 PANYARD ENDORSES CONSTITUTIONAL

MARRIAGE AMENDMENT; ASKS, “WHERE’S WALDO, LYNN OR BILL?”

(Harrisburg, PA) – Republican gubernatorial candidate Jim Panyard has endorsed the proposal to be unveiled at the State Capitol today for a state constitutional amendment to assure marriage in Pennsylvania will remain between one man and one woman.

He also asked, “Where’s Waldo, Lynn (Swann) and Bill (Scranton) on this critical family issue?” Swann and Scranton are also seeking the GOP bid to face Democrat governor Ed Rendell in November.

The proposal for amending the constitution to legally assure marriage in Pennsylvania is only between one man and one woman,  is being sponsored by state Rep. Scott Boyd (R-Lancaster) and several other House members. It also has the support of pro-family organizations from around the state.

“This is a very important proposal in that it protects the traditional family, would define marriage constitutionally and separate the political wheat from the chaff on this critical social issue,” Panyard said.

“The problem is that, under the best of circumstances, it will take two years or more to implement. That is why supporters of the plan should know that as governor I will approve it and, in the interim, veto any legislation that threatens the sanctity of marriage before the constitutional change reaches my desk,” Panyard said.

The proposed amendment is an attempt to cut of efforts by homosexual activists to gain a legal foothold for same sex marriage, as has occurred in Massachusetts and, most recently, is being attempted in Maryland.

“If the traditional underpinning of the American family is undermined, what is next, polygamy, multi-partner marriage or worse?” Panyard asked.

Panyard continued, “As usual, no one knows where my opponents, Bill Scranton and Lynn Swann, stand on this issue, and many other issues, impacting traditional family virtues. Since they refuse to publicly debate me, I hope the media can ferret out the information for voters prior to the May 16 primary election.”
