Pamphlet 5049 KC Daniel 22-1
You "see", we will find in this
chapter 11
that
all these things that
have taken place and shall yet take place
have to do with religion
and peace agreements!
As we begin the 11th chapter of the book titled "God is (my) Judge", which is what the name Daniel means in Hebrew, let us be reminded that Jesus Christ directed us to this book for understanding concerning the entering in of the abomination of desolation who would come stand in the holy place where he ought not!
Matthew 24:15 "When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) [16] Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains."
And so it is that this book of Daniel, which was written and sealed up for the time of the end when "many shall run to and fro and knowledge shall be increased (Dan. 12:5)", gives us not only an outline and a "sum of the matter (Dan. 7:1)", but also some very specific details leading up to and even beyond the sound of the 6th Trump when the little horn enters in.
This detailed and accurate knowledge and understanding from "the scripture of truth (Dan. 10:21)" concerning what "would befall our people in the latter days (Dan. 10:14)" strengthens our faith and lets us know that "as we see all these things come to pass" we are nearer that time, even at the doors!
Matthew 24:33 "So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors."
Earlier we saw that the angel Gabriel ("man of God") came to Daniel who was by the side of the great river Hiddekel, which is the Tigris River in the land of Babylon (modern Iraq) where he had seen warfare taking place, for the express purpose of giving him understanding and strengthening him for endurance... for the great spiritual war yet to come!
The last thing we heard Gabriel say to Daniel, which was on the 24th day of the first month and ten days after Passover, was that he was now going to return to fight with the prince of Persia, and when he goes the prince of Grecia shall come (Dan. 10:20).
However, before he goes Gabriel said he would first show Daniel that which is noted in the scripture of truth concerning these things (Dan. 10:21), which brings us to the 11th chapter.
We should point out before we begin with Daniel 11:1, which is a continuation of chapter 10 in as much as there is no break between 10:21 and 11:1, that there was an easy identifiable historical fulfillment of that which we are about read in the first half of chapter 11 concerning the "king of the north" and the "king of the south", which were the Seleucid Kingdom and the Ptolemaic Kingdom respectively.
In fact, the historical fulfillment is so accurate and "right on" that many higher critics question whether Daniel himself could have written it.
That means they either doubt (for they are doubters indeed) our Father's ability to accurately declare the future course of human events beforehand or they deny His power to bring that which is written to pass, or both.
Of course using their same misguided reasoning, they would have to also question whether David wrote the 22nd Psalm because it describes the events surrounding the crucifixion with amazing pinpoint accuracy right down to the casting of lots by the Roman soldiers for the coat worn by Messiah and the very words that would be spoken by the high priest.
Nevertheless, while the scholars study the 11th chapter of Daniel in light of the historical events that took place long, long ago, which you can read and study on your own, we know that those events were but types (1 Cor. 10:11), because again, the angel Gabriel already told Daniel (Dan. 10:14) that he had come to make him understand that which would befall his people in the latter days, which is our time, the final generation, the generation of the fig tree which began on May 15, 1948.
In fact, that which is written in chapter 11 brings us right up to the time of the entering in of the "little horn", which is when the abomination of desolation comes and stands in the holy place.
Remember also that the setting for the vision Daniel saw was along side the Tigris River which ultimately unites with the Euphrates and forms the Shatt al-Arab that empties into the Persian Gulf about 120 miles downriver.
To wit, we have witnessed some great events in the past few decades surrounding this location: an eight year war between Iran and Iraq which killed over one million people, Desert Storm I in 1991, and twelve years later, Desert Storm II which is commonly called Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Therefore we will be looking at (watching as watchmen) and speculating about the events that have transpired in this region of the world, the location of Daniel's perspective, from the beginning of the planting of the fig tree through to the present and even on into the near future just before the time when the "little horn" in Daniel 11:21, the "vile person", enters in and stands in the holy place in the land of Judea.
That is when the great tribulation, the final spiritual warfare and battle for the souls of men, takes place!
Thus the strengthening for endurance that Daniel receives from the revealing (knowledge and understanding) of the events leading up to and just prior to that time, are in preparation for that "spiritual warfare" when God's elect, who shall be called "bruisers" in this chapter, stand up and do some major dragon kicking!
You "see", we will find in this chapter 11 that all these things that have taken place and shall yet take place have to do with religion and peace agreements!
However, those who are "wise" in these last days know that there will be no real peace until the Prince of Peace comes to this earth as the King of kings and Lord of lords to rule all nations with a rod of iron, which is with strict adherence to truth and justice, i.e. with the discipline of the Word of God.
Let us now continue our study of Daniel where the angel is still speaking to Daniel and about to show him "that which is noted in the scripture of truth (Dan. 10:21)".
Daniel 11:1
(Also I in the first year of Darius the Mede, even I, stood to confirm and to strengthen him.)
This is a continuation from the last verse in chapter 10 in that there is no chapter break here in the manuscripts.
Also, Darius the Mede is Cyrus, who we have already noted was one of only three men named by God before they were born.
This is important to note in that God used this one to give the decree to go forth and reestablish the city of Jerusalem.
Interestingly enough, we have now come to a crossroad in modern history, to the point following the fall of Saddam Hussein and his regime, where the focus will be on an agreement to establish the city by bringing peace to the region in and surrounding the land of Judea.
Of course the number one obstacle to establishing that vision is religion!
The angel Gabriel continues:
[2]And now will I shew thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia.
Remember that Gabriel has just said that when he returns to fight with the prince of Persia that the prince of Grecia, who was the he goat in chapter 8, shall come.
That is because there is going to be a "stirring up", which means a "lifting up" or "raising up" against the realm of Grecia, and a mighty king shall stand up and do his thing!
Historically this would have been Alexander the Great.
[3] And a mighty king shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will.
However, these kingdoms were types in that the dream of Nebuchadnezzar concerned the end time when all the kingdoms of the earth shall be contemporaries, meaning that all the powers of their types are ultimately brought together in the New World Order which, following the deadly wound to one of its heads, is ultimately taken over by Satan and his angelic host posing as Jesus Christ and His saints.
[4] And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others beside those.
We read in Revelation chapter seven where the four winds are being held back until the 144,000 "servants of our God" are sealed in their foreheads (figurative for their minds) with the knowledge of His Word.
The great obstacle to peace in the world and in particular the land of Judea is religion which has been the foundation for tyranny and oppression.
That is why it will take a supernatural "religious beast", the second beast of Revelation 13, to establish a covenant of peace and bring stability to the New World Order.
To that end, beginning in the 5th verse of this 11th chapter unto the 20th verse, we as "watchmen watching" will consider the events in the geographical area given to us in this prophecy concerning the king of the north, the king of the south, and "the robbers of thy people (vs. 14)", i.e. the kenites, from 1948 when the United Nations gave sanction to the state of Israel thus setting forth both the good and bad figs in the land of Judea according to Jeremiah 24, unto the present day and overlay them to that which is written in the scripture of truth and given to us for our understanding.
And although we present this overlay of the "peace process" in the greater Middle East region to you as speculation, there can be no doubt that the events have proven that it is the unclean spirits of religion, even amongst the same religion, that have been and continue to be the cause of much bloodshed.
You "see", religion has played the major part in the events of that region and thus has been and will continue to be the reason that all the covenants and peace plans that have been drawn up cannot establish the vision of peace.
The wise in this final generation know and understand that there is only one "roadmap" to true and lasting peace and that is Jesus Christ, the Word of God.
He is the way, therefore we know there will be no real peace until the Prince of Peace comes and establishes His ruling kingdom upon earth.
Daniel 11:5
And the king of the south shall be strong, and one of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and have dominion; his dominion shall be a great dominion.
The king of the south historically was the Ptolemaic Empire or Egypt while the king of the north was the Seleucid Empire, which today is basically the location of Iran and Iraq.
Looking at a middle east map shows their respective locations and the Tigris River, the river at whose side Daniel saw warfare a long way off, i.e. our generation.
As one can readily see, we are basically looking at the Arab world of today, the major religion of which is Islam with her diverse branches!
So let's begin by checking the king of the south (Egypt) at the beginning of the generation of the fig tree, 1948.
King Farouk was in power at that time but then along came Gamal Abdal Nasser who fought in the first Arab-Israeli war (1948) and became the first president of the republic of Egypt.
By 1956 he had become a hero in the Arab world and in 1958 Syria and Egypt united under his presidency and formed the United Arab Republic.
[6] And in the end of years they shall join themselves together; for the king's daughter of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement: but she shall not retain the power of the arm; neither shall he stand, nor his arm: but she shall be given up, and they that brought her, and he that begat her, and he that strengthened her in these times.Nasser, Gamal Abdal
Pronunciation: [gumäl´ ab´dul nä´sur]1918–70, Egyptian army officer and political leader, first president of the republic of Egypt (1956–70). A revolutionary since youth, he was wounded by the police and expelled (1935) from secondary school in Cairo for leading an anti-British student demonstration. He attended (1937) law school and graduated from the Royal Military Academy in 1938. In 1942, Nasser founded the secret Society of Free Officers, which fought against political corruption and foreign domination of Egypt. A major in the first Arab-Israeli war (1948), he was wounded in action. In July, 1952, Nasser led the army coup that deposed King Farouk. Gen. Muhammad Naguib became the nominal head of the government, but Nasser held power through his control of the Revolutionary Command Committee. In 1954, following an attempt on Nasser's life, he arrested Naguib and became premier of Egypt. In 1956 he was, unopposed, elected president of the republic of Egypt.Shortly after the defeat 1967, Nasser resigned, but thousands of Cairenes marched in his support. For the next three years, Nasser did his best to rebuild the Egyptian army and he almost succeeded. His death in 1970 of serious health complications sent shock waves throughout the Arab world. In a stunning display of emotion, millions of Egyptians followed his funeral procession through the streets of Cairo.
But remember, the angel was showing Daniel what would befall us in the end time, the time we are watching and considering, the time just before the four winds are let go, the time of final generation.
In so much as religion is portrayed allegorically in scripture using female terminology such as woman, harlot, etc., we shall consider the same to apply to the "daughter" of the king of the south, for it is Islam which binds together the Arab world.
You may disagree with that speculation, but at least consider the perfect overlay for we are reading events that lead up to the entering in of the little horn, the coming of antichrist.
[7] But out of a branch of her roots shall one stand up in his estate, which shall come with an army, and shall enter into the fortress of the king of the north, and shall deal against them, and shall prevail:
This branch of Islam is known as the Shiites who are once again are coming to the forefront in today's news!
Here is a short bio on the Ayatollah Khomeini:
KHOMEINI, Ayatollah Ruhollah[8] And shall also carry captives into Egypt their gods, with their princes, and with their precious vessels of silver and of gold; and he shall continue more years than the king of the north.(1902-89). In January 1979 a revolution overthrew Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, the shah, or monarch, of Iran, one of the wealthiest and best-armed nations in the Middle East. The moving force behind the revolution was the Shi`ah sect of Islam, led by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. The goal of the revolution was to establish an Islamic state based on the teachings of the Koran, Islam's holy book.
Khomeini was born in Khomeyn, Iran, in 1902. His father, also an ayatollah, was the leader of the local Shi`ite sect. After his father was killed, Ruhollah was brought up by an older brother. His entire education was in Islamic schools. As an adult he published a number of books on Islamic law, philosophy, and ethics. He was eventually recognized as an ayatollah, a religious title of honor meaning "sign of God." In 1962 he made his home in Qom, one of Iran's leading Shi`ite centers.
Khomeini became a strong critic of the shah, opposing his land-reform policies and his goal of making Iran a wealthy and modern nation, patterned after Western societies. He was briefly imprisoned for his criticisms, and in November 1964 he was banished from Iran altogether.
He settled in An Najaf, Iraq, until 1978 when he was asked to leave because of the problems he was causing within the Muslim community and his antagonism to neighboring Iran. Khomeini then moved to France, where he continued his agitation for the overthrow of the shah. From Paris he received worldwide exposure through the press. He sent taped messages to Iran that were transmitted by shortwave radio from the nation's mosques. Mounting public opposition forced the shah to leave the country on Jan. 16, 1979. Khomeini arrived on February 1 to take over the government. In December a new constitution created an Islamic republic, with Khomeini named as Iran's political and religious leader for life.
You may also recall the Shah's son and how he also carried with him great wealth from the treasury of Iran, even to these United States.
And of course the king of the south did continue more years than the king of the north, for the Shah of Iran died of cancer.
[9] So the king of the south shall come into his kingdom, and shall return into his own land.
This is important for the establishing of peace in this region is what this is all about.
Sadat wrote a letter to President Jimmy Carter that opened up the Camp David Peace Accord in an attempt to bring peace to the land of Judea.
Here is an excerpt from an article describing his peace initiatives and the price he paid at the hand of religious fundamentalists.
Anwar al-SadatConvinced that peace with Israel would reap an enormous "peace dividend," Sadat initiated his most important diplomatic ploy. In a speech to the Egyptian parliament in 1977, Sadat affirmed his desire to go anywhere to negotiate a peace with the Israelis. Even, he affirmed, he would go to the Israeli parliament to speak for peace. The Israeli's responded with an invitation to do just that and Sadat's speech to the Israeli Knesset initiated a new momentum for peace that would eventually culminate in the 1978 Camp David Accords and a final peace treaty with Israel in 1979. For his efforts, Sadat won the Nobel Prize for Peace.
At home, Sadat's new relationship with the west and his peace treaty generated considerable domestic opposition, especially among fundamentalist Muslim groups. In 1980 and in 1981, Sadat took desperate gambles to respond to these new internal problems. He negotiated a number of loans to support improvements in everyday life. And he simultaneously enacted laws outlawing protest and declared that the Shari'a would be the basis of all new Egyptian law. Sadat died at the hands of fundamentalists assassins on October 6, 1981, during a military review celebrating the Suez crossing in 1973.
[10] But his sons shall be stirred up, and shall assemble a multitude of great forces: and one shall certainly come, and overflow, and pass through: then shall he return, and be stirred up, even to his fortress.
Soon afterwards, General Husni Mubarak took office, becoming the new king of the south, and committed a great multitude of forces to go fight along the Tigris River against Iran.
[11] And the king of the south shall be moved with choler, and shall come forth and fight with him, even with the king of the north: and he shall set forth a great multitude; but the multitude shall be given into his hand.
How sad indeed. Egypt, the king of the south, had more troops fighting on the side of Iraq than any other nation.
Iran-Iraq WarWar between Iran and Iraq, lasting from 1980 to 1988. The background for the war was disagreements on the borderline between the two countries, stemming back to 1971, when Iran occupied a couple of Iraqi islands in the Persian Gulf. Iraq was also concerned with the Islamist propaganda that was transmitted from Iran to Iraq, and Iraq's government feared that there could be a revolution among the Iraqi Shi'is in the south. In 1980 it was expected that Iran was weak after the Iranian Revolution, so that Iraq would face little resistance when occupying Iranian territory. The war turned out to be a war without progress on either side for most of the 8 years,- it resulted in heavy losses on both sides with 600,000 Iranian and 400,000 Iraqis dead, and an estimated total economical loss of 1.2 billion US$.
[12] And when he hath taken away the multitude, his heart shall be lifted up; and he shall cast down many ten thousands: but he shall not be strengthened by it.
HISTORY
1975: Settlement on frontiers between Iran and Iraq that involved increased territory for Iran compared to the borders prior to 1971.
1980 September 22: Iraq invades Iran, and has early victories.
1982: Iraq has been driven out of Iran.
1982-87: The war enters a phase where Iranian soldiers try to invade Iraq, while Iraqi air crafts bomb Iranian cities and oil installations. Both nations started attacking oil tankers on the Persian Gulf, in reciprocal retaliation. Few territorial advances are made on either side.
1987 July 20: Iran accepts a UN resolution on ending the fightings.
1988: Peace is achieved between the two countries, even if fightings seized months earlier.
"The war turned out to be a war without progress on either side for most of the 8 years,- it resulted in heavy losses on both sides with 600,000 Iranian and 400,000 Iraqis dead, and an estimated total economical loss of 1.2 billion US$."
Again, it was a total waste of the lives of one million people for religious reasons, for her sake, for the sake of Islam!
[13] For the king of the north shall return, and shall set forth a multitude greater than the former, and shall certainly come after certain years with a great army and with much riches.
As a result of the actions of this king of the north, the forces of the United Nations and the United States were drawn into the conflict and the Persian Gulf War, Desert Storm I, ensued.
[14] And in those times there shall many stand up against the king of the south: also the robbers of thy people shall exalt themselves to establish the vision; but they shall fall.
"They shall fall" simply means they shall fail to establish the New World Order because of the failed peace processes in the land of Judea.
Remember back in Dan. 10:20 that the angel Gabriel told Daniel that when he (Gabriel) returned to fight with the prince of Persia that the prince of Grecia would come.
This is important in the timeline because a few verses later in Dan. 11:2 the angel said there would be a stirring up against the realm of Grecia and that will cause the prince of Grecia to come.
[15] So the king of the north shall come, and cast up a mount, and take the most fenced cities: and the arms of the south shall not withstand, neither his chosen people, neither shall there be any strength to withstand.
[16] But he that cometh against him shall do according to his own will, and none shall stand before him: and he shall stand in the glorious land, which by his hand shall be consumed.
Now the shift will be to establish peace in the "glorious land", in land of Judea and the holy city!
But oh boy do we ever have a religious problem here.
We have been given a view of the history in relation to the "daughter" in this region and how her incredible influence has been used to tyrannize, to oppress, and to take the lives of many human beings.
To wit, the conflict continues to this day in the glorious land and we know that it is Jerusalem, the city of peace where there is no peace, that the little horn, the spurious messiah enters in and heals the deadly wound and obtains the kingdom by flatteries.
What an exciting time to live, to see the fulfillment of all that Yahshua Messiah foretold us would come to pass in the final generation!
So hang in there and stand firm in your Father's Word.
Jesus said, "the book of Daniel was where one could go read and gain understanding"
Jesus Christ told us in Matthew 24 and Mark 13 when He sat upon the Mount of Olives and gave His disciples the seven seals concerning the knowledge and the events that would transpire during the final generation of the fig tree, that the book of Daniel was where one could go read and gain understanding concerning the abomination of desolation, that abominable desolator (antichrist) who would come stand in the holy place claiming to be God.To study the Bible is the noblest of all pursuits;
to understand it, the highest of all goals.
We pray that with the guidance of the Holy
Spirit, you accomplish both.
