Pamphlet 1700 Habakkuk kc 8-1
"Before
God delivers His people He brings forth the pestilences
(plagues,
i.e. pours out the vials),
which
are as burning coals, especially to His enemies."
Habakkuk has "Seen" and now understands "the work that our Father will work" in these last days and how He is going to come forth during the oppression and captivity of His children by the Chaldeans and "Reveal" His awesome "Power and Glory", just as He did before in the land of Egypt.
To that end, the wise of this final generation know that He will send forth His two witnesses, His right hand men (no gender implied), i.e. those two rays of light we learned about in our last study, to bring forth His Power, His Truth, which He has given unto them.
Rev. 11:3
And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.[4] These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
[5] And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
[6] These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
The phrase "As He went forth to conquer for His people" is an Ellipsis which needs to be supplied at the beginning of this next verse in Habakkuk (See note in Companion Bible, pg. 1270, and appendix 6).
Habakkuk 3:5
Before Him went the pestilence, and burning coals went forth at his feet.
Do not make this to be difficult in your mind. What Habakkuk is saying is that "Before God delivers His people He brings forth the pestilences (plagues, i.e. pours out the vials), which are as burning coals, especially to His enemies."
Remember, the first vision Habakkuk saw was the iniquity and oppression, even the great tribulation of the Chaldeans, i.e. antichrist, the proud one, and his troops, and he was troubled and concerned for his people and inquired of God to give him understanding concerning the reason He allowed such wicked men to "compass about the righteous", a thing he did not like.
After waiting patiently upon the Word of God, Habakkuk understood that God is going to come forth from that confusion (Babylon) and captivity (Egypt) and perverse idolatry (Sodom) and deliver His people, in like manner as He delivered Israel from Pharaoh, i.e. in a "Spectacular" work that He shall work in these last days!
Now Habakkuk sees the very wrath of God poured out, a vision which will at first cause his "belly to tremble and his lips to quiver" (vs. 16) until once again his anxiety is "put to REST" by the "Embracing" of our Father through the knowledge of His Word.
And now... a glimpse of the deliverance of God's people
through the wrath of God.
