this blue ribbon on their garments to remember to follow God's commandments to them.
Numbers 15:41 "I am the Lord your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the Lord your God."
This twelve year old girl was dying, and she represented the twelve tribes of the old nation of Israel. Spiritually speaking that is the way it is with most of God's people even today. This is speaking not just of Judah, but of all 12 tribes. There is only one governmental perfection that matters and that is when Jesus is the King of Kings and the King of your life. His government is the only perfect government that can exist.
So when the girl with the blood disease touched Jesus garment, He knew that she had touched this fringe of his garment. So we have seen the customs that had been given Israel in this, and in the fringe ribbon.
Luke 8:45 "And Jesus said, "Who touched Me?" When all denied, Peter and they that were with Him said, "Master, the multitude throng Thee and press Thee, and sayest Thou, `Who touched Me?' "
Peter reminded Jesus that the people are all around you, and many people are touching you. Why do you ask "Who touched Me?" How do you know which one did it?
Luke 8:46 "And Jesus said, "Somebody hath touched Me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of Me."
The Word "virtue" in the Greek text is "dunamis". It means power, inherent power. It is where our word for dynamite comes from. Jesus could feel the power from His own body leaving when this girl used her faith to touch the Lord, and become healed.
Luke 8:47 "And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before Him, she declared unto Him before all the People for what cause she had touched Him, and how she was healed immediately."
Jesus knew all the time who this woman was, but He asked who this person was. Think of it, she became healed by her faith, then the Lord questions who she was. She came to Him and fell down before Jesus to admit that she was the one, and told the people how she was healed immediately.
Luke 8:48 "And He said unto her, "Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace."
Being healed is one of the rewards of being a believer. The more the Spirit of God is in your life, the stronger your faith becomes, and with it, peace of mind. You know that every word that He promises, is true, and you can have the faith to act on those promises. So if you become a hearer and doer of the Word, you can expect God to act on His promises.
Luke 8:49 "While He yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying to him, "Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master."
Remember Jairus from verse 41, the ruler of the synagogue that came to Jesus because of his sick daughter? Because of the many people around Jesus, Jairus was not allowed to get near Jesus. He had a 12 year old daughter lying near death at home, and wanted Jesus to come to his house. Mean while this other woman that had a blood issue was healed, and Jarius sort of gave up on Jesus ever attending to his daughter. When Jesus turned His attention to Jairus, the daughter had already died, and Jarius told Jesus to forget about his daughter.
Luke 8:50 "But when Jesus heard it, He answered him, saying, "Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole,"
"Believe only, and she shall be made whole". This is a very simple statement, but what power, to bring back to life a person that is dead. Her spirit and soul has departed her body, and Jesus told him, Fear not.
Luke 8:51 "And when He came into the house, He suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden."
Part of the ceremony at death was having those weeping for the dead, and family present. But all that Jesus took with him to the house of Jarius was Peter, James, and John. So we see that Jesus took the five of them in to the room with this dead girl. Five is the number of grace. Grace is a favor from God that was undeserved. God's riches at Christ's expense. The unmerited favor it for this girl that is on the edge of the age of accountability.
Luke 8:52 "And all wept, and bewailed her: but He said, "Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth."
When Jesus walked into the house, every one there was weeping and wailing over the death of this girl. However Jesus told them that she was not dead, but asleep. This is another example of Israel, i.e.The Christian Nations of this 21st century, for they appear to be spiritually dead, and all the time they are asleep spiritually. So when Jesus told them that she was asleep the laughed and ridiculed Him, just as we do today.
Luke 8:53 "And they laughed Him to scorn, knowing that she was dead."
You talk about a lack of faith, so Jesus made them all leave the house.
Luke 8:54 "And He put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, "Maid, arise."
Because of their unbelief they were making a problem for the healing to take place. After they all left, including the disciples, Jesus turned to the girl's body and said, "Maid, arise." This way there would be no doubt in the room. The spiritual meaning of this is that all you need to be awoke when you are spiritually dead is Christ. This also tells us that in the end, there will be only one that shall save Israel, and that is Jesus Christ. Even the disciples were asked to leave.
Luke 8:55 "And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and He commanded to give her meat."
If "her spirit came again", then where was it? When she rose again Jesus commanded that she be given meat, not milk. Milk of the Word is Salvation and Baptism, that is what is given to new born Christians, but when the mature it is not on milk but meat of the Word. the only thing physically that will sustain this girl is meat, and the only thing that will keep you in maturity of the Word is the meat of the Word. The girl had been born 12 years ago, and she is revived here from the dead. She had lived, but was not living at this time. Just like Israel, i.e. the Christian nations of Europe and the Americas, it is not alive today spiritually, and when you go into the so called Christian church houses, all that is given those spiritually dead inside is milk, salvation and Baptism, when all of the members should have been long past that years prior. The meat of the Word prepares you for the times we live in, i.e. the times of the end, and what is taught today, by our one verse revs. is food that will lead you to the wrong Christ.
This should remind us of Amos 8:11; "Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:"
The famine that is going on around us is for the hearing of the Word of God. the people are starving for the truth, don't even realize it, and it is not given to them. Without hearing the word, then how can they be doers? It starts at the top in the religious world today, for their focus is not the Word, but their membership and their traditions. It's time to feed the sheep from the Word, and they will stay home at their congregation. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. There can be no faith without the hearing of the Word of God, as it should be taught, all of it, chapter by chapter and verse by verse with understanding. Then nothing will shake them.
Luke 8:56 "And her parents were astonished: but He charged them that they should tell no man what was done."
When Jesus came out of the room with this little 12 year old girl, her parents were told to keep quiet as to what happened to their daughter. Stop and think for a moment, this girl was dead, and the whole family and friends were there weeping over the little girl. They all knew that she was dead, and had seen her dead body. Now when the parents come out of the room with this girl alive, Jesus tells the parents to say nothing to anyone. With all the good news in their mind, and to say nothing would be unbearable.
Time has everything to do with God's Word, and the order that things are done within the plan of God. At this time it wasn't time to be identified as the Christ, and go to the cross. The plan of God from the Old Testament had not been completely fulfilled. Touching and healing from the dead is not creating life, but allowing the soul to return from it's rest. Jesus is documenting to His disciples that He is the Emmanuel of the prophecies of the prophets. He is showing us that Jesus is God with us in person.
