The American Wisdom Series Presents Job chapter 42 Caution to students of God's Word - Please remember two things when using our American Wisdom Series studies: #1. Our commentary is not God's Word. It is only our interpretation or understanding of "His Word" and even though we try our best to be accurate we may or may not be correct. #2. The King James translation, or any other translation, of the original Hebrew text has some words which were given different translations at different places probably because of the interpreters preconceived ideas of what they think God meant to say. For example: According to the notes in the "Drake's Annotated Reference Bible" the Hebrew word hayah in the KJV is Trans. (became) 67 times, (becamest or came to pass) 505 times, (become) 66 times, and (come to pass) 131 times, but for some reason in Genesis 1:2 it is translated (was)! That sure changes the way a person perceives the original creation of the earth, doesn't it? Gen. 1:2 And the earth was (became) without form, ... Having said that, let us continue with our "studies". These studies contain knowledge, we believe, you must have to fully and accurately unlock and understand the Word of God. May the Holy Spirit be your only guiding light. Sincerely, John Rhine Revelation 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it. John 15:26 This Bible Study was originally written by Roger
Christopherson, You can view it at the season`s web site (address above) as originally published or here, as now edited by people at The American Wisdom Series Without the leading by the Holy Spirit, there is no understanding of the truths, for all the truth of the Scriptures are revealed to us by God's Spirit. Now here is our revised study of: Job Chapter 42 "Yahoveh finishes with Job [1-6]." "Yahoveh speaks to Job's three friends [7-11]." "Job's final years [11-17]." Job 42:1 "Then Job answered the Lord, and said,"
Job 42:2 "I know that Thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from Thee."
Job is now humble as he is addressing Jehovah God. Job acknowledges that he is now aware that God knows every thought that he thinks, even as he is thinking those thoughts. Job now knows that he doesn't have to describe anything to God for He knows everything.
Job 42:3 "Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not."
This should be quite obvious to us now, for the methods of Satan all opened up with Elihu, and Elihu had a demon within him. That was how Satan works; he takes truth, and from the truth he forms his lies. Though Eliphaz claimed to have the Spirit of God, you cannot have the Holy Spirit and an demon within you at the same time. Though Eliphaz claimed to be speaking on God's behalf, he was twisting the truth with human reasoning for the sake of coming to a conclusion based on human experiences. Remember Bildad? His conclusions were all based on human tradition, and Zophar came to his conclusions from human merit. Job is saying that he can now recognize Satan when he comes. After reading all of
the book of Job; can you? Job 42:4 "Hear, I beseech Thee, and I will speak; I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me."
Job 42:5 "I have heard thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth Thee."
Job is saying that he has now heard God by the reading of his word, and now hearing with his own ear, and now my spiritual eyes are open and I see You clearly. God and Satan are both known and real to Job, and Job has each in their place. How did the truth come to Job? By reading and by hearing the Word of God. Job 42:6 "Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes." My
fellow Christian, you like Job are a mere human being, and we are not to confront Satan on
our own. You don't have to learn the
lessons of Job by going through them yourself, but take it by faith. God gave
Job 42:7 "And it was so, that after the Lord had spoken these words unto Job, the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite, "My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of Me the things that is right, as My servant Job hath."
In other words, Job knew that God wasn't the fault, however he did not know who was the cause of his problem. However, you Eliphaz, and your two friends have blamed Me and spoken things about me that are not true. So how is Job going to handle these three friends that have blamed Job with so many accusations?
Job 42:8 "Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks
and seven rams, and go to My servant Job, and offer up for
yourselves a burnt offering; and My servant Job shall
There can be no doubt as to who's servant Job is with God making this statement to all three of Job's friends. Job is one of God's elect, and a servant to Him, just as you are, when you are one of God's elect.
So what did Job say and do about these friends? Job prayed for them and took their repentance to the Lord. It is so hard to pray for someone that has offended you, and talked about you, but that is exactly what we are to do. Pray for each of them. It is the responsibility of the elect to pray for those that are spiritually blind. If you want your life to run smooth, this is the model that you are to follow. Though all this these three still didn't know that Satan was the one that caused it all.
Job 42:9 "So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as the Lord commanded them: the Lord also accepted Job.
The Lord loved Job for Job was one of God's elect. Notice that nothing is said of Elihu here, for God addressed Elihu back in 39 and 40, when He asked, "who is this that talks with all this wisdom?" He set Elihu straight then, and doesn't consider another mention worthy here.
Job 42:10 "And the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before."
This verse is the key to success, so don't over look this verse. If you want to be prosperous then learn the verse spoken of here. The condition and the fact are both stated here.
After Job had been subject to all sorts of torment by these three friends, and then "when he prayed for his friend"..., that is the condition that must be present. Job prayed for the very ones that offended him, and forgave them. God gave Job a blessing for being concerned for those that did him wrong. It takes a big and humble person to pray and forgive those that have done you wrong. As one of God's elect, God expects you to be that person.
So stop and think for a moment, the elect are called the firstfruits, and the rewards for being the firstfruits of God is the double portion. With humility and concern for those that are lost, comes its rewards, which are part of the inheritance that we have as part of the elect.
Job 42:11 "Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the Lord had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold."
If you had not caught the error of this verse than you haven't paid attention all the way through this book. Even though Job knew by then that it wasn't God that brought the evil upon Job, his family, and the rest of the world are still blaming God and even this translator. Human nature would be to turn all these friends and family away for all the evil thoughts that they had about Job, when he sat there in destitute, covered with boils. However, now that those boils are gone, and the wealth is back by God blessing, here comes the friends and family to take hold of Job. That is the human nature of mankind, however as one of God's elect we have a duty and responsibility to take this to the next level, to the spiritual level.
Even though these people didn't know that Satan was the one that caused all the trouble, Job still loved them and took them in. We all make mistakes, and when we do, we are to make things right. Job now knew the Lord Jehovah, and he also knows all about Satan, even thou the others didn't.
Job 42:12 "So the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses."
Job 42:13 "He had also seven sons and three daughters."
There it is again, seven and three, the same number of children he had before the trouble came upon him. You see that "seven thousand" in biblical numerics stands for all the elect that shall be, the first shall be the same as the last. It could not be doubled, for it is the number of spiritual completeness. Sure there will be far more than seven thousand to make the stand, but when the number Seven thousand is used, it always represents God's elect. These seven thousand [Elect] that will stand against Satan when he comes, know Satan in his role of the Antichrist. Each of those will be clear in their mind the entire plan of God, and they will know Satan as the Antichrist by the role he shall play. God's elect will not be deceived.
Job 42:14 "And he called the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezla; and the name of the third, Keren-happuch."
The names of these three daughters in the Hebrew are Jemima, which is to say, "as beautiful as the day"; "Kezla" is translated "as fragrant as cassia, or cinnamon"; and the third daughter Keren-happuch, "the horn of beauty, or plenty". Job was proud of his three daughters and they were an asset to him.
Job 42:15 "And in all the land were no woman found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren."
Job 42:16 "After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, even four generations."
Job 42:17 "So Job died, being old and full of days."
When Job died he had lived two hundred and forty years, and died about fifteen hundred years before the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
To study the Bible is the noblest of all
pursuits; to understand it, the highest of all goals.
We pray that with the
guidance of the Holy
Spirit, you accomplish both.
