THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO
John
Chapter 7

Caution to students of God's Word - Please remember two things when using our studies: #1. Our commentary is not God's Word. It is only our interpretation or understanding of "His Word" and even though we try our best to be accurate we may or may not be correct. #2. The King James translation, or any other translation, of the original Hebrew text has some words which were given different translations at different places probably because of the interpreters preconceived ideas of what they think God meant to say. For example: According to the notes in the "Dake's Annotated Reference Bible" the Hebrew word hayah in the KJV is Trans. (became) 67 times, (becamest or came to pass) 505 times, (become) 66 times, and (come to pass) 131 times, but for some reason in Genesis 1:2 it is translated (was)! That sure changes the way a person perceives the original creation of the earth, doesn't it?  Gen. 1:2 And the earth was (became) without form, ... Having said that, let us continue with our "Key Knowledge" lessons. These are pamphlets containing knowledge, we believe, you must have to fully and accurately unlock and understand the Word of God.

John 15:26
But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

John 16:13-14
[13] Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. [14] He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

Without the leading by the Holy Spirit, there is no understanding of the truths, for all the truth of the Scriptures are revealed to us by God's Spirit.

Now here is our revised study of:

JOHN

Chapter 7

"Third Part of Jesus Ministry; the Refection of the King."

John 7:1 "After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for He would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill Him."

Jesus did not walk in Judaea [not Jewry], because these Kenite scribes and Pharisees sought to kill Him. The true Israelites of Judah would not have done that, but these religious leaders are not of lineage of Israel [Jacob]. Though they claim to be of Judah, many years prior they had moved in to assume the duties of priests and scribes, and these Kenites are the ones that have changed the laws and feast days. That is the reason these feast days are now called, "feasts of the Jews", instead of "feast of Jehovah".

We will see these people in more clear light in the next few chapters. Matthew 13 gives us the parables that Jesus said that we must know, so that we are not deceived by these Kenites. In Matthew 24:32 Jesus tells us to "Learn the parable of the fig tree," for through this parable we can know the sign of the times, and the seasons.

Jesus warned us in Revelation 2:9, and 3:9 that there was one thing that He liked with the churches in Smyrna and Philadelphia, in the latter days. Of the seven types of churches, these are the only ones that He found favor with, and the reason is that they know who these Kenites are. "Those that claimed that they were Jews, and were not, but were of the synagogue of Satan."
These are the ones that take and twist the Word to make it conform to their traditions.
They did it then in the Jewish church: And they do it today in most Christian churches; Mostly through Sunday school quarterlies and revisions to the Bible, by their publishing houses

There is no difference today then it was when Jesus walked the earth. Jesus taught the truth, and God's Word shows their traditions to be false, and for that the Kenites [the bad figs in the parable of the fig tree] sought to kill Him.

John 7:2 "Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand."

This lets us know that this is taking place in September. Ask yourself, What kind of religious community is it that has as its leaders, a bunch of murderers? Are they of God? of course not; but people do a lot of evil things in the name of religion.
The "feast of the tabernacles" had changed so much from what God instructed Moses, it had become nothing more than a ritual and a holiday. The old feast of the tabernacles, or booths, was a time of remembering the children of Israel's forty years of wandering in the wilderness.

Leviticus 23:34; "Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, 'The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the Lord." [34] "On the first day shall be an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein." [35] "Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord: on the eighth and shall be an holy convocation unto you:" [36]
Leviticus 23:40 "And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, and branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick threes, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the Lord you God seven days."
Leviticus 23:41; "And ye shall keep it a feast unto the Lord seven days in the year. It shall be a statute for ever in your generations: ye shall celebrate it in the seventh month."
Leviticus 23:42, 43: "Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths:" [42] "That your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, where I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God." [43]

Why do the Kenites take light on this idea of living in these booths, they are not of the lineage of any of Jacob's [Israel's] twelve sons. However the time was celebrated as a national religious holiday. These Kenites presented themselves as something they are not, of Jacob
.

John 7:3 "His brethren therefore said unto him, "Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that Thy disciples also may see the works that Thou doest."
Jesus is in Galilee, at home with His family, and Jesus' family are the ones that are urging Him to go into Judaea, and face these religious leaders and do more miracles for the purpose of making a name for Himself.
John 7:4 "For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If Thou do these things, shew Thyself to the world."
These brothers of Christ were anxious to have Jesus come out into the open. It is obvious here that Jesus family wanted the fame of Jesus teachings and works to be known by the whole world. It it also clear that Jesus was not on an ego trip, to seek fame and fortune; for every move and word He spoke was directed by the prophets of old, and the direction of the Father.
Jesus family and his next of kin didn't believe in Jesus themselves. This is referring to those in the community he grew up in. They knew His mother and step-dad, but they did not know the little carpenters son, living down the road.
John 7:5 "(For neither did His brethren believe in Him)."
Though Mary and Joseph believed in Jesus as the Messiah, His brothers and sisters did not believe in Him. It's a natural thing to get someone to go on a guilt trip. When God's election comes forth, they are called for a purpose. If you think you are one of God's elect, you were not selected to be puffed up, but to be a servant to the world. To serve for the purpose of glorifying God, not you. If your ego gets in the way of your service to Christ, it is time to take a look at your thoughts and priorities.
If your destiny is following Christ, then your destiny is being a servant to the world. The reason that God chooses people is to teach others to plant the seeds of His Word, and to build others up in the Word of God. We are to be a comfort to the world, to make a difference for God where ever we are.
John 7:6 "Then Jesus said unto them, "My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready."
These members of Jesus family just did not understand yet that their brother was truly the Messiah that came to save the world. They did not understand that as the Messiah, what Jesus did was to fulfill prophecy, and it just wasn't time to bring His ministry to an end. Though Jesus' time is later, Jesus is telling them to go ahead and start your work now, for the planting was done long ago by the prophets.
John 7:7 "The world cannot hate you; but Me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil."
This concerns the frame of mind that people are in. The prince of this world is Satan, and he and his children hate both God, and the elect. They know you and what you stand for, and their hate is because you stand against them, and you will stand against the Antichrist when He comes to earth.
What this verse is driving at here, is Satan and the world did not fully understand Christ's mission on earth yet, and that is why they hadn't moved yet to kill Jesus. We will see as the chapter goes on, that they will know exactly why Jesus came, as they matured in the Word, their hatred  grew stronger.
John 7:8 "Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast, for My time is not yet full come."
This is feast of the tabernacles, in late September, and the full time will come in about one and a half years, during the feast of the Passover. Jesus has been in Galilee for six months, and when He leaves now, He will not return to Galilee again.
John 7:9 "When He had said these words unto them, He abode still in Galilee."
Jesus stayed behind, and told them to go on ahead.
John 7:10 "But when His brethren were gone up, then went He also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret."
After Jesus family left for Jerusalem, then Jesus and His disciples left also for Jerusalem. Only instead of going in force, they entered Jerusalem as individuals. The disciples had nothing to fear at this time, for the orders to kill Jesus had not gone out yet. There were many people coming to Jerusalem, and Jesus entered secretly through the gate, not to draw attention to Himself.
John 7:11 "Then the Jews sought Him at the feast, and said, "Where is He?"
These "Jews" that sought Him at the feast, were Kenites. This shows us that Jesus had built up a reputation. The people that are coming into Jerusalem to worship at this feast time do not know that these religious leaders want to kill Jesus. However there are others that do know these Kenite religious leaders are out to murder Jesus. So as we go on here we will see three different types of people spoken of here.
John 7:12 "And there was much murmuring among the people concerning Him: for some said, "He is a good Man: others said, "Nay; but He deceiveth the people."
What we are seeing here is also very common today in the religious community. There was much religious jealousy. When Jesus healed that man that had not walked in thirty eight years, and the people watch the joy in this man's life and his actions brought many to Jesus side. However those religious types that kept strictly to their tradition, would rather have a person blind or crippled, than have an attack on their traditions that their fathers had thought up.
Jesus stood before the people performing miracles and teaching from the prophets of old. That was pretty stiff competition to those religious types that strut around in their vanity and self-righteousness and did nothing but lay binding restrictions on their lives. The restrictions they place on the people, they didn't follow themselves.
John 7:13 "Howbeit no man spake openly of Him for fear of the Jews."
Because these Jewish [religious leaders] that had mixed in with Judah were wishing to trap Jesus; nobody spoke openly in Jesus' favor. It just wasn't the right thing to do. Today we call it being "politically correct". It was dangerous to your reputation and doing so could have you delivered up to their judgments.
John 7:14 "Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught."
When it was time for the teaching to take place at this time of the feast, Jesus boldly went to the Temple and He taught.
John 7:15 "And the Jews marvelled, saying, "How knoweth this Man letters, having never learned?"
What these Jews are saying, is that because Jesus did not attend our schools and sat under our masters, how could He learn of the letters, which was The Old Testament. The letters are the words of the Prophets. Jesus was the Word, He was the Son of God and that is why He knew it. It was He who gave it to the prophets.
Today it is no different then it was then, for when one teaches others of the Word, the first thing the religious critics want to know is where did you study. What degrees do you have. They want to know what right you have to speak with authority, and they will only respect an authority created from their own systems.
John 7:16 "Jesus answered them, and said, "My doctrine is not Mine, but His That sent Me."
Jesus is telling them that the doctrine that He is teaching is not His, but the doctrine of Almighty God's. Doctrine is important and the only doctrine that is acceptable before the Father is what is backed up in God's holy Word. The doctrines of men are based on man's tradition and those doctrines will get you in trouble before God.
John 7:17 "If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of Myself,"
Remember in II Peter 3:9, we discussed what the will of God was. God's will was that all should come to repentance, and not perish: He is longsuffering [He has a lot of patience]. So what Jesus has said here is that if you do the will of God, you will know the doctrine, and the basic rules that must guide your life. God's rules are always fair to both the saint and the sinner. It is fair and just to all people.
The second rule is that it will be a doctrine of love. Though God's doctrine may seem hard, stern and disciplined at times, it is still administered with love. His love is shown through the justice given to each, in response to their acts. When you disregard God's health and moral laws, you pay the price physically, that is fair and just. When you repent, though your sins are forgiven, your body will still show the results for your disregard of His laws.
In God's doctrine, there are no free rides. In this life you will earn, or pay for everything that you have or get, one way or another. The more you get, the more you are accountable to Him for. So if you win the jackpot, do you really think it was by chance? If you claim the name of Christ, that is a talent that God gave you and you are accountable for what you do with it. God gives us blessings, and when God blesses one of His own, there should be no guilt in your use of that blessing and enjoying the pleasures of it, when it is not by thievery and trickery.
John 7:18 "He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but He That seeketh His glory That sent Him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him."
When you please God, His blessings will always bring you riches, whether it be physical or spiritual. When a person is speaking only of himself, he is only trying to bring glory to himself. When a person is seeking to please God, he is always fair and giving the glory to God.
John 7:19 "Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill Me?"
Moses gave the law, and in that law it says, thou shalt do no murder. You have the law, yet you do not keep the law that you have. Why do you go around plotting to murderer Me? Jesus is telling this stiff necked tribe of religious Kenite leaders, you run around preaching the law, and yet you go around plotting to kill Me.
John 7:20 "The people answered and said, "Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill Thee?"
This is part of the crowd that came in from the countryside, and they just did not know what was going on with their own religious leaders. The plot to murder Jesus was not made public, and this was a complete surprise to many of the out of town folks. This was a slap in the face to those people that came to worship, and to them it appeared that even the thought of it must be caused by the devil.
The religious leaders did not tell the people  what they were trying to do. Does it sound like a religious system you might have heard of today, which runs around telling fairy-tales to the people, and keeping them in the dark in these critical times?
John 7:21 "Jesus answered and said unto them, "I have done one work, and ye all marvel."
Jesus is reminding them that they all saw the one man healed on the Sabbath, and they all marvelled at it.
John 7:22 "Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the Sabbath day circumcise a man."
This is in reference to Genesis 17:10-12, where God gave circumcision to Abraham, who in turn gave it to Moses. This cutting away is an act that is preformed on the Sabbath, just as the ban was healed on the Sabbath.
Genesis 17:10-11; "This is My covenant, which ye shall keep, between Me [God] and you and thy seed [children] after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised." [10] "And ye shall circumcise the flesh of you foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt Me and you." [11]
In the New Testament this circumcision is no longer of the flesh but of the heart, and the circumcision is offered to all that are in Christ. This is because Christ shed His blood for one and all times.
John 7:23 "If a man on the Sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken: are ye angry at Me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the Sabbath day?"
Jesus is asking them, If you receive circumcision on the Sabbath day to make a man whole in the law, they why do you get angry at Me when I make a man completely whole on the Sabbath. Christ is saying that you cripple a man on the Sabbath, and I made him whole.
John 7:24 "Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment."
Jesus is saying to be fair, and use a little common sense. There is nothing wrong with healing on the Sabbath. Jesus said that if you don't know the law and the Scriptures, then test the fruit. The best way to test the fruit or see a man's works, is to use common sense.
When dealing with a person, especially one that says he is a Christian, ask others how he treated them. See the short cuts, or the workmanship that has gone into this persons work and that is how you test the man's fruit. This is how you judge righteous judgment, you use common sense to see if things are as they were presented to you.
When you judge according to the appearance, if it is not just to all involved and within the bounds of God's Word, then it is not of God, and a fake doctrine.
John 7:25 "Then said some of them of Jerusalem, "Is not this He, Whom they seek to kill?"
In the verses above, the people were from the countryside and they did not know what was going on at church [temple] headquarters. But here we have the people of Jerusalem, the insiders of the religious order speaking. These People of Jerusalem knew what is going on. These people are asking, Isn't this the man that the chief priests ["they"] are seeking to kill ["murder"]? A fine bunch of religious leaders, huh? A pack of Satanic murders straight from their father Cain, these Kenite people of Jerusalem are asking, why is this man running around here free?
John 7:26 "But, lo, He speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto Him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?"
These people from Jerusalem are now asking, as Jesus is speaking out even more boldly, Do the rulers know now that this man is indeed the very Christ, which is the anointed one from God? This is dangerous talk, if the rulers hears this type of talk.
John 7:27 "Howbeit we know this man whence He is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence He is."
The teachers in the temple had taught them that the Messiah would be coming from Bethlehem, and here comes this man from Galilee stating that He is the Christ. They expected that when the Messiah came, no man would know the very moment of His arrival. They were looking for the second advent, rather then the first. They expected a time of complete peace in the world, yet, here on every street corner were the Roman soldiers.
John 7:28 "Then cried Jesus in the temple as He taught, saying, "Ye both know Me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of Myself, but He That sent Me is true, Whom ye know not."
Jesus taught loudly and boldly. Jesus is telling them that God is true to His Word, but you just don't know Him. This is part of that other statement, "You claim to know Moses, but you don't know Him either."
John 7:29 "But I know Him: for I am from Him, and He hath sent Me."
As Jesus is stating this in the Temple, it is roughing up the feathers of many, for Jesus is claiming to be the coming Messiah, the Son of God, and Redeemer here. He is saying that God sent Him here to give them the message. This was hard to take for the religious leaders, for Jesus was not only preaching, but He preformed the miracles that gave the documentation of who He was. What Jesus was preaching was against their traditions.
John 7:30 "Then they sought to take Him: but no man laid hands on Him, because His hour was not yet come."
Christ ministry would not end for another year and a half, then He would be betrayed, and delivered up to take the stripes, and shed His blood on the cross. God set the appointed time, and it was written in the prophets of the Old Testaments, and no Kenite religious leader had the power to go against the authority of God.
John 7:31 "And many of the people believed on Him, and said, When Christ cometh, will He do more miracles than these which this Man hath done?"
They could not take Christ and He just continued to teach and perform miracles. This caused many to believe that Jesus was the Christ, and they asked; When Christ comes, will He do more then this man has done? They still haven't caught on completely that Jesus was the Messiah that Moses prophesied.
Though Jesus was born of woman, He was the only begotten son of the Living God, and that doctrine you can trust and stake your life on. That doctrine comes from God, and it stands right into eternity.
John 7:32 "The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning Him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take Him."
Why would the religious community want to take Jesus prisoner? These were the Kenites, and within the next chapter you will know all about them. They are not of Israel, brother Judah, but they are Nethinims. Foreigners, descendants of Cain, given to service in the Temple who have moved in and taken over, while the House of Judah sat by in ignorance and allowed it to happen. The books of Ezra and Nehemiah are directed to the time of the takeover, when the House of Judah came out of captivity in Babylon, and there were no Levitical priests amongst them from the lineage of Aaron.
The Kenites first started out in the Temple during Solomon's time as wood cutters, cutting wood for the altar of God. Then even that position was reserved for Levitical priests, but some four hundred years later these offspring of Cain, [Strong's Hebrew dictionary # 7014, and 7017] controlled the entire priesthood, from top to bottom. Though they brought a few Levitical priests in later, the control stayed with these Kenite Nethinims.
They controlled the keeping of the records of both the people and the Word of God while Judah was captive in Babylon. Listed among the families of the Jews coming out of Babylon, tucked in on the last verse, we are told exactly who is now keeping the records. I Chronicles 2:55;"And the families of the scribes which dwelt at Jabez [Jerusalem]; the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, and Suchathites. These are the Kenites that came of Hemath, the father of the house of Rechab."
If you were wondering how this could all take place? When they control the priesthood, the records keeping, the money bags, and are the only ones doing the interpretation of the Scriptures; then what they say that the law says, the people take as truth. When God's Word is changed, and those at the top accept that lie as truth, then that teaching of half-truths is what is called "man's traditions". "Man's traditions" are lies, because any half truth is a lie. These traditions of men are what the Kenite religious leaders were teaching, and when faced with the miracles and teaching of Jesus, the people could see the Kenites for the liars and murderers they were. Are you starting to see why they hated Jesus so much they had murder on their minds.
A study in the books of Ezra and Nehemiah will show you the history of the takeover by the Kenites, and how even the High priest [Eliashib], sought to turn Nehemiah over to the enemy of the House of Judah to be killed. In Nehemiah 13:4; "And before this, Eliashib the priest, having oversight of the chamber of the house of God, was allied unto Tobiah:" Tobiah was the enemy, and Eliashib turned the house of God over to the enemies of God's people.
Once you understand just who these people are, you will see why they hated God, and wanted to kill Jesus. They were the very genetic offspring of Satan, through Cain, from the Garden of Eden. This is detailed in Matthew 13 in the parable of the tares, as well as in Matthew 23. We will witness it also in the John 8.
My fellow Christian, learn to use common sense when dealing with people and studying God's Word. If they say they are Christians, and their works and fruit doesn't back it up, then they are fakes. If someone says they are giving the doctrines of Christ, and His Word doesn't back it up, then let it be a warning to you. The Spirit of God will give you discernment in His Word.
John 7:33 "Then said Jesus unto them, "Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto Him That sent Me."
John 7:34 "Ye shall seek Me, and shall not find Me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come."
Any person that believes in Jesus Christ can find Him. What Jesus is saying here, in that the chief priests had sent officers to take Jesus, there is no way that they could follow Him. God sent Jesus to perform His ministry, and as long as that ministry has to continue, God will prevent them from finding Jesus.
John 7:35 "Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will He go, that we shall not find Him? will He go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?"
A reminder again, be aware of those Kenites that claim to be of brother Judah. Jesus had just told the people that they could not take Him no matter where He went. So here this person is asking; If Jesus goes, where would He go, to the Gentiles, or the dispersed. The meaning here is to the ten tribes [the house of Israel] that had been scattered. These people were wondering if Jesus would go to those Israelite nations, which are called the Christian nations of today, and teach them God's law.
John 7:36 "What manner of saying is this that He said, 'Ye shall seek Me, and shall not find Me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?"
These people that are in the temple are trying to put it all together, as to what Jesus is saying. At one point the were even saying, is He going to kill himself.
John 7:37 "In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, "If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and drink."
This then is the eighth day, the final day of the feast.
John 7:38 "He that believeth on Me, as the scripture hath said, Out of His belly shall flow rivers of living water."
What Jesus is saying on this closing day of the feast is fulfilling the prophecy. It would be the same day of the year that His circumcision came to be, but there was a practice that on the eighth day of the feast that you drew no water from the well, for it was symbolic of the fact that you would draw water from the rock. This symbolism comes from Exodus 17:6; "Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink, and ..."
When Jesus stated; "Out of His belly shall flow rivers of living water", Jesus was quoting from Isaiah 12:3; "Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation." Jesus is stating that salvation will come only through Him, and this meant that Jesus was declaring Himself to be the Messiah. These Jews knew exactly what Jesus was stating, and there was no middle ground between the two.
Jesus was standing before these people of Judaea, in the temple, and offering salvation to all who would receive it, and salvation was offered right then to them. Jesus is asking them to believe on Him and take the salvation, which is the spiritual water that He is given freely.
Jesus was born on the first day of the feast, thirty two years prior to this day, and He was circumcised on the last day of the feast eight days later. When we celebrate Christmas we are celebrating the day of the conception of the virgin Mary, so December 25th is also a very important day of remembrance. We can figure this, by noting six months after the feast of Abias, when John the Baptist was conceived. That being the 19th or 20th of June of that year. Jesus was conceived six months later.
John 7:39 "(but this spake He of the Spirit, Which they that believe on Him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
The water that Jesus spoke of in verse 38 is speaking of the Holy Spirit. There is a qualifier here; not just anyone can receive the Spirit, but they that believe on Jesus should receive the holy Spirit of God. Jesus is saying that when He would rise from the dead and ascend into heaven, then the Spirit of God would come upon them. This is explained in detail in John 14.This Spirit of God will comfort you when you hurt, and guide you in your life. He will even give you the wisdom to discern the spirits.
John 7:40 "Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, "Of a truth this is the Prophet."
The prophet referred to here is the Prophet that comes direct from the living God, of  Deuteronomy 18:15 as given earlier. I'll raise up a prophet from among your own people, meaning born of a virgin. Many people now know and believe that Jesus was this prophet spoken of by Moses.
John 7:41 "Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "Shall Christ come out of Galilee?"
You see there is a full scale discussion here, with many believing that Jesus was the Christ, however the point that confused some was that Jesus was from Galilee, rather then Bethlehem, as the teachers had taught. You see, Jesus birth place was not know to them.
John 7:42 "Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?"
The difficulty that these people were having, was that they knew the Scriptures, but they did not know the origin of Jesus at this time. David was born in Bethlehem, but Micah states exactly where the Messiah would be born. Micah 5:2; "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting."
John 7:43 "So there was a division among the people because of Him."
There is still a division today because of Jesus Christ, it is called "Catholic vs. Protestantism", one sect vs. another even more finely divided into denominationalism. Jesus causes much division, and much of the division is for the sake of peace of mind. People apply different weights to their lives, and until the coming of the Antichrist, there will always be divisional lines. Once the Antichrist comes, the elect will know the truth, and be unchanging, while all other divisions will in ignorance be taken by the Antichrist.
After the five months spoken of in Revelation 9:5, 10, Christ will come as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and all knees on the face of the earth will bow to Him, or they simply will not be here.
John 7:44 "And some of them would have taken Him; but no man laid hands on Him."
The presence of God was here and forbid any officers of the temple to take Jesus into their hands. It was not Jesus Christ time to go to the cross. Those officers of the temple just stood by and listened to the preaching.
John 7:45 "Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, "Why have Ye not brought Him?"
John 7:46 "The officers answered, "Never man spake like this Man."
These officers were taken in by Jesus preaching, for Jesus spoke with the authority of the Father. He spoke with the boldness that no one would dare question. That is why we must teach that way today, when we teach, for we have the authority of the Spirit of the living God. People can tell the difference, when the authority of God is given, and the message is clear.
John 7:47 "Then answered them the Pharisees, "Are ye also deceived?"
John 7:48 "Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on Him?"
Do you remember Nicodemus from the third chapter of John.
John 7:49 "But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed."
What these Pharisees are saying is; These stupid people that don't know the law would believe anything. This came from the chief priest, and he was depending on his knowledge that Jesus was a Nazarene from Galilee. He couldn't be Messiah, because the law said so, and I know the law. You know the type. The seminary said this, or that, so it must be true.
When Satan tempted Christ, he tempted Jesus with Scripture. He took the word of God, and in each of the points of temptation, Satan misquoted what the Scripture had said. When He comes to you, that is how He will also trip you up. Today there are very few that even know how Satan twisted the Scripture, and why, and if it happened to them, they would be deceived.
John 7:50 "Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)
Nicodemus was sitting there listening to these Pharisee chatter boxes sounding off, and now He is going to say a word. Nicodemus is one of them that believe on Jesus.
John 7:51 "Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?"
In other words, we got a lot of second hand information here, and our law states that before a man can be judged, he must be able to speak for himself. I don't think any of you actually know what He is saying. Our law is written and states that we cannot judge some one on hear-say. The law stated that there must be two witnesses.
John 7:52 "They answered and said unto him, "Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
Now the rest of these chief priests are turning on Nicodemus for even questioning them and throwing their law back into their face. They are wondering if Nicodemus is protecting Jesus, and suggesting that he came from Galilee also. Can you see how stupid these pack of Kenites are. They twist and create a set of laws, and then when it come time to put the laws to work, they throw it all aside just to protect their vain traditions.
They are also showing their lack of the Scripture knowledge. Out of Galilee came Nahum, and Amos, and out of Galilee came Jonah the very type of Christ, that gave them their sign for identification of the true Messiah. Are you starting to catch on what kind of bandits this tribe of Kenites are that are presenting themselves as the religious elite?
Besides these three, Hosea, Elijah, and Elishah, the greatest prophets of all were from Galilee. Then these idiots appointed by a Roman governor, calling themselves authorities on the law, stand before Nicodemus and show their ignorance of the Word.
It is important that you know our Father's Word, as to the general plan of the Word of God, for people today are just as ignorant as these priests that confronted Christ. They will be questioning you and trying to stuff their half truths down your throat. God has a plan, and that plan is written in the Scriptures by His prophets. He gave His Word so that you would not be deceived.
John 7:53 "And every man went unto his own house."
When you read God's word and study it, then when you are in a place of challenge, the Holy Spirit of God will take that Word from your memory, and place it in your mouth. That way it will become His Word, retrieved from your memory.
We are living in the final days of this flesh age, the signs are here, and Israel has formed to bring back both the good and bad baskets of figs, as spoken of in Jeremiah 25:1-5. If you are one of God's elect, with the seal of God [His Word] sealed in your mind, you may be one of those called up to give answer of your belief in Christ. Mark 13:11; instructs us on how we are to conduct ourselves.
Mark 13:11; "But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehandwhat ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Spirit."
Satan, the Antichrist is a master of deception, and He knows Scripture, this is why you are not to plan a debate with him, for you will lose. The match for Satan is the Holy Spirit and that is why we are only to speak when the Holy Spirit gives us words to utter

American Wisdom Series Editor's Note: Now that we've completed this 2015 study of the  "BOOK OF JOHN chapter 7" we have placed a earlier 2002 John chapter 7 study to follow for your comparison. I don't believe you will find much difference in the general opinion of these 2 authors, but to read another person's perspective of events that took place may prove helpful in your understanding of the gospel of John.

Pamphlet 1507-
John chapter 7

They usually will say something like, "I'm going to ask my preacher about that." And if you then say, "Why don't you go ask Jesus?", they will look at you like you're nuts.

It is now about six months since Jesus has fed the 5,000, for it was then just before the Passover and it is now the time of the fall Feast of Tabernacles.  "Things happen" around those times, don't they?

We begin with Jesus in Galilee.

John 7:1
After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.
The word "Jewry" here is exactly the same Greek word Ioudaia translated "Judaea" in verse 3 and should be "Judaea" here also. It was there, in Judaea, that the same hostile group of Jews [kenites] we read of in chapter 1:19 sought to kill Jesus.
[2] Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand.
Note that the "season" is given to us.
[3] His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.
The word "brethren" here refers to Jesus' company of friends and neighbors. And what do you suppose they are doing? Yes, that's right! You read it correctly! They are giving advice to God!
[4] For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.
Look Jesus, "You ought to go to Judaea so that your disciples can see what you are doing, for nobody works in secret if he wants to be known publicly. If you are going to do things like this, let the world see what you are doing." (Phillips)

Don't you just love it when man tells God how He ought to conduct His affairs?

If we have our own plan(s), and it does not align with our Father's Plan, His Word, then we are going to get RUN OVER and flattened like a pancake, for His Plan never fails! (Make that a tortilla. They are even flatter yet!)

John 7:5
For neither did his brethren believe in him.
I guess too they didn't believe in Him! They certainly didn't think Jesus, the Messiah, the Son of God, knew what He was doing, did they?  Again, it's because they didn't believe He was the Christ. They knew Him from childhood and had difficulty accepting the fact He was the Messiah come. You know, "the prophet without honor syndrome."
[6] Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.
Jesus operated PRECISELY according to The Plan that was His Father's will. But the people about Him, those who didn't believe in Him, operated on their own free will. Therefore they could go up to the feast anytime they wanted to, but Jesus would wait for the right time [signal] from His Father.

Note: "Time" in this verse means "opportune time", not the same as "hour" spoken of elsewhere, as in the "hour" of His crucifixion.

[7] The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.
The world does not hate its own, does it?  We could even say that the New WORLD Order does not hate its own, those who are part of it! But the world hated Christ, because he TESTIFIED of it, i.e. exposed its evil deeds. And the New World Order will hate, even as it does now, Christians who expose its evil deeds.

And even as they delivered up Jesus Christ to be crucified, so it written that in these last days, His elect will be delivered up to the synagogues and councils. And do you know what God's elect will do? They will TESTIFY against their evil deeds, just as Jesus Christ did! Ooooh, they won't like that!

Mark 13:9
But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.
"For a testimony against them!" Make no mistake. These words of Jesus do not refer to His 12 disciples who were listening to Him explain what would happen just prior to His second advent. These disciples who will be delivered up are yet to be delivered! So if you consider yourself one of God's elect then re-read this verse with the "you" meaning "you"!

Note: Actually when God's elect are delivered up, it will be Jesus Christ Himself testifying against their [Satan & company] evil deeds, once again! For as it is written, you are not even to premeditate what you will say, for the Holy Spirit will speak through you as He did those on Pentecost Day in Acts chapter 2 when that true tongue [language] will be spoken once again and will understood by every nation and language on earth that is tuned in or on-line.

Mark 13:11
But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.
Let's return to John 7 where Christ politely refuses the advice of the ignorant and sticks to His Father's Plan.
John 7:8
Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.
No, it was not time for Him to travel up to the feast. He would not enter into Jerusalem with a big crowd following Him and as always there was a reason. We will find some it in verse 12.
[9] When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.
He sent the caravan on its way and stayed behind.
[10] But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
OK, the crowd is gone, and now it's time to go up to the feast, using the back roads.
[11] Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?
Everyone is expecting Jesus to show up, probably with a big following. There is much excitement and murmuring and anticipation in the air! And the wicked Jews [kenites], who sought to kill Him, were trying to find Him!

Anybody seen Jesus?

John 7:12
And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.
Notice that His conspicuous absence caused quite a stir! People were talking and murmuring and giving their OPINIONS to each other. Hey, you can get those same opinions today when you bring up the subject of Jesus!
[13] Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.
Oh yes! There is nothing new under the sun. People today don't bring up the subject of Jesus for fear of those who control the politically correct enforcement agencies. Let see we have the main stream media, the ACLU, a corrupt Judicial System, etc. Yep, folks today are becoming completely intimidated by the emerging beast.

In case you weren't aware of it, Jesus Christ is politically incorrect!

[14] Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.
This is His first public appearance preaching in the Temple. Notice He went straight into the Temple and taught publicly and OPENLY. And you can tell from the next verse that He must have given them "a dandy" of a factually and scripturally documented lesson!
[15] And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?
You see, Jesus did not graduate from one the Rabbinical seminaries. So we could say that the Lamb of God didn't have a Sheep Skin. Now that's funny! LOL

Later on the Jews would observe that Peter and John were "uneducated" (agrammatoi), i.e. common men. However, there ability [credentials] to expound and explain the scriptures came from the time they spent with the Word of God, know what I mean?

John 7:16
Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
This is one seven occurrences where Jesus said He speaks only His Father's words.

Here's a good question to ask yourself. Is your doctrine the doctrine of your church, handed down in quarterlies, or the doctrine of the Word of God?In other words, where do you get your bread? There are a lot of ministers and preachers out there baking bread using dung. And people eat that stuff!

Note: For those of you that think I just make up this stuff, well, not always! Have you never read Live Link to->> Ezekiel 4 when Ezekiel was told by our Father to make barley loaves with dung? Yes, it's in the Word of God. Dung cakes!

Ezekiel 4:12
And thou shalt eat it as barley cakes, and thou shalt bake it with dung that cometh out of man, in their sight.
Let the people visibly see what's baked in the "bread" they eat!
[13] And the LORD said, Even thus shall the children of Israel eat their defiled bread among the Gentiles, whither I will drive them.
Our people just love this bread! Ummmm, it's really tasty with lots of sugar sweet traditions baked in! They don't know it's baked with dung and if you tell them, they probably won't believe you anyway. Their church and their pastor wouldn't bake and serve them dung cakes. Well, perhaps not knowingly, but you'd better check out the ingredients in the spiritual bread you eat!

Do you think the kenite hasn't brought this "dung" into the Christian community? You'd be surprised who sits on the boards of the churches today! Hear the Words of Jesus Christ to His disciples. (Must we be told again that this means us if we are His disciples?)

Matthew 16:11-12
How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
That's right, they've got their own leaven they put into YOUR bread! It's called "dung"! (I'm really struggling not use the "s" word.)
[12] Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
Wow, I can't believe the segway here back to the words of Jesus in John. The subject is discerning doctrine, whether it be false doctrine or from Jesus, i.e. the Word of God.
John 7:17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
"If any man DESIRES to do His will he shall know of the doctrine!" How is that? We covered that pretty well in the begining of this chapter. If you believe in Him then you will have the DESIRE to eat of the Bread which came from heaven, which is to study His Word, yes, spend time with Jesus!

And if you are familiar with God's Word, then when someone claiming to represent Jesus as one of His ministers speaks or mutters incomprehensibly, you will instantly know whether they speak God's Words or spew forth man's dung. (Needless to say, you will be even more repulsed by Sunday morning TV if you have eyes to "see" what is being spoken.)

[18] He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
He who speaks his own words is on an ego trip and you'll need a pooper scooper if you listen to them.

Oh, and don't miss the rest of this chapter because believe it or not, we are going to see Jesus turn the traditions of men into dung cakes. (No wonder they don't like it when Jesus makes them eat their own words! Yeeech!)

It is the Feast of Tabernacles in the great city of Jerusalem and the Messiah is boldly and openly standing before the people teaching with such wisdom and knowledge and depth of understanding that they are all amazed. Even the officers who would later be sent to arrest Him will report back to the Pharisees, "Never man spake like this man." (John 7:46)

Now the Messiah is about to expose the hypocrisy of the judgment of the Pharisees and chief priests which they use as their basis to accuse Him of breaking the Sabbath. This is why He was so unpopular with the "world" and this is an example of what He meant by testifying of their evil deeds. And corrupt judgment is indeed an evil deed!

To place the following dialog in perspective, remember that the Jews had accused Jesus of breaking the Sabbath when He healed the man who had been impotent for 38 years and then told him to take up his bed and carry it. For this cause they sought to kill Him. (At least this was the "spin" they were presenting to the people through PNN, Pharisee News Network.)

So Jesus turns to them and puts the substance of their hypocritical accusation to the test.

John 7:19
Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?
"You all are supposed to be keepers of the law of Moses, right? And yet none of you keep that law, so why do seek to kill me? (Jesus had not broken the law of Moses concerning the Sabbath.)
[20] The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?
"The crowd answered: You must be mad! Who is trying to kill you?" (Phillips) .
[21] Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.
In other words, Jesus did only one work on the Sabbath and that was healing the man who had been impotent for 38 years, and they were all obsessed about it.
[22] Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man.
Circumcision began with God's covenant with Abraham (Gen. 17:10) and continued through Isaac, Jacob, etc.  Jesus wittingly points out this "fact" to this bunch of legalists who erringly call it the law of Moses. LOL Then He reminds them that they circumcise male babies on the eighth day, even when it falls on the sabbath day.

Note: The Rabbinic interpretation, i.e. the man made Talmud, of Lev. 12:3 made circumcision on the Sabbath supreme over the Sabbath itself. Circumcision was definitely servile work, any form of which was forbidden on the Sabbath.

[23] If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?
The circumcision was a token between God and man, signifying that the man is made whole and pure. (Since Christ paid the price, today circumcision is of the heart, both male and female. Rom. 2:29)

Now here's the hypocrisy of their judgment, which crushes the foundation of their false accusation. Jesus says to them, "You claim to make a man whole (by wounding him on the Sabbath with a bloody circumcision) yet I make a man completely whole and you are angry at me?" Go figure!

The point of their inconsistent judgment has been well made by the Master teacher. In fact, verse 26 shows that NONE DARED contest the wisdom of the Son of God.

[24] Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
The fact is hypocrites never do judge rightly. They always have a double standard. And they can just never rise above the letter of the law into the spirit of the law.
[25] Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?
Some of the people knew it was the intention of the rulers to kill Jesus and they were wondering why they were letting Him teach so openly and boldly?
[26] But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?
The people were wondering what was going on.  "Isn't this he whom they seek to kill? Look, He stands there fearlessly, speaking boldly and with authority, and no one even challenges him! Do you suppose 'that our rulers have actually decided that this is the Messiah?'" (N.E.B.)
[27] Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.
The "tradition" taught to the people by their religious leaders was that the Messiah would come from Bethlehem and then be hid, but no one would know where. So the people were concluding that Jesus could not be the Messiah because they knew all about His family and their residency.

Knowing therefore what was on the minds of the people, Jesus makes the following statement:

John 7:28
Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.
"You might know my earthly father, but you certainly don't know My heavenly Father Who sent Me!"

(But they knew a lot of rules and rituals from the Talmud. They had religion!)

[29] But I know Him: for I am from Him, and He hath sent me.

John 7:30
Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.

Jesus was divinely protected until the appointed time when He would become the Passover Lamb. No man ever has, nor ever will, have the power to interfere with God's Plan.
[31] And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?
Uh oh! This is a real problem for the Pharisees and the priests. People were beginning to believe on Jesus.  This would cause a festering religious jealousy among the Pharisees whose gods were power and tithe.

Notice that when the people began to "hear and see" Jesus, the Word of God, that they began to use common sense reasoning, i.e. wisdom. Not only that, but once they heard the truth from the Word of God they NO LONGER kept their mouths shut for fear of the Jews as they did in verse 13. Jesus will say in the next chapter: John 8:32 "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."  Worry and fear are bondage!

[32] The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
So the Pharisees and the priests (the supposedly good and holy religious rulers) dispatch officers to take Jesus. They couldn't afford to let this thing get out of hand! Isn't religion a wonderful cloak to hide evil people and their deeds?
[33] Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.
[34] Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.
This threw the flesh-minded so-called religious scholars into a frenzy.
[35] Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
One thing you will notice about this verse is the common knowledge that the tribes of Israel had been scattered abroad. It would be to these 12 scattered tribes that James would write his letter. James 1:1 "James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting."

Note: Most of our people today do not know where those 12 tribes are so they wouldn't have a clue as to where to send James' letter. But their whereabouts is really easy to document, so if you don't know and would like some help, get a copy of  the little booklet written by E. Raymond Capt, "The Abrahamic Covenant". You will find it at www.artisanpublishers.com or you can log unto pamphlets #1020 and #1064.

John 7:36
What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?
They are clueless.
[37] In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
This would be on the last day of the Feast of Tabernacles.
[38] He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
Jesus Christ is the only way to eternal life. But you first have to be thirsty and then you must go to Him to drink of the living water! Do you remember Jesus said the very same thing to the woman from Samaria at Jacob's Well back in chapter 4?
John 4:14
But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
And once again, the qualification is given in verse 38.You must believe on Him! And IF you do, you WILL BE both hungry for the bread and thirsty for the water that comes only from the Word of God.

Do you really understand what that means? We've spent a great deal of time concerning "bread" and "water" so far in this Gospel of John! There must be an awfully important reason why so much attention is given here by the Word of God! And they, the bread and water, are ALWAYS tied to BELIEVING ON HIM!

And we've already witnessed the miracle seekers who followed Christ and were hungry for bread, but it was not the bread from above. They were looking for signs and a religious experience. The bottom line is this: You may go to church once or twice a week, but if you do not study the Word of God, then you are not hungry for the bread and you are not thirsty for the water that comes from Him!

Therefore, you do not believe!

Jesus said that "If any man (no gender implied) thirst, let him come unto Him, and DRINK." He then said: "He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water." (John 7:38)

Now I may be a little dense at times, but doesn't it make sense that one must first drink the water in order to get it into his belly? That is exactly what Christ is saying. "IF" you believe on Him, you'll be thirsty and want to drink that water which comes from Him, and so you will, IF YOU BELIEVE.  But if you go to the Word of God, which contains the living water, and instead of drinking from Him, you just carry the Bible to and from church and maybe take a couple of teeny tiny sips on Sunday morning, you'll never get a belly full of water, the Holy Spirit of God, will you?

You should now truly know the in-depth meaning of the most quoted verse in all of Christianity, John 3:16, and what it means to Believe on Him. You should now see that it's not those who "say" they believe in Jesus, it is those who do, those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, those who eat the daily bread and drink the living water!

John 7:39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
Jesus had not yet ascended to the Father and therefore the comforter was not yet sent. Again, notice who it is that receives the Holy Spirit. It those "that believe on Him".
John 7:40
Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.
The Prophet they are referring to is the One who was prophesied to come in Deuteronomy 18:18, i.e. Jesus Christ.
Deut. 18:18
I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.
Of course not everyone agreed.
John 7:41
Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
Will the Messiah come out of the low rent district?
[42] Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
Yet it does, so why doesn't someone go ask Jesus where He was born instead of assuming He is from Galilee?

It is the most amazing thing when you talk to a Biblically uneducated Christian, one who doesn't eat the bread and drink the living water, and tell them what the scriptures say regarding a matter. They usually will say something like, "I'm going to ask my preacher about that." And if you then say, "Why don't you go ask Jesus?", they will look at you like you're nuts. They don't understand how that is possible since they don't think He is here to go ask. They obviously think that the Written Word of God and the Living Word of God are two different things! Do you?

Note: The word Beth-lehem means house-of-bread. It was to this location that the Bread came down from heaven. (John 6:33, 58) Oh, I get it!

[43] So there was a division among the people because of him.
Well now there's a surprise! People being divided over Jesus. What shall we call it, denominationalism?
[44] And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.
They were simply awe-struck by Jesus Christ, both by His boldness and His powerful teaching. Not to mention He was no 97 lb. weakling in whose face they could kick sand. Neither did they mess with Him when He went into the temple and overthrew the moneychangers tables. Jesus had to be a very strong physically fit individual to have survived the Roman scourging He received just prior to His crucifixion. Most men didn't make it. They died!
[45] Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?
Boy, some things never change! Good help is just plain hard to get!
[46] The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.
"You should have heard this man! His teaching was incredible!"
[47] Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?
"Don't tell us you guys believe him, too?"
[48] Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?
Actually, yes, some of the rulers and Pharisees did! There was Nicodemus who was a ruler and a Pharisee? (John 3:1) And then there was Joseph of Arimathaea, Jesus' uncle.
[49] But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.
You know just from the character of these religious hypocrites who harbor murder in their hearts that this is an arrogant and condescending remark about the people. Welcome to the world of the kenites!

But there is one among them who actually possesses some wisdom, who personally spent some time with Jesus, and he now speaks up:

[50] Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)

[51] Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?

Well, I guess we know whose side Nicodemus is on, ain't?  Notice the brilliant reference to the point of law. He was a very sharp individual, and it would be this man, Nicodemus, along with Joseph of Arimathaea, who would defend Jesus at the illegal midnight trial before the council of 70 and win His acquittal by a majority vote. This would throw Caiaphas, the high priest, into a rage and he would then seek to have Christ tried in a Roman court.

So the chief priest and the Pharisees completely ignored the point of law made by Nicodemus and changed the subject.

[52] They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
OK, let's search and look. Let's see there was Jonah, he was a prophet and he was from Galilee (II Kings 14:25), and Hosea was from Galilee, and probably Elijah, Elisha and Amos.  What then can we say about the scholarship of the chief priests and the Pharisees? Not much! They should have known this just as they should have known many other things. They were always asking Christ questions they should have known the answers to. That is why Jesus usually prefaced His answers to them with, "Have you not read?", or "It is written."
[53] And every man went unto his own house.

John 8:1
Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.

So after Nicodemus' brilliant introduction of wisdom into the conversation they broke up their meeting and went home, while Jesus went off to the Mount of Olives.

And just wait until chapter 8! Jesus is going to return to the temple and after the huge crowd has reassembled, the scribes and Pharisees will bring in an adulterous woman to Him, to try to make a fool of Him. This should be interesting! It always is when man tries to outwit God.

To study the Bible is the noblest of all pursuits; to understand it, the highest of all goals.  We pray that with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, you accomplish both.
