Jesus
Christ was asked by his disciples
to
tell them what sign to look for
just
prior to His second coming,
Mark 13:4 "Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?",
Mark 13:14 But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains: ..."
Does
it make sense that we need to become familiar
with
the "who, what, when, where and why" of the abomination of desolation?
If
we do not we will most certainly miss the sign
and
find ourselves headed in the wrong direction.
Consider this example: Suppose the year was 1775 and you were looking out your window in Lexington and saw a light in the tower of the Old North Church. It would mean absolutely nothing to you, nor for that matter to any of the majority of those on "main street". Unless of course your name was Paul Revere. Then you would know the significance of the light because you foreknew the script(ure), "One if by land, two if by sea". Because Paul Revere knew the sign when it appeared he was able to ride through the town and warn his people that the enemy was coming.
As
we approach that final hour,
as
we hear the "peace, peace" of 1 Thes. 5,
"peace
plan here, peace plan there",
it
becomes imperative for us all to understand
the
signs Christ gave to us, His disciples.
How
else can we know to sound the alarm?
Therefore
we must study that great prophetic Book of Daniel.
