My Hi-lite:  The vision of the seventy weeks Daniel 9:1  ķIn the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans;
2  In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
Daniel's confession and prayer
3  And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:
4  ķAnd I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;
5  We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:
6  Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.
7  O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee.
8  O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee.
9  To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him;
10  Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets.
11  Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him.
12  And he hath confirmed his words, which he spake against us, and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: for under the whole heaven hath not been done as hath been done upon Jerusalem.
13  As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth.
14  Therefore hath the LORD watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us: for the LORD our God is righteous in all his works which he doeth: for we obeyed not his voice.
15  And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast gotten thee renown, as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly.
16  O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us.
17  Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.
18  O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies.
19  O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.
The seventy weeks of years
20  ķAnd whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God;
21  Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.
22  And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.
23  At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.
24  Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
25  Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
26  And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
27  And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Ephraim was the largest of the 10 tribes, like the USA is today,
and is used here as an adjunct figure of speech to represent the house of Israel.

Our Father sent the angel Gabriel (man of God) to show Daniel what was to befall his people in the latter days when the king of fierce countenance, one who understands "dark" sentences, would come and destroy (spiritually desolate) the mighty and holy people, Daniel's people.

This was a "hard to pill to swallow" for someone who loved his God, his country, and his people, and though it was God's plan as revealed by His angel, the reality of it sickened Daniel's heart.

But after certain days he "rose up" and went about the king's business and was amazed that no one around him had a clue as to what was going on or what was about to happen.

Such is the case in our nation today concerning the magnitude of the coming abomination of desolation who shall stand in the holy place showing himself (to the world) that he is God.

As it is written, when Satan and his angels are cast out of heaven to this earth there shall be a time of trouble (spiritual tribulation) such as never was, no, nor ever shall be.

Then too, the land of Babylon is in the news all around us, but our people are clueless even as to the spiritual desolation still taking place as a result of the desert storm, that hot dry "east wind" of the desert that has been blowing across our nation causing our land (the people of our land) to spiritually look like a valley of dead dry bones (Ezk. 37).

It is time to wake up and "Lift your head on high" and come out of the desert wind that causes spiritual desolation.

Here's what the book titled "salvation" (Hosea) has to say concerning our people:

Hosea 12:1
Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.
Ephraim was the largest of the 10 tribes, like the USA is today, and is used here as an adjunct figure of speech to represent the house of Israel.

Oil is symbolic of richness meaning that the nation increases with prosperity as they make their covenant with the Assyrians, i.e. put their trust and security in the power of the beast system.

However, the increase is only an illusion as our people are enslaved (Egypt) more and more by our unholy debt system economy controlled by the kenites.

Hosea 13:15
Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels.

[16]Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.

Samaria means "watch mountain" and was the "capital hill" of the northern ten tribes, the house of Israel.

To wit, our own capital hill has become wrought with much spiritual desolation.

It is time we return to the Rock our forefathers founded this nation upon.

It is time to return to our God and to His Word of truth and justice!

Hosea 14:1
O Israel, return unto the LORD thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity.

[2] Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips.

[3]Asshur shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses: neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, Ye are our gods: for in thee the fatherless findeth mercy.

Are you wise enough to "see" what is happening to our people as we drift further and further away from His Word?

The wise in this final generation shall understand the visions of the prophets, even the visions that Daniel saw of the "desolator" coming against his people, and they shall teach and walk in the ways of righteousness, which is the Word of God.

Hosea 14:9
Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein.
So after rising up and getting back on his feet and being about the king's business, Daniel started cracking the Book and seeking understanding from the Word of God.

This is in the first year of Darius the Mede who was Cyrus.

Daniel 9:1
In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans;
The word "Darius", which means "maintainer" or "restrainer", is a general title given to a line of kings such as Pharaoh, Czar, Sultan, or Shah.

Not understanding this appellative has caused much confusion in determining the genealogy of the Persian kings by mistaking titles for proper names.

Darius the son of Ahasuerus mentioned here is Cyrus (see appendix 57 in the Companion Bible).

[2] In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
Daniel understood from studying the Word of God what was going to happen to his people concerning the desolations brought about by that king of fierce countenance and he wanted to help his people, his family, and his friends, so he turned to God and asked for His help.

Daniel, a type of God's elect in these last days, was full of the beatitudes (Mat. 5), the beautiful attitudes of love and concern for his family and his nation.

Jeremiah had warned the people repeatedly that the king of Babylon was coming, but just like today they paid no attention.

Of course their eyes were  kept closed by their religious leaders who scoffed at the warning and told their congregations "it is not going to happen", God will protect you.

Does that sound familiar?

Our people are taught today that God will protect them and "rapture them away" when antichrist, the king of Babylon comes, so they don't even need to study the Book of Revelation.

Nevertheless, Daniel understood from Jeremiah 25:11-14 how long the "desolations of Jerusalem" would last, which would be 70 years, from 479 to 409 B.C.

Jeremiah 25:12
And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.

Jeremiah 29:10
For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

Daniel said he understood the "number of years", which means he calculated the years of the "desolations" which had so far lasted 53 years, leaving 17 more to go.

Remember this for future reference in our discussions of times and dates, i.e. that Daniel's understanding came to him in the 53rd year which was the first year of the reign of Cyrus.

Daniel 9:3
And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:
Daniel wanted so much to know and understand and to do what he could for his people who had been drawn away from their Father's Word and were clueless as to what was befalling them.
[4] And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love Him, and to them that keep His commandments;
God always keeps His covenant, His Word, and He blesses those who love Him and keep His commandments.

The fact is, if you love the Lord with all your heart you will keep His commandments.

Jesus Christ said so Himself.

John 14:15
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
If you do not prayerfully study your Father's Word then you show by your actions that you do not love Him, no matter what your lips might sing or say.
[16] And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
What is that "another Comforter"?

It is the Spirit of Truth that brings comfort and sets you free from bondage and the traditions of men, and free from the fear of not knowing what tomorrow brings.

[17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
If you seek Him and study His Word then His Spirit of truth will dwell in your heart and mind!
[18] I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
That's a promise IF you keep His commands, which are the instructions contained in His Holy Word.
[19] Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

[20]At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

[21] He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

Again, God always "keeps His covenant", His promises to His children who love and obey Him and Daniel certainly was one who loved Him.

In fact, we will read in chapter 10 that Daniel is twice called "a man greatly beloved" by God!

We should also point out that Ezekiel (God is my strength) talks about Daniel in his prophecy concerning the time of the end.

You will find that reference in the 14th chapter of Ezekiel where he points out that there is both national judgment and individual judgment and although these last days are a time of both, it is your individual actions that determine your reward or just recompense.

Here we find that Daniel is not concerned about himself, but rather about his people for he knows exactly why the desolator shall come... because of the sins of the people in departing from the laws and precepts of God!

Daniel 9:5
We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:
We have been drawn away by our increased prosperity and thus we have looked to our own hands and have forsaken our God by ignoring His Word.

That is what rebellion is, not listening to the commands and the instructions of our Father... even though many are good faithful church goers.

We as a people find ourselves at this very moment in the midst of the great famine of the end times spoken of by Amos the prophet (Amos 8:11-13) which is not a famine for bread nor a thirst for water but for the hearing of the Word of the LORD.

It has been largely caused by the false prophets, those Christian preachers and ministers and priests who teach our people the traditions of men and promote emotional love rather than disciplining them in the Word of God.

Isaiah 29:13 "Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men."

[6] Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.
Do we as a nation listen to the prophets of God, e.g. Isaiah, Jeremiah, Micah, etc.?

How could we?

We as a nation don't even know what they have said because our preachers don't teach them and we don't take the time to read them for ourselves.

[7] O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee.
"Confusion of faces" means "shame on our faces" as in shame on us as the people of God, one nation under God!

And we should be ashamed of ourselves and many of our leaders who have strayed so far left of righteousness, should be ashamed of themselves!

[8] O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee.
We as a nation no longer keep many of His laws and statutes as we once did.

We have perverted justice and made that which is wrong to be right!

Therefore we have sinned against the Lord our God for sin is the transgression of the law (1 John 3:4).

[9] To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against Him;
Daniel knows that even though we as God's children have rebelled against Him, that He still loves His children, as any loving Father would.

And that of course is why He allows the consequences of our own actions to come upon us that through our chastisement we might come to know that only by listening to Him (obeying His voice) and walking in His ways can we find peace and happiness and blessings.

[10] Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets.
Our preachers and ministers do not teach His Word after the manner of "Thus saith the Lord" and "It is written".

Therefore through the lack of knowledge brought about by the lack of discipline in His Word we (the nation as a whole) have departed from His laws and precepts and have followed after the commandments and traditions of men.

[11] Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him.
The "curse" is poured upon us?

What curse?

As a student and keeper of God's Word, a type of God's elect in these last days, Daniel knew what the law said regarding blessings and cursings (vs. 13).

He knew the books of Moses and would have been quite familiar with Deut. 28 that outlines the blessings and the curses Daniel refers to.

Take the time to read the entire chapter, both the blessings and the cursings, and know that they are conditional based upon whether a person listens to Him (hears His voice, which is His Word), or listens to men and their voices, which are become the traditions of men that make void His word.

Here is how to receive His blessings:

Deut. 28:1
And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:

[2] And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.

Here is how to receive His curses:
Deut. 28:15-20
But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
We are without excuse for He has warned us what would come to pass if we disobey His laws and commands.

You "see", His Word will be confirmed true by your actions either way, either through your rebellion of ignoring His Word and experiencing the suffering of the consequences it brings, or through obedience to His laws and commands and experiencing the blessings it brings.

By the way, these curses take very little updating to see how much they apply to our nation today.

[16] Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field.
[17] Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store.

[18] Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.

[19] Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

[20]The LORD shall send upon thee cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me.

Have you forsaken your Father by not hearing His Voice, i.e. by not studying His set of commands and instructions?

Notice that the question was NOT "Do you go to church every Sunday?", because the two are not related if the church you go to does not teach His Word chapter by chapter and verse by verse to instruct you in His ways.

His people are called by His name which is Christ.
In other words, they are called Christians.

Let's return to Daniel's prayer which he is giving on behalf of his people.

Daniel 9:12
And He hath confirmed His words, which He spake against us, and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: for under the whole heaven hath not been done as hath been done upon Jerusalem.
Again, we are without excuse for He has warned us what would come to pass if we disobeyed His laws and precepts.

He has been gracious to us by giving us "free will", the freedom of choice, which means we are free to chose the path we follow.

Remember that the next time you cast a vote in this nation!

Deut. 30:19
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
He has given each of us a choice and it is up to each of us to make that choice!
Daniel 9:13
As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth.
Do you see the majority of the preachers and ministers today teaching repentance, teaching our people to turn from their own ways and turn to the Word of God for instruction and admonition?

Do they teach an "understanding of thy truth", His word, line by line and chapter by chapter?

Not many do because most are afraid they might offend someone and lose membership which would not be good "business".

You see, many live by the "Golden Rule Formula (GRF)"... which is Members + Attendance = More Gold.

[14] Therefore hath the LORD watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us: for the LORD our God is righteous in all his works which he doeth: for we obeyed not his voice.
To watch upon the evil simply means He allows the curses to come upon them as per Deut. 28 because He warned them and yet they "obeyed not HIS voice".
[15] And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast gotten thee renown, as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly.
Isn't is amazing that after all of the miracles God did in the sight of our forefathers, that His wondrous works are so quickly forgotten and our people return to their own way, a way "that seemeth right in their own eyes".

The only one problem with our own way is that in the final end, it will cause eternal death!

Proverbs 16:25
There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Daniel now continues his prayer, asking God to turn away His anger and His fury upon his people.

The rest of the prayer is solemn and requires little comment:

Daniel 9:16
O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us.
In other Words, through our sinfulness and iniquities we who call ourselves God's children bring shame upon our Father.
[17] Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.

[18] O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies.

[19] O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.

His people are called by His name which is Christ.

In other words, they are called Christians.

What a beautiful prayer and what a beautiful person this Daniel was.

The love he had for his Father and the compassion he had for his nation and family is truly exemplary.

In our next study, Gabriel the man of God, one of the archangels, will come to Daniel to give him skill and understanding.

So let's be wise and go listen in.

The false messiah is going to come sweep most Christians
right off their feet and spiritually seduce them
with his lies and deceits and cause them to fall before him and worship him...
thus taking away the daily sacrifice.

In the third and last year of the reign of king Belshazzar, Daniel saw a vision concerning the king of fierce countenance who would come with awesome power and "destroy the mighty and holy people", his people, the true house of Israel.

That understanding disturbed him greatly so he began plowing in his Father's Word and learned in the great Book of Jeremiah that the period of time concerning the desolations of Jerusalem was to be seventy years, an additional seventeen years from the time he came to that understanding.

Therefore because he so loved his nation and his people, he set his face unto the LORD God to offer prayers and give supplication before Him because of the sins of his people.

And while he was yet speaking and praying he was paid a visit by one of the four archangels who stand before the Lord, even Gabriel whose name means "man of God".

When those angels swing into action at the time of end, even that time when the archangel Michael stands up and casts Satan and his angels out of heaven (Rev. 12:7-9), then "there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time... (Dan. 12:1)."

Daniel 9:20
And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God;
[21] Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.
The archangel Gabriel who appeared just before the first advent also appears before the second advent and blows (heralds) the 7th Trump at Christ's return.

Notice that Daniel was not even finished with his prayer when this man of God came to him and touched him towards the "end of the day", about the time of the evening oblation.

[22] And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.
Our Father hears the prayers of those who love and serve Him by seeking after His knowledge and wisdom for the purpose of helping others.
[23]At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.
At the instant Daniel began his prayer (back in verse 4) God heard him and gave the commandment to Gabriel to go forth and give him skill and understanding.

Gabriel let Daniel know that he was greatly beloved by our Father and you can imagine how that must have made Daniel feel.

Gabriel then instructed Daniel to consider (think about) and understand the vision.

Remember that Daniel, this beloved one of God, already knows about the 70 years of captivity.

Now he's going to be given information concerning another time frame or period of 70, however, the length of this period of time will be "Seventy Sevens" or 70 weeks of years, years being the subject of Daniel's prayer.

[24] Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
The seventy weeks are determined on the people and on the holy city of Jerusalem.

That is why you want to always keep your eyes upon the holy city, for it is the focal point of endtime prophecy.

Let's segment this verse and consider what happens at the end of 70 weeks, knowing that 69 weeks have passed.

That which has been determined by our Father at His appointed time is...

to finish the transgression, and...
This happens when Jesus Christ returns at the sound of the 7th Trump and puts a stop to the transgression of desolation.
to make an end of sins, and...
This hasn't happen yet either, has it?
to make reconciliation for iniquity, and...
This is the "day of vengeance" spoken of by Isaiah in the second half of Isa. 61:2.

This occurs when Christ returns to the Valley of Jehoshaphat (Yahveh Judges) as per Joel chapter 3.

to bring in everlasting righteousness, and...
This happens when the King of righteous comes and sets up His kingdom that shall never be destroyed.
to seal up  the vision and prophecy, and...
To "seal up the vision and prophecy" is to make an end of, to fulfill all the prophecies that Jesus Christ foretold us of in Mat. 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21.

The fulfilling happens in and unto the final generation of the fig tree!

Matthew 24:34 "Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled."

to anoint the most Holy.
The phrase "the most Holy" is never used of a person but rather of the "holy of holies".

So to "anoint the holy of Holies" simply means to cleanse the sanctuary.

The seventy weeks continues until the end when the sanctuary is cleansed.

You may recall that the cleansing also takes place at the end of the 2300 days.

Nevertheless, it is obvious that these events have not yet happened and so are yet future.

Has God not put an end to the transgression of desolation!

Sin has not been done away with!

And the visions and the prophecies have not all been fulfilled.

How long then is "Seventy Sevens"?

70 x 7 = 490 years, which is the total length of time of this prophecy.

Keep that in mind as we read the next verse.

[25] Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
The decree, issued by king Cyrus, to restore and rebuild Jerusalem went forth in 454 B.C., the twentieth year of Artaxerxes.

So we have 7 weeks, which is 7 x 7 or 49 years (from 454 B.C. to 405 B.C.) plus 62 weeks, which is 62 x 7 or 434 years (from 405 B.C. to 29 A.D., the crucifixion).

That gives us a total of 69 weeks, which is 69 x 7 or 483 years.

However, since the "total time" of this prophecy is 490 years, we are short one week.

That's right!

There is yet one week yet to be fulfilled go before all the events in verse 24 are "sealed up".

Note: Most chronologies are off a period of 110 years due to the errant calculations of the years of reign of the kings.

For example we read "in the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar" back in chapter 8 verse 1 by which it is assumed he reigned 3 years, but in fact he reigned for just over 2 years.

If you have access to a Companion Bible, appendixes 50 and 90 will give you the corrected chronologies.

Let's continue. (Isn't this fascinating?)

Now notice that the events in the next verse happen AFTER the 483 years, which is AFTER the crucifixion.

They happen at the time of the end during Daniel's 70th week!

[26] And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
There is a definite article in the manuscripts marking the "after threescore and two weeks" as the period of time just mentioned in verse 25, i.e. after the 483 years.

Christ was "cut off", crucified, and that was He Himself who died on the cross.

But there comes a time when He is cut off "but not for Himself", i.e. the daily sacrifice shall be cut off from the hearts and the minds of the people.

Christ was crucified and rejected and He did not usher in the kingdom for which He came but rather the kingdom became in abeyance for a period (John 1:11).

So we have a gap from the 69th week until the 70th week when Messiah is cut off.

That will be during the last week of this flesh age during the latter part of which the desolator will come and do his thing, which is to destroy wonderfully (with wonders) and destroy with peace the souls of men and women, spiritually speaking, and cause the daily sacrifice to be taken away, i.e. the Messiah to be cut off from the people.

Also, the people of the prince (little "p"), are the people of the "little horn" who help spread his abominations.

The end thereof, or "his own end come", is the end of the desolator which again looks to the end of the last seven years when there shall be "a flood".

However, the flood will not be of water but rather a flood of lies and deceit which brings about the great apostasy, the great falling away, the great seduction of those who do not have the seal of God in their foreheads.

We read in Revelation, an overview of the Book of Daniel, about this flood of lies and deception which spews forth from the mouth of the dragon, that old serpent, the little horn, the king of fierce countenance, etc. He comes after the "woman" who is symbolic of God's people, Christians who are to wait for Him and be His virgin bride when He returns.

Rev. 12:15-16
And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
The false messiah is going to come sweep most Christians right off their feet and spiritually seduce them with his lies and deceits and cause them to fall before him and worship him... thus taking away the daily sacrifice.

"But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days (Mark 13:24)."

You "see", the first woman taken in the field in Matthew 24:39-40 is "taken" in this flood and seduced.

"And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

[40] Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left."

It is those who remain behind and endure unto the end of the desolation that shall be saved.

Here is your documentation from the voice of Jesus Christ.

You can either hear and believe what He has to say or believe men's books and movies.

Matthew 24:13
But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
endure, hupomeno, hoop-om-en'-o, Greek 5278; from Greek 5259 (hupo) and Greek 3306 (meno); to stay under (behind), i.e. remain; figurative to undergo, i.e. bear (trials), have fortitude, persevere :- abide, endure, (take) patient (-ly), suffer, tarry behind.
Here then is what the angel Gabriel says that the desolator, who is the little horn, the king of fierce countenance, the instead-of-Jesus, the "he" in the next verse, will do during that last week, the 70th week of Daniel which completes the 490 years.
Daniel 9:27
And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
This is for the time of the end when the "action" continues in connection with Daniel's people and city, i.e. the true house of Israel and the city of Jerusalem, which is again is why Jerusalem is the focal point for us to "watch" concerning Bible prophecy in these last days.

This 27th verse of Daniel chapter 9 is the verse Jesus Christ referred to in Matthew 24 and Mark 13 when He said that the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the prophet would come stand in the holy place... and as Paul declares in 2 Thes. 2, show himself (to the world) that he is God.

This abomination continues "even until the consummation, and determined shall be poured upon the desolate" which means until the very end when God pours out His wrath and puts an end to the transgression.

In summary then, we learned that the little horn shall come in the last days and "confirm the covenant with many" for that 70th week, which is to bring forth the first beast of Revelation 13 to be worshipped, and strengthen that confederacy of many peoples and nations and tongues, i.e. the New World Order.

confirm, gabar, gaw-bar', Hebrew 1396; a primitive root; to be strong; by implication to prevail, act insolently :- exceed, confirm, be great, be mighty, prevail, put to more [strength], strengthen, be stronger, be valiant.

covenant, beriyth, ber-eeth', Hebrew 1285; from Hebrew 1262 (barah) (in the sense of cutting [like Hebrew 1254 (bara')]); a compact (because made by passing between pieces of flesh) :- confederacy, [con-]feder[-ate], covenant, league.

Then in the midst of the last and 70th week, the second beast of Revelation 13:11, the desolator, appears defacto with the two horns of a lamb, which means he appears as the Lamb of God, the two horns (symbolic of power) being that of King of kings and Lord of lords.

He comes and stands in the holy place and causes the daily sacrifice to cease.

How?

By claiming that he is God!

By showing great signs and wonders and deceiving people through his flood of lies into worshipping him as the true Christ.

Remember, Jesus Christ is our daily sacrifice, the one with whom we commune, but if you as a Christian allow Satan to deceive you into worshipping him, then the daily sacrifice for you has been taken away.

It is that simple!

Remember it is written that this shall be a time of trouble such as never was since the world began, no, nor ever shall be.

It is the time when the supernatural comes to this earth and mingles with flesh man.

The good news is though, that Jesus Christ shortened the duration of time when the abomination of desolation stands defacto in the holy place.

Let's go to the Sermon on the Mount where He explains the 7 seals and 7 trumps, which are the events that occur in the generation just prior to His return, and document that He has shortened the time.

Mark 13:14-23
But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:
The pronoun "it" should properly be translated "he" for we already know from Daniel that the abomination of desolation being spoken of is an entity, the little horn, the king of fierce countenance, the desolator.

Note: Dr. Moffat has "where it ought not" translated correctly "where he ought not".

Jesus Christ has told us that when we see this abominable one come stand in the holy place, then get out of Dodge because there is nothing whatsoever there for you as a child and a servant of the living God.

[15] And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house:
When the watchmen on the housetop see the appearance of Antichrist, the little horn, standing in the holy place, they shall know that the time has come for the desolations to take place.

So make sure you stay away from that place and have nothing whatsoever to do with what is going on there.

There certainly is nothing in his house that you are going to need.

He and his lords are going to have a big spiritual wedding feast in his house and gather as many wives and concubines unto him as he can.

[16] And let him that is in the field not turn back again for to take up his garment.
You won't need a change of clothing.

You keep the wedding garment on that you already have, which is the same as the gospel armor Paul speaks of in Ephesians chapter six.

[17] But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
Jesus Christ is teaching us here on a spiritual level.

Throughout God's Word adultery and harlotry are used to symbolize spiritual fornication and spiritual seduction... which is idolatry.

The apostle Paul also drew the analogy between the physical seduction of mother Eve who lost her virginity to that low life serpent (Satan) in the garden of Eden, and the spiritual seduction of virgins (Christians) in these last days who are to remain chaste and wait patiently until the true bridegroom comes!

2 Cor. 11:2-3
For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

[3] But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

So in Mark 13:17 Christ is not talking about those who are pregnant in the natural (physical) sense.

He is talking about those who do not remain spiritual virgins but are rather impregnated with the lies and deceit of "antichrist", a word which means "instead of Jesus" in Greek!

You "see", when Jesus Christ returns to take up His virgin bride and discovers that she is already pregnant or nursing a baby of her own, that is where the WOE comes in because He will not be too happy with her!

Would you?

Therefore do not be the first woman "taken" in the field... because she is taken and seduced and loses her virginity to the old serpent who comes before the true bridegroom.

Mark 13:18
And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter.
The word "winter" can mean both a "storm or tempest" or the "winter season".

Either way, make sure that you are not caught up in the storm, Satan's powerful spiritual tempest, and taken in by his lies and deception, which is another way of saying make sure you are not harvested out of season.

[19] For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.
Though it will be a time of peace and prosperity, it shall be a time of (spiritual) trouble such as never was since there was a nation, no, nor ever shall be.

Remember what we read in Dan. 8:25 concerning the desolation that many shall be destroyed by PEACE.

In other words, they will believe that Jesus Christ has returned and will turn to the desolator, the spurious messiah, and worship him.

[20] And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.
The flood of lies and deception will be so awesome, that unless the Lord allowed time beforehand for God's elect to teach His Word and warn people of the coming desolation by the false messiah and his angels at the sound of the 6th Trump, there would be no one (flesh) able to endure the spiritual onslaught to the end of the 70th week!

Matthew 24:13 "But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved."

This shortening of the defacto reign of antichrist coincides with the extended time allotted for the sealing of the servants of God in Rev. 7:3 "Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads."

You "see", only those with the seal of God in their foreheads, which is to have knowledge and wisdom from His Word locked in their minds, shall not be harmed by Satan, the desolator, and his locust army.

Rev. 9:4 "And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads."

By the way, we find in this same 9th chapter that the time of the locust army is a period of "five months" giving us the length of time Christ shortened the days to: Rev. 9:5 "And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man."

[21] And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, He is there; believe Him not:
If someone tells you, i.e. if you hear, that Jesus Christ has returned and is standing in Jerusalem, don't you believe it!

Contrary to the any-moment rapture theory being espoused by most churches, Jesus Christ has warned us that the false messiah is coming FIRST to take the woman in the field, to spiritually seduce all those who do not have the seal of God in their foreheads.

[22] For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
"False Christs" is singular in the Greek (#5580, pseudochristos), and means "a spurious Messiah :- false Christ".

In other words, Jesus Christ has just told us the false messiah, who is the little horn, the king of fierce countenance, the abominable desolator, is coming with his angels to deceive and seduce the whole world, including the woman (church)!

In fact, he and his angels will be that good and convincing that if it were possible, which in the Greek means that it is not possible, he could deceive even the elect.

[23] But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.
It's all written in His Word.

All we have to do is read it with understanding and believe what He says regardless of what the traditions of men might teach!

Jesus added a little something extra in Matthew's account concerning hearing the claim that Christ has returned.

Matthew 24:26
Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, He is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
Go not forth!

Don't you go down to his house!

You get away and stay away from the place of abomination.

(Remember, the world will believe Jesus Christ has returned and now God is with us.)

Jesus then adds this real simple statement to let you know that if you "hear" someone say Christ has returned, pay no attention to it because He hasn't.

There will be no doubt whatsoever when Jesus Christ returns for this is how it shall be:Matthew 24:27-28 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

When the true Christ returns, all you will see is a brilliant flash of light, just like lightning from one end of the sky to the other, and you will be instantly changed into your spiritual body!

It is written and so shall it be!

"In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed (1 Cor. 15:52)".

Even the (spiritually) dead shall be raised to their incorruptible (spiritual) bodies.

In other words, the flesh age is over at the sound of the 7th Trump and as it is written, the brightness of His coming shall be so intense that even the sun will be darkened (paled into insignificance) and the stars and moon shall not give their light.

[28] For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
The vultures, i.e. Satan's angelic host, are going to gather as many "carcases" to the holy place, the gathering place, as they can.

Those "carcases" are spiritually dead Christians who do not have God's Word sealed in their minds.

See that you remain steadfast are not "taken up" and "seduced" by these unclean birds.

Jesus Christ just told us in Mark 13:22 that they are coming to seduce people and wed them to the false messiah who they will tell you is standing in the holy place.

What a time to live!

This is the most exciting time in the history of mankind to be alive because we are privileged to see all the events Christ foretold us of come to pass in our generation, the generation of the fig tree, the generation of the Baby Boomers.

Mark 13:30 "Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done."

In our next study, Daniel is going to see a "war" take place on the Tigris River at this very same time of the year!

Wow!

It really is happening in our generation!

To study the Bible is the noblest of all pursuits; to understand it, the highest of all goals.
We pray that with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, you accomplish both.
