Remember, the king of Assyria is a type of Satan (Isa. 14:25).
The final two verses in this great Book of Nahum speak of the end of Apollyon, who is Satan, the false messiah, and his "crowned" locusts who appear as "angels of light", i.e. as if they were Christ's ministers and priests!Rev. 9:11
And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.
Remember, the king of Assyria is a type of Satan (Isa. 14:25). His "shepherds" (raah in Hebrew which means "to tend a flock", i.e. pasture it) slumber and his "mighty, gallant noble ones" shall "dwell in the dust" which means to "lie down" in death (see note in the Companion Bible)! And there will be no man, i.e. no leader, to gather them anymore. Why not? Because as it is written in Rev. 20:2, Satan shall be bound (and placed back in the pit - Isa. 14:15) for the duration of the Millennium.Nahum 3:18
Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria: thy nobles shall dwell in the dust: thy people is scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathereth them.
Here are the Father's final words to the king of Assyria:
Do you remember those mourning saints in Rev. 6 who "...cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?"Just wait until they hear that Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen (Rev. 14:8, 18:2) and shall never rise again! And when Jesus Christ finally "bruises the head of the serpent" as it has been prophesied from the beginning (Gen. 3:15), there shall be much rejoicing, as in clapping of the hands, and singing (Rev. 15) at the "good tidings", the report that "it is finished" and the words of Nahum have come to pass! Note: "Bruit" means "report, tidings".[19] There is no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
What a great "day of comfort" it will be to those who mourn the evil and injustice that has passed continually, when the King of kings and Lord of lords returns to this earth and destroys the "great city" (typified by Nineveh) and puts an end to the oppression of the king of Assyria, i.e. Satan's "wickedness that has passed continually" upon all peoples and nations and tongues!
It shall SURELY HAPPEN exactly as it is written for the One who has ALL POWER has spoken it through his prophet, Nahum the Elkoshite! But you know what? Those who have eyes to see and ears to hear, those sons and daughters in this final generation who see (understand) "visions" (Acts 2) and therefore have "seen" the "vision" of Nahum the Elkoshite (vs. 1:1), can be comforted and have peace of mind even now, for they know with certitude through faith and through the knowledge of His Word that we have the victory! Not only that, but they have a "heads-up" in knowing ahead of time the very song to be sung at the victory celebration! Do you know what it is?
Here is the victory song to be sung on that great day:Rev. 15:2
And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
The Song of Moses is the 32nd chapter of Deuteronomy and the "saying" in Rev. 15:3 is contained therein: Deut. 32:4 "He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all His ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He."[3] And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.
His judgments shall be made manifest (i.e. shown forth) on that great day when Jesus Christ returns and fulfills the second half of Isaiah 61:2! What an exciting time it is to live in this final generation! What makes it so exciting is knowing our Father's Word and watching the visions of the prophets come to pass exactly as He has foretold us all things (Mark 13:23)!Rev. 15:4
Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.
Thank you Father for your love in giving us your Son and in giving us understanding of your Word! What a comfort this Book of Nahum has been.
Amen.
