Pamphlet 1417 Hos kc 5-2
Hosea is told to go again and "love" (not take) a "woman" (not Gomer) who is an adulteress, i.e. from the idolatrous House of Israel. The word "friend" used here means "husband" and "flagons of wine" means "cakes of figs" which are representative of sensuality.The point is that this woman was redeemed and paid for before she became Hosea's wife. Those with eyes to see and ears to hear will refer to Romans chapter 8
Hosea 3:1
Then said the LORD unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine.
Note: Some scholars claim that Gomer must have died which may or may not be true for it isn't written. However, it is immaterial because Gomer's adultery made void her marriage vows anyway.
Fifteen pieces of silver and an homer and a half of barley is the price for redeeming a slave. An homer is about 8 bushels, so an homer and a half would be 12 bushels. Isn't that interesting? The point is that this woman was redeemed and paid for before she became Hosea's wife. Those with eyes to see and ears to hear will refer to Romans chapter 8.[2] So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for an homer of barley, and an half homer of barley:
This "wife" will remain true and faithful and shall "abide" with him, even in sense of "sequestered". In other words, when God's elect are brought into the truth they will thenceforth remain true and faithful and "abide in His Word" but they shall also be sequestered as His "servants in bondage".[3] And I said unto her, Thou shalt abide for me many days; thou shalt not play the harlot, and thou shalt not be for another man: so will I also be for thee.
Paul spoke of this on several occasions as in Col. 4:3 for example: "Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:" (See also Philip. 1:13)
The children of Israel spoken of in this verse are those represented by the "faithful woman" Hosea was to love, i.e. God's elect. All the items listed that they would be "without" while they abided with Him, refer to idolatry! Remember she would not "play the harlot" and not "be for another man". She would not take on a false king of kings, or a false prince of peace, or sacrifice to Baal or his "bow down to his image", or wear a false priests garment (ephod) or place any other gods (idols, i.e. teraphim) before the true God. She would remain His faithful, sequestered "wife" who would serve Him according to His will in these last days.Hosea 3:4
For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim:
"After that", after God's elect have fulfilled their appointed destinies, some of whom will be delivered up to the false messiah to give testimony and witness against him (Mat. 24, Mark 13, Luke 21), then the children of Israel shall return and seek the LORD their God.
Are you among those who fear (revere) the Lord and love Him for His "goodness" to us in these latter days? Are you faithful to Him and do you serve Him according to His will (His Word)?[5] Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David* their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days.
It is written in Matthew chapter 5 that out of the 10 virgins, as in out of the 10 tribes of Israel, only 5 remained faithful and made it to the wedding of the true Bridegroom. The other 5 played the role of the harlot and became the wife of another man, the little "ish", the false king, the false prince of peace.
Be a wise virgin and fill you lamp each day with virgin "oil" from the well of truth, His Holy Word.
To study the Bible is the noblest of all pursuits;
to understand it, the highest of all goals.
We pray that with the guidance of the Holy
Spirit, you accomplish both.
