Exodus
Chapter
25
Moses on the mount. The Tabernacle
Exodus
25:1 ¶And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2
Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every
man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering.
Materials for building the Tabernacle
3
And this is the offering which ye shall take of them; gold, and silver,
and brass,
4
And blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats' hair,
5
And rams' skins dyed red, and badgers' skins, and shittim wood,
6
Oil for the light, spices for anointing oil, and for sweet incense,
7
Onyx stones, and stones to be set in the ephod, and in the breastplate.
8
And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.
9
[*]
According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the
tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments
thereof, even so shall ye make it.
[*] TheTabernacle,
speaking comprehensively, is explained in the N.T.as typical in three ways:
[1] of the Church as a habitation
of God through the Spirit (v.8; Eph.2:19-22);
Exodus
25:8 And let them make me a sanctuary;
that I may dwell among them.
Ephesians
2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers
and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household
of God; 20
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ
himself being the chief corner stone; 21
In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple
in the Lord: 22
In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the
Spirit.
[2] of the believer )2 Cor.6:16);
2
Corinthians 6:16 And what agreement
hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living
God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will
be their God, and they shall be my people.
and
[3] as a figure of things in the
heavens (Heb.9:23-24).
Hebrews
9:23 ¶It was therefore necessary
that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these;
but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24
For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are
the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence
of God for us
In detail, all speak of Christ.
Ark of the covenant
Exodus 25 continued
Exodus
25:10 ¶And they shall make an ark of shittim wood: two cubits
and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth
thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.
11
And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, within and without shalt thou
overlay it, and shalt make upon it a crown of gold round about.
12
And thou shalt cast four rings of gold for it, and put them in the four
corners thereof; and two rings shall be in the one side of it, and two
rings in the other side of it.
13
And thou shalt make staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold.
14
And thou shalt put the staves into the rings by the sides of the ark, that
the ark may be borne with them.
15
The staves shall be in the rings of the ark: they shall not be taken from
it.
16
And thou shalt put into the ark the testimony which I shall give thee.
17
And thou shalt make a mercy seat of pure gold: two cubits and a half shall
be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof.
18
And thou shalt make two cherubims of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make
them, in the two ends of the mercy seat.
19
And make one cherub on the one end, and the other cherub on the other end:
even of the mercy seat shall ye make the cherubims on the two ends thereof.
20
And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the
mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another;
toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be.
21
And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark; and in the ark thou
shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee.
22
And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above
the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of
the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto
the children of Israel.
Table of showbread
23
¶Thou shalt also make a table of shittim wood: two cubits shall be
the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a
half the height thereof.
24
And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, and make thereto a crown of gold
round about.
25
And thou shalt make unto it a border of an hand breadth round about, and
thou shalt make a golden crown to the border thereof round about.
26
And thou shalt make for it four rings of gold, and put the rings in the
four corners that are on the four feet thereof.
27
Over against the border shall the rings be for places of the staves to
bear the table.
28
And thou shalt make the staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold,
that the table may be borne with them.
29
And thou shalt make the dishes thereof, and spoons thereof, and covers
thereof, and bowls thereof, to cover withal: of pure gold shalt thou make
them.
30
[*]
And thou shalt
set upon the table showbread
before me alway.
[*] Showbread, a type of
Christ, The Bread of God, nourisher of the Christian's life as a believer-priest
(1 Pet.2:9; Rev.1:6).

Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation,
a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew
forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous
light:
Revelation
1:6 And hath made us kings and priests
unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever.
Amen.
In Jn.6:33-58 our Lord has more
in mind then manna, that food which "came down from heaven"; but all typical
meanings of bread are there gathered into His words,
John
6:33 For the bread of God is he which
cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. 34
Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. 35
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me
shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
36
But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. 37
All
that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I
will in no wise cast out. 38
For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him
that sent me. 39
And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he
hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the
last day. 40
And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the
Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise
him up at the last day. 41
The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came
down from heaven.
42
And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son
of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith,
I ame down from heaven? 43
Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.
44
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and
I will raise him up at the last day. 45
It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every
man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto
me. 46
Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath
seen the Father. 47
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting
life. 48
I am that bread of life. 49
Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50
This
is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof,
and not die.
51
I
am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this
bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread hat I will give is my
flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. 52
The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give
us his flesh to eat? 53
Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat
the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
54
Whoso
eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise
him up at the last day. 55 For
my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56
He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my
blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
57
As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that
eateth me, even he shall live by me. 58
This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did
eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
The manna is the life-giving Christ;
the showbread, the life-sustaining Christ. The showbread typifies Christ
as the "grain of wheat" (Jn.12:24)
John
12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you,
Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone:
but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit
ground in the mill of suffering
(Jn.12:27)
John
12:27 ¶Now is my soul troubled;
and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause
came I unto this hour.
and brought into the fire of judgment
(Jn.12:31-33).
John
12:31 Now is the judgment of this world:
now shall the prince of this world be cast out. 32
And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
33
This he said, signifying what death he should die.
We, as priests, by faith feed upon
Him as having undergone that in our stead and for our sakes. it is meditation
upon Christ, as in Heb.12:2-3.
Hebrews
12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and
finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured
the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the
throne of God. 3
For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself,
lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
Golden candlestick
Exodus 25 continued
Exodus
25:31 [*]
¶And thou shalt make a candlestick
of pure gold: of beaten work shall the candlestick be made: his shaft,
and his branches, his bowls, his knops, and his flowers, shall be of the
same.
[*] The candlestick, a type
of Christ our light (Jn.1:4,9; 8:12; 9:5)
John
1:4 In him was life; and the life was
the light of men.
John
1:9 That was the true Light, which lighteth
every man that cometh into the world.
John
8:12 ¶Then spake Jesus again unto
them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not
walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
John
9:5 As long as I am in the world, I
am the light of the world.
shining in the fullness of the
power of the sevenfold Spirit (Isa.11:2; Heb.1:9; Rev.1:4),
Isaiah
11:2 And the spirit of the LORD shall
rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel
and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
Hebrews
1:9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and

Revelation
1:4 John to the seven churches which

the Tabernacle. Cp. 1 Cor.2:14-15.
1
Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man
receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness
unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Corinthians 2:15 But he that is spiritual
judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
Exodus 25 continued
Exodus
25:32 And six branches shall come out of the sides of it; three branches
of the candlestick out of the one side, and three branches of the candlestick
out of the other side:
33
Three bowls made like unto almonds, with a knop and a flower in one branch;
and three bowls made like almonds in the other branch, with a knop and
a flower: so in the six branches that come out of the candlestick.
34
And in the candlestick shall be four bowls made like unto almonds, with
their knops and their flowers.
35
And there shall be a knop under two branches of the same, and a knop under
two branches of the same, and a knop under two branches of the same, according
to the six branches that proceed out of the candlestick.
36
Their knops and their branches shall be of the same: all it shall be one
beaten work of pure gold.
37
And thou shalt make the seven lamps thereof: and they shall light the lamps
thereof, that they may give light over against it.
38
And the tongs thereof, and the snuffdishes thereof, shall be of pure gold.
39
Of a talent of pure gold shall he make it, with all these vessels.
40
And look that thou make them after their pattern, which was shewed thee
in the mount.
History shows that the northern 10 tribes migrated north over the Caucasus Mountains (hence called Caucasians) and became known as the Cimmerians, the Celts, the Saxons ('Saac's sons), etc., and settled in western Europe, the British isles, and later many migrated to the Americas.
