My Hi-lite:  Daniel 12:4  But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

Daniel 12:9  And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
10  Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
11  And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.
12  Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.
13  But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.

Daniel 12:1  ¶And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
2  And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
3  And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
5  ¶Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river.
6  And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?
7  And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.
8  And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?
9  And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

The book is no longer sealed! It was reveled to John in the Patmos vision. Please read our acouint of the Revelation of Jesus Christ by loging unto Revelation.

Daniel 12:1
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
"At that time" refers to the previous verse (11:45), to the time when the "little horn" comes to his end. That happens at the end of the tribulation of the little horn, Antichrist, when the seventh trump sounds. Remember that the seventh trump is the final trump which announces the return of the Jesus Christ, the true Messiah. Antichrist, the look alike messiah, returns at the 6th trump, which is the 6th seal and the 6th vial. His appearance occurs BEFORE our gathering back to Christ.

And what is with the books? Did you know that our Father keeps books? Everyone's name is written in one or the other!

Rev. 20:12
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Hint: the book to be in is the "book of life". The judgment from this book includes lots of rewards.
Dan 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
Yep, there are those whose names are written in the wrong book.

"Them that sleep in the dust of the earth" is an expression meaning those who have already died in the flesh. We know from the Parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man in Luke 16 that there is a "gulf" or "division" in heaven and those who have not overcome await there. Eccl. 12:6-7 also makes it quite clear that when we die (no matter which book we are written in) our flesh, which is dust, returns to the earth and we return to our Father.

Eccles. 12:6-7
Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern. [7] Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
Paul taught the same thing in the New Testament. To be absent from the flesh body is to be present with the Lord.
2 Cor. 5:8-10
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. [9] Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. [10] For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
So at the seventh trump, which is the first resurrection, we see that some make it and some don't.  Hopefully many more will "make it" during the millennium, the thousand year reign of Christ preceding the Great White Throne judgment. (see Rev 20)
Dan 12:3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
They that be "wise" have their names written in the book of life and so shall shine. Many of those wise have planted seeds and have been (and yet will be) instrumental in turning souls to righteousness, which is our Father.  In Revelation 7:9 we find that there will be a great multitude which comes out of Babylon (confusion) during the reign of Antichrist. This occurs when God's elect are delivered up to Satan and the gospel of the kingdom is aired live throughout the world, via satellite TV, as the trials proceed.
[4] But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
Daniel is instructed to close the book and "seal" it. The "seal" would be broken at the time of the end when knowledge of God's word would be increased.  Of course it is Jesus Christ, the Revelator, who does the unsealing.
Rev. 5:2
And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?

Rev. 5:9
And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

We also read in Dan 12:4 that many would run "to and fro". The meaning of "to and fro" in Hebrew is to swerve, turn aside, apostatize, not fly in jets and drive around in vehicles, though we certainly do that in these end times. Satan was ask by God in Job 1:7 as to his whereabouts. Satan's reply was: "Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth...". He was doing his thing "turning aside" as many as would allow.
Dan 12:5 Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river.
There were two other angels standing on each bank of the Tigris River.
[6] And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?
One of these angels asked this question to the first angel, "When is the end of these wonders going to be?
[7] And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.
A time is one solar year or 360 days. So a time (1) and times (2) and half (1/2) would be 360 + 720 + 180 = 1260 days or three and one half years.

In other words, when the one-world system comes into "full bloom" at the entering in of Antichrist, within three and one half years all the prophecies in this book leading to Christ's return will be fulfilled.

In Revelation we read about this same time period. How long does the dragon, Antichrist, have when he's here?

Rev. 13:5
And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.
Let's see... 42 months x 30 days in a month = 1260 days!

And how long do the two witnesses (two chief bruisers) prophesy (kick dragon) at the end? The same 1260 days.

Rev. 11:3
And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
And how long is the woman (God's elect, those whose names are written in the book of life) delivered as we just read in Dan 12:1? The WHOLE time of Antichrist's reign. (Of course we read again in Rev 9:4 that God instructs Satan "touch not those with the seal of God in their foreheads." They are too wise to be deceived anyway.)
Rev. 12:14
And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
1260 days! Amazing, isn't it?
[8] And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?
Poor old Daniel just did not understand. I suppose it would be difficult to comprehend such things as the gospel being preached throughout the world when you don't know what satellite TV is. Think about it.

So Daniel asks the question again about the "end of these things", the vision he has been given.

[9] And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
This you can be sure was not the answer Daniel was looking for. We don't read, however, that he threw a temper tantrum or called the angels certain expletives, so he must have been accepting of the answer, knowing it was God's will.
[10] Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
Many shall overcome and withstand the "fiery darts" of Satan. The heat will be turned up and the furnace of deception will be seven times hotter. But we now know that the Holy Spirit is fire proof.

And so it is with comfort that we can look forward to the events of tomorrow, knowing with certitude, that our Father is in complete control.

Today we consider the age-old question asked by angels and men and women of God throughout recorded history. It was just asked by Daniel the Prophet in verse 8. It was asked by the disciples of Jesus in Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21. And it is asked today by His disciples in the Year of Our Lord, Nineteen Hundred and Ninety Nine.

In fact, we began this study of Daniel twenty-six lessons ago with this question:

"Jesus Christ was asked by his disciples to tell them what sign to look for just prior to His second coming,

Mark 13:4
"Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?",
He gave them this sign in His answer...
Mark 13:14
But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains: ...
If you have followed with us in this Book of Daniel to this point, then you should have no doubts about who the "abomination of desolation" is. It is an entity, not a thing, standing where "he" ought not (as Dr. Moffat translates it). He is (hang in there one last time) the king of Babylon, the little horn, the vile person, the king of fierce countenance, the wilful king, the prince that shall come, the man of sin, the son of perdition, the antichrist, the beast, the dragon, the serpent, Lucifer son of the morning, Satan himself, the devil.

We documented in the last study that during the final week, the last seven years of Daniel's 70 weeks prophecy, that the duration of the reign of antichrist would be for a time, times, and a half, which is three and one-half years, or 1260 days.

However, there is an element to these three and one-half years that has been further defined by our Lord and Savior in Matthew 24 and Mark 13. And that element is the time span of the defacto reign of antichrist, i.e. his presence here, on earth, in person, face to face. Let's continue in Mark 13. Christ is giving us instructions about what to do when antichrist appears.

Mark 13:15
And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house: [16] And let him that is in the field not turn back again for to take up his garment.
Jesus is telling us that when see the "desolator" standing in Jerusalem that time is short. He is not saying start getting your affairs in order, there's three and one-half years to go! There is urgency in these directions. Let's continue...
[17] But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
The Bridegroom has gone away for 2000 years and when He returns He is expecting to marry a virgin bride. But when He returns He finds his bride-to-be nursing an infant. What does that tell you? She's been taken by another! Woe!
[18] And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter. [19] For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.
Don't be "harvested" out of season. When antichrist and his angels are here in person there shall be great affliction and (spiritual) desolation, i.e. the greatest apostasy of all time.
[20] And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.
What days has Christ just said would be shortened? Those days when Satan stands in the holy place claiming to be God, i.e. the days of the reign of antichrist have been shortened! Why? For the elect's sake, for your sake if you are one of His.
[21] And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not:
They will say "Isn't it wonderful that Jesus has returned?"  I guarantee you that if you are still in your flesh body, the true Messiah has not come! Paul showed us this "mystery" in 1 Cor 15:52: At the sound of the last (7th) trump, in a moment in the twinkling of an eye, all will be changed from corruptible (flesh) to incorruptible (spirit).
[22] For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. [23] But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.
Properly translated, the "if it were possible" in verse 22 implies that it is NOT possible to deceive God's elect.

Here we are again given the reason why Christ has shortened those days. Does He leave us wondering about all this? No! He has foretold us all things. We just have to read and understand.

We have discussed the "four winds" several times in this Book of Daniel. They are present and bring about the final events of the 70th week. In Revelation 7 we see that the four winds are being HELD BACK while the 144,000 are sealed. Satan's arrival will take place, but his flight here (the event of Rev. 12:7-9) has been delayed, for elect's sake.

Why for the elect's sake? To spare their "hides" from antichrist? No! Nothing can hurt God's elect, remember! It is to give them MORE TIME to bring about the "sealing" of the 144,000 and the multitudes which follow. Otherwise, no one would be spared the desolation. Satan is so good and so powerful that if you do not know ahead of time who he is, you will be overflown (swallowed-up in the flood of lies and deception). Let's get everyone that will "hear" aboard the ark!

So, wouldn't it be nice to know how long the days have been shortened? No need to guess, He has foretold us all things. But we must become familiar with the entire word of God.

Revelation chapter 9 describes Satan and his troop's onslaught (spiritually) of the earth. They are described as the "locust army".

Rev. 9:3-4
And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. [4] And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.
The locusts are Satan's army, people NOT insects. Read the entire chapter and it will become clear. Those who do not have the seal of God in their foreheads are in trouble.
Rev. 9:10
And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.
How long does the locust army have to deceive and hurt (causing spiritual death) men? FIVE MONTHS! There's your answer. The time of the reign of antichrist has been shortened, delayed, until the last five months of the 70th week. Is God good to us, or what?

Want to know something else? The book of Joel gives us the four stages of the locust and the encyclopedia gives us the "time" of the swarming stage of the locust. It is from May to September.

Daniel 12:11
And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.
It is fine, instructive, and even a lot of fun to work with the dates and times given in the Bible concerning the return of Christ. They are given to help us watch. Only a fool, however, would set a date and teach others when Christ said no man knows the exact time, only the Father.

This makes good common sense. Human nature being what it is, people would cash in their 401k's and do crazy things if they knew precisely.  Know what I mean? We've had examples in history.

But you could, for example, take the time of Christ's crucifixion unto the "setting up", the planting of the fig in 1948, and divide it by the 1290 days of vs. 11 to arrive at a common denominator, giving you the length of one of Daniel's days. Then by understanding when the sanctuary was cleansed the first time and multiplying the 2300 days by the common denominator, you could arrive at the "season". And that is fine and good.

But know this! Christ did tell us in Mark 13 and Matthew 24 when the final generation would begin. It would be the generation which began at the "setting out" of the good and bad figs, which was 1948. In other words, there will  "baby boomers" that will see the return of Christ.

As watchmen we now see 2 Thes. 5 come to pass as they cry "peace", "peace", peace plan here, peace plan there. And yesterday the king of Jordan, his majesty King Hussein, was buried in Amman, Jordan. He was a man of peace among leaders in the Middle East and his reign spanned 45 years, almost the entire length of time since the good and the bad figs moved into Jerusalem on May 15, 1948. The dynamics in the Middle East are once again changing. It is time to increase our "watch" with diligence as we continue to observe the momentous events taking place at this time.

[12] Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.
Blessed means "how happy" is he that waits. Waits for what? Waits that extra time for the true Messiah. In other words, blessed is he that does not go to the first wedding and gets married (taken out of season) to the false messiah. Remember the parable of the five virgins (symbolic of the virgin bride of Christ, His church)? Five of the ten virgins didn't make it to that final hour. They did not have enough "oil" in their lamps to endure until the end, to the 1335th day! They were seduced before their bridegroom returned.
[13] But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.
Go live out your natural life, Daniel. You shall stand with Christ when His feet split the Mount of Olives at the sound of the Seventh Trump (Zech 12:4). And so shall we see him there!

To study the Bible is the noblest of all pursuits; to understand it, the highest of all goals.
We pray that with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, you accomplish both.
