Pamphlet 1539 John kc 57-1

On a deeper level there must be something else Jesus wants us to see.

John 19:25
Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
The only one of the disciples present at this time was John, the disciple whom Jesus loved.

The others had all deserted Him at this, His final hour.

John's mother, Salome, was also present (Mat. 27:56) with the other Mary's, though John does not mention her.

[26] When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
As we learned in John 2:4 (see note on 2:4), the address of Jesus to His mother as "Woman" is actually one of high regard and proper respect, as you would expect from Christ.

And yes, with her husband Joseph gone and now her Son dying on the cross, she would be alone.

But the Lord makes provision for her to be taken care of and comforted when He is gone.

Now you would think that since Jesus knew He was going to be crucified that He would have made this kind of preparation well ahead of time, so there must be something else He wants us to see.

On a deeper level then, for those with eyes to see and ears to hear, you can't help but also hear Him saying to the "Woman who brought forth the man child", "Woman [mother Israel], Behold your Son".

[27] Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.
Jesus now hands over, i.e. gives charge to John, the disciple whom Jesus loved, to take care His mother.

If you wish to see the care of the church [woman] now given into in the hands of the disciples, then see it, for so shall it be.

To study the Bible is the noblest of all pursuits; to understand it, the highest of all goals.
We pray that with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, you accomplish both.
