(Remember in Luke 4:19 He read the
first half of Isa. 61:2 and closed the book
and sat down saying "This day is
this scripture fulfilled in your ears.")
By now we should know and remember that "Nahum" means "consolation" or "comfort", even "comforter".
It is therefore not remarkable by any means that Jesus
Christ spent a great deal of time in a place called "Caper-naum",
the name of which comes from the Hebrew words "Caphar"
meaning "village"
and "Nachuwm" or "Nahum" meaning "comfort".
It was there, in the "Village of Comfort", that Jesus
Christ established His residency (Mat. 4:13, Mk. 2:1)
along with His apostles, and it was there also that He
frequently taught in the synagogue
and performed many miracles in fulfilling the first half
of Isaiah 61:2
"To proclaim the acceptable year
of the LORD...".
(Remember in Luke 4:19 He read the first half of Isa.
61:2 and closed the book
and sat down saying "This day is this scripture fulfilled
in your ears.")
Yes, the One who created all things that are in both heaven
and earth,
the One who has all power, came down from above
to be born of woman in a lowly manger and ultimately
suffer crucifixion on the cross at Calvary
to pay the price for our sins that whosoever will
repent and turn to Him might have life eternal.
But the acceptable year (age), i.e. the time for all "who
will" to repent
and accept His salvation, is fast coming to a close and
that Lamb of God who was slain
and became our Passover shall soon return.
Only this time the One who created all things in both
heaven and earth,
the One who has all power, shall come in that Power and
Glory as the King of kings and Lords of lords
and fulfill the second half of Isaiah 61:2 "...
and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn."
That day of "vengeance on His adversaries" when His wrath
is poured out on them and the ensuing "comfort"
it brings to His children in seeing truth and justice,
i.e. His righteous, prevail is what this Book of Nahum
is all about.
Nahum 1:2
God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.
The answer is: "NOT His adversaries, that's for sure!"
You see, there is conflict and there is strife and there
is enmity but there is "NO CONTEST"
when it comes to POWER!
It serves us well to ALWAYS remember who has ALL power
and who is in charge of ALL things for that knowledge
gives us both comfort and confidence
in knowing that the end has been declared from the beginning
and guess what?
We have the VICTORY in Him who has all power!
Col. 1:16 For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him:
He does have that kind of power! In fact, he's already toast, i.e. as good as dead!
That is why he is called the "son of perdition" which means the "son who will perish"!
Hey, Michael the archangel, the prince of our people,
has that dude contained and restrained until God says
"OK, sound the 6th Trump and release him".
That alone shows just how little power Satan and his angels actually have.
They only still exist because it is His will in fulfilling His plan.
[17]And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.
Babylon the great, that great whore and mother of harlots,
that entire Satanic One World Political,
Economic, Educational and Religious system headed by
Satan himself
standing in the holy place claiming to be Jesus, shall
be utterly destroyed never to rise again!
The destruction of the great city of Nineveh we are reading
about in Nahum was a type,
a forerunner, of the fulfillment of the fall of Babylon
the great on that "day of vengeance of our God".
To study the Bible is the noblest of all pursuits;
to understand it, the highest of all goals.
We pray that with the guidance of the Holy
Spirit, you accomplish both.
