Many Christians are literally shocked to learn that Jesus Christ was divorced.
The very reason God has
all of us take this trip through earth school as human babies,
completely dependent
upon our parents,
and then mature into
adults and become the mommies and daddies ourselves,
is so that we can experience
and learn about those different relationships.
The
love we as parents have for our children
helps
us understand the love our heavenly Father has for us, His children.
The
same applies to husbands and wives.
"Marriage"
helps us understand the love of Christ,
and
that is why it is so important that we study the Book of Hosea.
You see, Israel (the woman) was married to the Lord at Mount Sinai.
That's
right, Christ entered into a marriage covenant with her
whereby
He became the husband and vowed to provide her with all her needs
as
long as she remained faithful.
But she did not remain faithful!
She soon went astray and
started "cheating on Him" and became an adulteress,
meaning
she became "Idolatrous".
Remember,
we cannot see spiritual things such as idolatry,
as
in a person's idolatrous thoughts,
but
we can see and understand adultery!
So you know what Christ
did with backsliding Israel?
He
divorced the whore!
That's right, He served her with a "Bill of Divorce"!
Jeremiah 3:8 And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.
However, one of the things
He accomplished through His death on the cross
was to free Himself and
the woman to remarry.
Will Christ take her/us back?
Should He?
The
wisdom and understanding necessary to answer these questions
is
contained in Hosea, the Book of Salvation.
To study the Bible is the noblest of all pursuits;
to understand it, the highest of all goals.
We pray that with the guidance of the Holy
Spirit, you accomplish both.
